This season was SO good, and this episode makes me appreciate the characterization of Series 7 and 8 more in retrospect. I honestly just want to do a whole long video over analyzing Clara's character arc across all three seasons.
Series 7, she was almost an innocent cinnamon roll, an introduction (which took half a series. Can't blame anyone, blame the 50th anniversary). Series 8 she showed her control freak side, her selfish side, and her and the Doctor have bumps in their relationship, get back together, and because of it, their relationship grows deeper. Clara becomes more and more like the Doctor (as seen in Deep Breath, Flatline, Dark Water and Death in Heaven) Series 9 she becomes reckless and just wants to find the thrills. I think she knows that she can't always do this time travelling thing. So she makes the most of it.

hes not actually 4.6billion years old, he kept burning the old copy didnt he so he only has the memory and experiece of the final run in the dial, not the whole thing
I've said this in a few places that the last 3 episodes of Series 9 were the most epic romance I've seen on TV in years (sorry, Outlander gets trumped by about 4 1/2 billion years). It was an amazing piece of TV. I wish they hadn't spoiled it by putting the River Song episode on just three weeks alter (nothing against River and I'm not going to play one character off another but they shouldn't have done a romance story right after a romance story of such scope). I have no idea how they'll be able to top it next season except for a storyline that brings Clara back for a final get-together with Twelve before he regenerates (that's not a spoiler: next year is Capaldi's third season and if he sticks to the pattern probably his last, though if he stays longer I will not complain). I love watching these reaction videos because it's like experiencing this story for the first time all over again.
I've missed Clara this season - she was barely there lots of the time, she's either separated from the Doctor or the story's action-based and there's a lot of exposition to get through. But her presence is usually intense and story-changing

The Hybrid is the Doctor because he's the only one who fulfills all parts of the prophecy, most specifically the last:
Born of two warrior races - The Doctor
Will stand in the ruins of Gallifrey - The Doctor
Will unravel the web of time, and destroy a billion billion hearts to heal his own - What the Doctor was willing to do to save Clara
That's why he's the Hybrid, and why he says to Clara, "I became the Hybrid."
It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. The Time Lord's efforts to learn about the prophecy in order to stop it, caused it to happen. They created the situation that led to Clara's death, which pushed the Doctor to extremes to save her, and risked him becoming the Hybrid (had he succeeded in wiping her memory, she would never have known she needed to return to Trap Street to die, which would have been catastrophic). Had the Time Lords never done anything, it would never have come true.

Ah yes, I remember being so hyped for this finale; the return of Gallifrey, the Doctor's confrontation with Rassilon, his people and the consequences of his actions. Two whole seasons of excitement and build-up to see how the return of the Doctor's home world, and what would happen. The first ten minutes of the episode was amazing...
Before it immediately turns into another "Clara Clara Clara" episode.

I like the Gallifrey story and I like Clara too. But by trying to focus on both this episode tried to have its cake and eat it all at once. It was a hybrid itself, lost between two ideas and unable to master either of them very well. It let down the superb Clara send off in Face the Raven and it let down the build up to Gallifrey's return.
What Moffat needed was restraint. After a rather bold and risky series, this whole finale felt like a cop out. Then again most of the finales feel that way.
Josh Jenkins If anything, I think Clara's ending of becoming The Doctor herself is not only an appropriate and logical end to her storyline, but also far more bold and audacious than simply killing her off. Any show can kill characters off when it wants to make things interesting. Some shows get off on killing as many characters as they can. Heck, lots of secondary characters keep dying almost every week on Doctor Who. This to me was far better because Clara's death hasn't actually been unwritten or changed or anything like that. Everything that happened in "Face the Raven" is intact as it is and she does indeed still die (you can even look at all of it as something that's already happened - she's already finished her travels, gone back, and died).
I agree that the episode had too much packed in and too little time to properly handle most of that stuff, but the first 20 minutes or so and the last 10-15 minutes or so are great. It's absolutely my favorite companion exit so far.
What can I say, this is basically what goes on in the Doctor's head anyway: "Clara Clara Clara Clara ... " you're not wrong! We're finally getting the Doctor's perspective. Yay.

