Man, I can’t stand you sometimes Jason, you don’t know me, but you can put words to my life when I’m living it and I can’t. Sometimes I just want to scream your lyrics from the top of my lungs, but I’d just be stealing them from you. Maybe part of life is realizing your unique and special existence is not so unique or special after all, but the special part is when you find you’re not alone. Castles made of sand.....beautiful but fragile. Damn you
Sometimes music fans get lucky enough to witness a highly talented artist performing at the absolute top of his game. Friends, this is one of those times. Savor it. (Repeat watchings highly recommended.)
Damn Isbell, here he is again, just makin it hard to keep up. He really is one of the best singer songwriters ever to walk the planet. Plus, he plays guitar better than any other singer/songwriter I've ever heard.
Darrell Scott is damn good. Maybe check out river take me, the acoustic version. I'm a huge isbell fan though! His writing is the best out there without question.
@@jacobfarewell2904 Good call Jake. "Long Time Gone" is in my set lest. Huge fan of Darrell, I think his duet record with Tim O'Brien is one of the most under-appreciated country records of all time.
I gotta say, as someone who's been through a bad divorce and had to pick up the pieces, the line "if there's two things that I hate, it's having to cook, and trying to date" hits home.
Just discovered this today, what a fantastic songwriter, how does he paraphrase my relationship so well, “you won’t sleep til dawn if it don’t rain... sounds so funny when you say my name...” he speaks so clearly about living with and amid addiction. Amazing song.
Just saw him in Memphis with John Prine: the past, present, and future of great American song-writing in one show. Extraordinary music laid down by extraordinary musicians and song-writers.
This song blew me away on Tuesday in San Antonio. I am a little behind on great music. What a concert. Not sure there are many his kind left. Thanks Jason.
wow... First time I ever heard this fella and his band and I'm blown away. His depth is shocking. If this is really live, it's deserving of much more than 1 million views. Awesome
have you ever heard that sound?? the sound that a woman makes, about five seconds after her heart begins to break?? its a sound most of us women carry around deep down inside every day of our lives.
No sweet heart. I have heard it. When a child is lost, then you find out they told you the wrong child’s name. That’s the real sound. That’s absolute pain. Most humans, will never know that pain. Were all lucky for it.
I can remember the exact sound that those girls made right before I broke their heart. Even though it didn't work out, I think about them all the time, and feel absolutely wrecked for doing that to them. Breaking a heart will break your heart.
Got an aching in my belly, got a craving in my head. I feel like im dying and i wish i was dead. If i live till tomorrow it'll be a long time, and i'll rise and i'll fall and i'll die on codeine.
Wow! Somebody else has heard buffy sainte maries codine. Thats the song I thought this was gonna be. I got that on a double album of hers when it came out. Still have it. And its real, and its real one more time! If I live til tomorrow that'll be a long time...(wowie zowie)
Discovered these cats through a Jason Isbell cover called Try, performed with I belive the 400 Unit and by Hannah Aldridge singing on her Razor Wire album release earlier this year. Epic. I have enjoyed learning Isbell and Hannah Aldrige (check her our for certain) more than any other artists in the past decade.
hell yeah! Wakarusa is going to be fantastic, so many good alt-country and bluegrass bands. Looking forward to Jason Isbell and Blitzen Trapper especially

The crawler asks the sitter if he has a cold Schlitz and the guy says no but here’s this water. Blacks out and then returns to crawler leaving the shack, on all fours still, and sitter shaking his head, as crawler has clearly not taken a drink of water but is apparently a purist who’ll settle for nothing less than that cold malt liquor...hilarious 🤣

Jason Isbell is the best songwriter of the past 20 years
& Conner Obsert
He ain't pretty, no cowboy hat or tight jeans just a pitch perfect rendering of the best damn songs being written today - luv this guy!
Kevin Clothier yes!!!! ❤️ but sexy in his own way too!!!
He’s beautiful though exactly where it matters.
Huge fan of Jason's music. I don't think you can write music like this without going where he's gone. I'm glad he is healthy now.
Yea brother you most definitely can not and so glad he made it thru those trials and glad hes getting some of the praise , peace be with everyone!!!
😁😍😁
It's a song from personal experiences,that's why it's soo deep💯💯💯
No need to perpetuate the fallacy that you have to abuse yourself (and in the process, those around you) to make meaningful art.

Thankfully he's sober now, but this was written & performed when he was REALLY familiar with addiction.
"Wish we knew how to fight but we dont" is so raw and true
Just saw him in Memphis with John Prine: the past, present, and future of great American song-writing in one show. Extraordinary music laid down by extraordinary musicians and song-writers.
+Sidney Burris I saw them the night before in Huntsville, AL. What a fantastic show.
Great
Wow!!! If only ❤️❤️❤️
Dang I don’t know how I missed this one but I’m grateful I found it now. I can’t stop listening to it. It’s beautiful and tragic and perfect.
this song makes me want to dance and cry in the same moment.
That four part harmony gets me every time. So much talent.
when Derry brings out the squeeze box in concert, you know this song is coming!
Love this song so much, and have to say those solos and licks towards the end are so so tasty. They move my soul!
This guy can write a freaking song, can he not? Nobody better at this time.
I love this man's voice so much.
Lovin Jason's & his lovely wife's music. They got me through a rough day today and now I'm hooked.
Mr. G me toooooo!!!! ❤️

@@jenniferbeavers8680 2 years later and I'm intrigued to know if you're feeling better? (After these horrid 2 years I might add!)

This an incredible video. Maybe my favourite favourite.

Jason you make Alabama proud. Great song!!!
God, what a clean guitar player he is.
Such an absurdly good song in every way.
Sounds like a dude talking at a local bar in my neighborhood. I love it.
Jason Isbell taking me in and giving me cold chills

One of the best sad songs I’ve ever heard
when this started...."Heading down south to the land of the pines
I'm thumbing my way into North Caroline"
Yeah...old crow medicine show! Great band. Good song. Bit of it written by dylan himself. Thks. Gonna look up some old crow
I was gonna go with "If I had a million dollars (if I had a million dollars)"
so glad to know him and be from the area as songwriter too. Love ol' isbell and jimbo

Have to say i have 5% power and this is what I am falling asleep to
Beautiful.
A one time member of the Athens Georgia music scene back in '01 while working with the Drive By Truckers. Look them up if you heard that stuff.
Yep. Great band. Also played with JTE a few times too, the Letterman performance of "look the other way" comes to mind. Just a great performer.
That's some mighty fine bass playing.
The best out there!!!
