I was brought up in Nova Scotia and remember trips to Vermont and NH and Maine as a child and in my memory many or most of the towns were built on rivers with big mills. In Southern Alberta we had a huge flood 10 years ago (a 100 year event), where spring rains came early and melted the Rocky Mtn snowpack and people learned the hard way how many downtowns were built on the flood plain. There are so many natural disasters happening all over but nice to see a story of resilience and rebuilding.....❤
Thank you for the details regarding Montpelier's flood. Mary Margaret's description of the event should be heard by everyone who could possibly be affected by a flash flood. There is so much bad stuff in flood water most people (like me) would never imagine that the damage goes beyond the water itself. It is good to know she is taking one day at a time and making progress to get past Mother Nature's tangled mess. Sending safe hugs from Michigan - hoping for a road trip next year! 🧶
Thanks for sharing this story. After the flood I sent a link to all my knitting friends for where you can purchase shop gift cards. I look forward to using mine at the new location. Hang in there, Mary Margaret!
Sobbing from the very start! It’s such a beautiful area!! Peg and Amanda, Thank you so much for taking the time and doing the Mill Cast from Montpelier!❤
Thank you for sharing this information. We see it in the news and then it's out of the news cycle as if it's all over and it's far from that. Eye opening stuff.
Thanks for sharing the story, I’ve never been to Montpellier before but am adding to our bucket list! Good luck Mary Margaret with the new shop opening!! 😊
Oh my goodness, what a touching interview and what an absolutely heartbreaking and incredible story! Thank you Peggy for asking so many deep questions and thank you Mary Margaret for taking the time and patience to answer. All the various details! Who would have ever thought about shelving floating! It makes perfect sense, but to predict that sort of thing? I would have never thought of it! I'm so sorry for all you have been through and at the same time looking forward to visiting your new space. xo
Mary Margaret my friend and I will be there as soon as you open. We always head out looking for new shops that we’ve never been to. We’ve never been to VT yet so you and Junction Mills are our main shop to hop on into. We’re from MA, I’m from the Boston area and she is from Springfield, MA. Blessing for a smooth transition. 💕. Iris
Heartbreaking. The world is so topsy-turvy with the weather. Lismore, NSW was devastated 18 months ago with floods. Always triple the expected flood height. People rebuilt from the repetitive floods a few years ago in Lismore. Building 7 metres above the last, to no avail. I hope I am wrong. But Im afraid Australia may be in for some terrible bush fires. Lots of rain and bush growth. The Greenies wont allow state forest cool burn offs which our indigenous people did.
Best wishes to Mary Margaret and her business.
Such amazing podcast! Thank you for introducing us to Mary Margaret and her undying spirit. I wish her and her community nothing but the best.
Thank you for sharing Mary Margaret's story. I am looking forward to visiting her shop and down town Montpelier this fall.
