It's funny that she talks about unconscious bias while displaying overt and direct bias. The hypocrisy is so thick you could touch it. Her lack of self awareness is staggering.
Yes, had he made fun of her voice, all hell would have been made. Had I been him I would have brought it to her attention how that could have been considered derogatory but yet, as always those kinds always think they are right but the first to complain about racism
I think you're taking her words out of context. She was not giving a blanket statement that all bias is wrong; she was specifically talking about unconscious bias as it pertains to race. Particularly, she was saying that white people tend to have an unconscious bias towards other white people (and against black people). I, like you, also do not think what she said is true, but I have a problem with your mischaracterization of her argument. You need to learn what she is saying before you throw around words like "hypocrisy". (Please understand that I am not trying to belittle you in any way; I am only saying this to help you not to make a mistake like this again.)

Or would you then say they are because he’s Jewish ? I think the term would be bias he’s a very intelligent man and people who aren’t as smart or disagree with him will be filled with some sort of anger or feeling that goes for anyone who can’t control those feelings and questions in a social or any setting

I also think it’s very troubling that she pretty much implied racial or indeed any unconscious biases are unique to white people. That’s the root cause of the flaw in her argument. Unconscious biases are present in all of us. So it’s really a non- starter to pose it as a white people doing it to black people thing. 🤦🏾♀️
You just beautifully articulated that exact racism that has so much purchasing power in the US that millions of "white" people have to deal with constantly. Thank you.
From my life experiences, which I'm sure is very common to any non-black American, is that White people are not the biggest group of racist per racial group in America. Far from it in fact.
Indeed. Any negative comment about a group of people based on their skin color is racist, so she's proving she's (currently) racist against white people.

Brilliantly put! This is what I feel is really going on. Just like the white fragility lady Diangelo, people who are racist will point out the racism in others so they do not feel so bad about their own issues. One of those "i'm not racist, but you are for agreeing with me" kind of things.

This way they bring race, sex, whatever else empty as their life arguments to obtain a privilege to be payed for nothing.

I do the same thing she does. Where did she get her view that others have unconscious bias? Her group told her, or a Professor she admires, or some book/study/television program she enjoyed. The point is, she accepts it for different reasons and doesn't do the research necessary to make sure it's factual. Who has the time? I'm guilty of the same thing she is, I've picked up nuggets of information along the way that made sense so I filed them under "truth" without making sure they really were the truth. And if someone confronts my view with the actual truth it better be a boatload of examples because it's really hard to change someones mind. It's just the way people are.

Unconscious bias does exist and can be measured but not in static terms only in dynamic situations which is what he is probably referring to as being difficult to measure. To say it doesn't exist as a psychological phenomenon is stretching the boundaries of truth but to say it doesn't exist in the way it is being promulgated by overly leftist societies is most likely very much in line with the truth. Ironically all this has very little to do with race, colour or appearance, the human subconscious can get over these things very quickly. They are a means of identification but without preconceived notions on how to interpret them place no barrier on how much of a connection you can have with a person. Instead it has much more to do with the lack of interaction during childhood due to the societal boundaries, perceptions and the fears handed down by parents. Some cultures are progressing faster than others but one trend is clear in all cases, that the only real change occurs with changing generations. Hence must be careful to not screw up our children any more than we already are. Anything that promotes lack of interaction between children due to hatred or pride must be eliminated even if this goes against political correctness.
Thoughts that cross your mind are extremely rare to be acted upon. Every person that has walked the planet has had thousands of " bad" thoughts in their life. Luckily as Ben says we judge people on their actions and not their thoughts.
Exactly. Every person on earth has thoughts that, if they acted on them, would land them in prison for the rest of their lives, yet 99.9% never act on those thoughts.

They know racism doesn’t exist on a large scale so they created the term because people immediately know if they are consciously racist. And most people aren’t so everybody will immediately deny it. So they are trying to trick people that they are unconsciously racist because if you are unconscious you can’t prove it. It’s just a way for them to migrate the fact racism doesn’t exist on any large scale and they know people believe everything they are told so they know some people will believe it. I’m a trauma surgeon so I just happen to know a thing or two about being people being unconscious. I’ve cut on hundreds of people and they have no memory of it. Normally you would say subconsciously but you can think back and see if you were subconsciously racist. Unconscious you can’t prove at all.