Watching it again made me cry again.
The hybrid was the Doctor and Clara, because they had become so close, so bonded over the series that they almost became one. They thought, as one, they could interpret the other's non-verbal language as easily as if they were telepathically linked, the only thing they didn't anticipate, was their love for each other. Clara had no idea that the Doctor would've done anything like this for her. They learn in the end, that some things need to be said (tenrose feels, anyone?) , and they said them to each other in that scene in the Cloisters, which left annoying ambiguity to their entire relationship which I firmly believe is romantic but is also arguable because Steven Moffat made it so. But back to the Hybrid. The Doctor almost destroyed the universe, the entire time and space or whatever, FOR Clara. He destroyed Skaro, too. He changed history. But Clara? You could say that she taught him all those things about humanity, that she was selfish too.

DarthRushy I must say that Last Christmas was quite a fanfic fairytale-esque episode too, if that's what you were referring to. Which episodes are your favourite, over the last 10 years or so?
Nicole Song All of Series 1, the 2009 specials, most of Series 5, Day Of The Doctor and Heaven Sent.
Remember the first Star Trek movie from JJ Abrams?, remember the conflict Spock went through in that movie? trying to reconcile his Vulcan side with his human emotions?, I think the same frame can be applied to the hybrid in here, which would mean that the Doctor's final words before he passed out "I became the hybrid..." would be the correct answer.
Think about it: a Time Lord's reasoning being overwhelmed by human emotions... what could be more dangerous than that!, no wonder the high council of Gallifrey went to such lengths to find it.
Even though River is a nice choice, the way I see it, during her whole history in the show, I can't recall any instances on which she was the target of the high council. I mean, I'm pretty certain every single time she was the one keeping the Doctor in check... in her own way.
You two are great, enjoyed the Five'ish doctors vid. Was a great TV treat when it aired.

Think of it this way. Clara mixed with the Drs timeline,she literally fused with him, so for me they are the hybrid.
Their timelines are entwined. Their affection is entwined around each other. What can I say. They're meant to be. A hybrid.
Theory: When clara is ready to die she drops off the tardis with the broken chameleon circuit on gallifrey and that becomes the 1st doctor's tardis.

when you think about it, Clara's Tardis could be the Doctor's. when she finallly gets tired of adventuring with Me and decides to face her fate, she could drop by Gallifrey and tell the first Doctor to take her Tardis, as they showed before.

+Nicole Song think about it, she knew what the Tardis would look like, so she could have even messed around with the chameleon circuit to make sure it would eventually get stuck looking like it does now. She's basically immortal when she steals that Tardis (being stuck in that second before her death), so she and Me could conceivably have adventures for a really long time. Time enough to make her an expert in all things Tardis related.

I think her loss and his inability to save her from the Raven and Ashildr plan to capture him was so traumatic to him . He could not accept that he had made saved Ashildr and he couldn't save Clara. He rages shoots general and rewrites her history as he knows he couldn't bear to have her forget him.

Thing that I recall which is interesting, when he stopped time and time locked Calra and brought her into the lab. When he asked one of the guys in the lab for the gadget that in the end would wipe his memory instead of Clara's he asked
for one that was "Human Compatible" .. So for that gadget to have worked on the Doctor .. he'd have to be part Human

Considering the First Doctor outright called himself the original, and we've seen all his regenerations since then, no, it really doesn't mean that.

Regarding River: she actually does get referred to as a "hybrid" by another Time Lord in Eighth Doctor audio Doom Coalition 2, so Mary's theory definitely fits.

