John Miles is the most underrated artist in the history of music. With his songwriting abilities, He deserves to be treated and well known equally with the members of Beatles, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Genesis and Alan Parsons Project.
I saw him live 3 times in the late 70s..twice in Liverpool and once in the Hamilton club in Birkenhead.. brilliant every time..love sticking the headphones on my phone to nice man jack when his footsteps go from ear to ear.. brilliant..as are all his songs..👏
Stuart Hogarth haha the Hamilton club yeah I went this gig also, I’d just park the car up round the corner when his brother pulled up and asked me we’re the club was. Seen him twice at the empire, john cougar melloncap + Bandit were the support bands and once in Southport theatre GREAT DAYS
One of my best mates was a huge fan of John Miles when we were in our early teens. I was into hardrock and initially put off by the gentler songs in his repertoire as I thought they were "wussy" - my loss; what an excellent songwriter and allround musician he is. Songs like this one and "Overture" opened my eyes to John Miles, and I eventually enjoyed the "wussy" stuff every bit as much as my friend did. I think bass guitarist Bob Marshall wrote many of the lyrics to his songs, including one of my personal favourites "Fella in the Cellar".
This is such a fantastic work (much more than just a 'song'...). Had the privilege of seeing him perform it live in the '70s (Sheffield University Union and the fabulous de Montfort Hall in Leicester) complete with pyrotechnics etc : such a magnificent experience : does anyone have a video of this ?
Hi Steve, Saw him a fee times around the Zaragon and MMPH album era. Still a superb musician tho seems to do cameos on the Euro Night of the Proms tours. I have a live DVD of him doing his 93 Upfront album, which is class btw. It's just called John Miles In Concert and is on the German Ohne Filter label.
Brilliant song from a brilliant artist. I never understood why he wasn't a superstar in the United States. John Marshall, are you in any relation to Bob Marshall, the cowriter and bass player of most of Miles' hits?
I wonder why he vanished 4 songs on spotify and the same on googol play music. Discrimination maybe he has spoken out on some issues frowned upon. I dont know or maybe fudgepack or halfdime needed some space.