Thought police are a very bad idea. One of the things that makes humans better over time is the ability to recognize the thoughts in their heads and determine if they are going to act on them or reject them. Unconscious bias sets a dangerous precedent. Can you see the court case? Lawyer: "The defendent murdered the victim due to unconscious bias." That would never fly. The conscious mind overrides the unconscious mind all the time.
And that's exactly what all this "unconscious bias" BS is all about - an attempt by the thought police to find another back door to sneak into your life since all the ones they've been trying since the early 90's didn't work. No intelligent person is falling for their fallacy of false assumption BS.
@Krimsen King Apologies for my delay in responding to you. I have been researching the current widespread and ongoing human rights violations in China and determining how best to bring them to light so the victims will be helped. That said, I am unclear on your position/questions. Is it your position that this particular video was a discussion of unconscious bias on the part of police that results in violence towards people of color? I believe unconscious bias may have been brought up in court before, though I have no evidence of such. I can see how it could be brought up as a means of painting a character portrait of a person, but I don't think it would ever fly, even in that usage. To paraphrase Ben Shapiro, people cannot read minds. That being true, we cannot base anything factual on what may or may not happen in a person's unconscious or conscious thought process. To restate my position, conscious thought continually overrides unconscious thought. An idea MAY potentially begin in an unconscious fashion, but once it reaches the conscious mind, it is evaluated by the thinker and decisions of action or inaction are made about it. As an example, a person may reach for a certain cereal box in the morning out of habit, what some might refer to as unconscious bias, then realize that it's Saturday and they have time to make pancakes and eggs, which they would rather eat. What began as an "unconscious bias," if you will, is reevaluated and discarded in favor of something that is chosen by the conscious mind. I do not wish to make assumptions about your position, as that won't help any of us understand each other better. If I have misunderstood your point, please correct me and elaborate on your perspective.
He hit that one out of the park. Ben's super power is that he can cut through the BS, rephrase the question in a way that make sense, and then deal with it. Just awesome. Don't ever stop!

If you're manic depressive like me you can extend that by 1000° expansively. Now there's a real treat trying to process 657.30 frames per parsec as they flash through your mind. Having fUN N O W ! !
Subconscious bias is a much better term and one that really exists and can be measured in dynamic situations. Classic example is when a store clerk greets people differently based on their ethnicity. Caucasian: gets the full smile. Asian looking: partial smile. African features: stone face. African features and wearing a hoodie: nervous grin. Any intelligent person living in any major city has witnessed this regardless whether they choose to acknowledge it or not. The unfortunate thing is you cannot change subconscious bias in adults. For example if as a child your parents would punish you for playing with a classmate of a certain race then you will grow up to have a subconscious bias towards that specific race. This has very little to do with differences in appearance. For example some parts of France even today are well known to treat the caucasian German tourists very differently than everyone else (although you wouldn't say they was much physical difference between them). A second unfortunate fact is that it is near impossible to change in adulthood. The best you could hope for is to not pass it down to your own children.
@@chrisdeep8417 You are equating thoughts with behavior. Did you watch this video? Ben explained it, but he talks too fast. I can take a stab at it- For example, I am an LSU alumn and yuge football fan. Would I hire a black Auburn fan over a white Alabama fan? My knee-jerk answer is ABSOLUTELY- not because the Auburn fan and I share common ground, but because I have a VERY MUCH CONSCIOUS bias (a thought) against Alabama. However, in the end, I would review the resumes carefully, then hire the more qualified candidate (a behavior). The point is the former does NOT always govern the latter - especially, for people with a lick of sense, where common ground transcends race every time. IF this "unconscious/subconscious bias" even exists, how can it be proven? By definition, it can't. Racial bias exists, sure, but it's very much a conscious thought. I suspect someone has taken the phenomenon of "in-group preference" and re-labled it just to promote division. More communist pseudo-academia (that brown, greasy finger paint of the left)
@@lsu1992 There are crucial holes in your argument and it seems to come from a misunderstanding about psychological processes. In your first example, your conscience won over your team bias because you wanted to be fair. It means your bias was not really threatened enough to go against your principles. Moreover, your bias manifested itself in thought and desire but never realized in external action. A bias has to do with something that you value greatly, because of this it must have a psychological imprint, as a learned reaction. You mentioned that racial bias is conscious bias? This cannot be, you are making things up. If racial bias is not in the unconscious or subconscious, then it doesn't exist at all because it will have no psychological root. Conscious bias is actually the manifested learned reaction either in thought or in external action.
@Tom Hargett It would be a very safe bet that slavery in various places on this planet has been going on for tens of thousands of years (at least) before reading and writing were invented, and that people of every race have in some time or place in history been the enslavers and the enslaved. There is no point in accusing one race more than another from a historical perspective. Just deal with the individuals and organizations in the current day who are still enslaving people (there are millions of slaves around the world even now of every race, many nationalities, men, women, and children).
That woman literally didn’t understand the answer. Ben’s response is not novel. Jordan Peterson says the exact same thing! Her follow up behavior is ridiculous ... unless she didn’t understand the answer.
She definitely didn’t understand the answer. Nor was she prepared to listen with an open mind. The root of this behaviour is pride and arrogance.....which has been seeded and stoked by academia along with their Marxist ideology woven into the education system. People who ask a question to someone they already disagree with can't give the attention or have the patience to listen to the response - since they already decided they didn't agree from the start. Hmm, well, isn't that unconscious bias right there? How ironic she did that. .
Because they don't believe they are unqualified. It's extremely difficult to find people who honestly believe they're merely average or even below average. Everyone wants to believe they're above average in any category.