In regards to the Prophecy it was the Doctor it was referring to. "It will break a billion billion hearts to mend its own" The Doctor spent over 4.5 billion years in the confession dial, killing himself constantly during all that time. "The creature will one day stand in the ruins of Gallifrey" The Doctor did that in his conversation with Me. "He will unravel the web of time" He started it off by not sending Clara back so that she could die in Trap Street.
so because he spent a billion yrs in his hell... he is now over a billion yrs old? I know that he went back to an earlier version of him to be able to break free from this place
Doctor would have regenerated of old age many times if he was really 4.5 billion years old, the teleporter rebuilt him every time meaning he was just over 2000 years old every time the teleporter worked, hes probably around the same age when he got out of the dial

You know, even with you two separated and Amy's camera going down. that worked out well. As for the Hybrid, since the Doctor's plan to save Clara would've fractured time, Me's theory of he and Clara being the hybrid was what I understood it to be. Apparently, as long as Clara can take her Tardis back to Gallifrey the moment she left, she can travel for as long as she wants and still save time. Sweet Deal.

I'd say that the Doctor is the hybrid because I have a second theory which I by myself believe on it very much, is that the Doctor is half human half gallifreyan.

The Doctor's also 1/2 human, that's been established thuout the show and officialized in the TV movie of 96.
When they tell Clara how long he was in the confessional dial, that look on her face, you can tell that is the moment she realises how corrupt and evil the Timelords are and just why The Doctor left Gallifrey in the first place.
Yes, in the script when he says "I had a duty of care", that is the moment Clara realizes the depth of his devotion to her. That's why she changes her mind about "saying things" to each other.

I thought the Doctor was right, when he called himself the Hybrid. The hybrid stood in the ruins of Gallifrey. There only was me, the Doctor, and Clara inside the Tardis. Me says even the other immortals have gone. I think the Hybrid story is over.

some people on here can be quite rude. I think you both do a wonderful job. there were some comments about people talking too much and they couldn't hear the episode. I personally think that's because these are reaction videos and not just episodes.

Clara gets saves. Blonde girl's - sorry don't know your name - stares at the screen in disgust. I'm like. YES! She has the common sense to hate this! First 25 min of Hell Bent I loved! Last 25 min of Hell Bent I hated it and pretend that the whole episode doesn't exist.
what do you use to have side by side video, i know you use skype but when i do it its just a big screen of my friend and im in a little box in the corner also what do you use to have the screen at the bottom is there a certain program or software, would appreciate the help if you would be so kind
Hi Matt! Amy edits in Adobe Premiere Pro and Mary edits in Sony Vegas. Both programs has this feature. To explain it quickly, put both the videos on top of eachother, so that they play at the same time, and then change the size of them both, so they both fit in your "video area". Hope that helps!

The thing about the TARDIS only making that noise because he leaves the brakes on has to have been a joke from River; nothing else in the show's history supports it. All TARDISes - the Doctor's, the Master's, the Rani's - have made that noise.

no, 4.5 billion years is how long more the Earth has to live. The Sun will consume it and become a red giant.
I think, the Hybrid is a Clara and Me. Because in this episode were saying something about the prophecy of the matrix. Something like this: "The hybrid will destroy the Time Lords, order to heal broken heart". Clara has no heartbeat. I think, perhaps, Clara will be those who will destroy the Gallifrey.

+srmcd1 A week? Doctor Who Magazine had a spoiler cover to a month ahead and back in August there was UK media coverage galore covering the diner shoot so a lot of folks were waiting for the scene. A lot of folks assumed she was playing an echo or it would be for a flashback though.

i have actually been to the diner in this episode about a month before they recorded this episode i went because i knew they recorded doctor who there it is in cardiff bay and it is called eddies diner and the burgers taste amazing

I hate that there's no reaction to _that_ exchange. First time since the Movie that anyone's mentioned the idea that the Doctor is half-human, and while RTD would have made a dismissive mention ("I was half-human in 1999 for a bit but I got over that, it was like a 48-hour cold or something") it's just brought up as a possibility, and while the idea that the Doctor is the Hybrid is dismissed by him... the idea he's half-human isn't.
It's practically canon now. I wonder if Moffat or Chibnall will make that a plot point coming up.