It's closer than you think. Currently, from what I've read, there is this push to basically merge man and machine -- as here, AI. What they want to do is enable things like, you think about the lights in your house when you walk in, your Alexa, or some other AI machine, "hears" these thoughts electronically, flips on your lights via WiFi. The problem is, if you can send signals out, you can receive signals as well -- which means that someone, somewhere, would literally be monitoring your thoughts, which, I believe, will lead to the idea of the Thought Police being real.

The worst thing she did to herself was to tell him "you can collect your thoughts". In that 2 second pause we knew he was going to destroy her.
Absolutely

This whY i THINK THAT THE TERM UNCONSCIOUS BIAS IS A WRONG TERM. SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED SUBCONSCIOUS BIAS.
Subconscious bias is a much better term and one that really exists and can be measured in dynamic situations.
The only unfortunate thing is you cannot change subconscious bias in adults. If you are punished as a child for playing with a classmate of a certain race then you will grow up to have a subconscious bias towards that race and it will be very nearly impossible to change. The best you could hope for is to not pass it down to your own children.

If that woman is typical of today's college student, America is lost, there is no hope.
Yes Ben. The answer isn’t unconscious bias training, it is self control!
I think the term self control isn't proper 🤔...
They want to stop a train of thoughts where you have no control over it...

Thought police are a very bad idea. One of the things that makes humans better over time is the ability to recognize the thoughts in their heads and determine if they are going to act on them or reject them. Unconscious bias sets a dangerous precedent. Can you see the court case?
Lawyer: "The defendent murdered the victim due to unconscious bias."
That would never fly. The conscious mind overrides the unconscious mind all the time.

@Krimsen King Are your questions directed to anyone in particular or are they open to anyone to respond?
Well said!!

Ben really does look everything as critically as possible and from both sides of the fence and delivers his views respectably I can't help but like the guy.
Spot on. We have 60000 thoughts a day, of course we’re not acting out on each of those.
If you're manic depressive like me you can extend that by 1000° expansively. Now there's a real treat trying to process 657.30 frames per parsec as they flash through your mind.
Having fUN N O W ! !
The whole theory of unconscious bias is ridiculous.
I can take a stab at it-
For example, I am an LSU alumn and yuge football fan.

You CANNOT control what people think. Until somebody invents a mind reading machine, our thoughts are still our own and completely private.
They sure try though, repeat, repeat, works on soooo many, you know it.
