Heaven Sent/Hell Bent is my favourite finale of NewWho, I just love how personal it feels compared to the others. No giant invading army or end of the universe for stakes, just a man that's lost his best friend and can't deal with that fact.

Hell Bent is probably my favourite finale, it’s Moffat exploring the relationship of the Doctor and Clara, and provides a good critique of the pretty horrible exit Donna got in Journey’s End.
The Hybrid is the Doctor and Clara. We see the prophecy unfold over the course of Heaven Sent and Hell Bent. The two warrior races are humans and Time Lords, the Doctor risks unravelling the web of time by taking Clara out of her death on Trap Street, the Doctor destroys millions of hearts over his billions of years in the Confession Dial every time he dies, and they stand in the ruins of Gallifrey at the end of the universe.
The prophecy was basically a predestination paradox. The Time Lords were so paranoid at what the Matrix had predicted that they manipulated Ashildr and got Clara killed, which ended up creating the Hybrid they had wanted to prevent.

22:30 is probably the main reason i loved this finale so much
Everyone was expecting big explosions and grand speeches but im so glad it was a personal story. For me, series 9 is the most well written series. 5 comes close, but like Luke said pretty much every story was the Doctor and Clara pushing each other to do crazy stuff, i just really wish we had Missy here because she was responsible for all this

I can’t believe we are here, saying goodbye to Clara as sad as it I’m really excited for deepa to meet new people as Clara had been here for a while.

2:35 Time Lords commonly recognise each other even through regenerations. That's kinda why Master love disguises.

"Like we're watching a medieval drama". In an episode featuring Maester Llewyn and Arya Stark.

I've gone on something of a journey with this episode, I went from "not as good as Heaven Sent but still good" to "kind of disappointing" to "outright bad", and now it's looped back around and I really love it now. There's so much to like about this one: the excellent score, the beautiful direction, Capaldi and Coleman's impeccable performances, the subversive yet thematically appropriate resolution to the Hybrid story, the gut-wrenching dialogue between the Doctor and Clara, I could go on. Series 9 is a bit of a messy series I'll admit, but these final three episodes were the perfect way to tie everything up. I can't wait to see your reactions to the Christmas special, it's one of the best in my opinion

How about: the Doctor, alone, is the hybrid. After all, he is human on his mother's side, as he said in the 1996 movie. While everyone has ignored that line, Moffat has said in an interview that the show has never said it is wrong!

    • @SwiftFoxProductions
      @SwiftFoxProductions 3 місяці тому

Moffat definitely wrote this episode to allow for that possibility. It's the reason why Ashildr asks about the Doctor being half-human and the Doctor avoids the question. So, it's never fully confirmed whether the hybrid is the Doctor & Clara or the Doctor alone. It's meant to be slightly ambiguous so, you can decide for yourself which you believe (since Ashildr only offers theories, it's up to us to decide which one is correct). I, actually, appreciate Moffat doing that. He recognizes the value of mystery when it comes to the Doctor, which is why I know he has said that he kinda likes the possibility of the Doctor being half-human to still be floating around out there (not for it ever to necessarily be confirmed... just for the mystery/idea that it might be true to still be there).

The hybrid story arc is completed in the last episode of season 12. (They don't make a big deal about it - the resolution is very understated, it doesn't actually even get a specific mention, but if you remember the prophecies of the hybrid from this season, that's where they are fulfilled).

Technically he was in the confession dial for 4.5 billion years, but the Doctor’s perception of that time wasn’t very long considering he kept being replaced by copies of himself based on his self when he originally arrived. He probably has only memories of being in there a few days max.

@@Atothetheist I’m way late seeing this as UA-cam didn’t notify me of this comment but no he doesn’t. It’s literally part of the plot that he doesn’t understand what’s happening in the confession dial until he works it out after every reboot/redo. Not sure what line you’re referring to but I’m fairly confident it never happened as it makes no sense. The closest thing to it is he never refutes how long he was thought to have been in there because he knows it is factually true but he doesn’t have actual memories of that time period.

I think Donna is the true highbred to cause 15 to become timeless child, to create a division universe, in which Ruth is the future doctor and Ruby the doctor born within the division universe led to 15 to stop the division.
All starting when 12 kicked Rassilon off Gallifrey after sending Missy to connect 11 and Clara to save gallifeay, creating the cracks of time in which 11 was given the energy to become the timless child as 15

Always a joy watching you two, with your faces, and heads on necks.
While I enjoyed a lot if this episode, IMO the Hybrid goo went nowhere. It wasn't properly defined, nor was I connecting emotionally to the resolution. It was all just _a big nothing_ to me. It didn't help that I never felt Clara was a companion worthy of destroying time and space. Not that she's icky, just compared to virtually every other. . .she's relatively samey.¹
The Hybrid ploodaplops actually reminds me of when I was a young teen just starting to play D&D some 40 years ago. There were times I'd referee a game and have an interesting sounding concept, which ultimately went nowhere because I never fleshed it out properly. That's exactly how all of this Hybriddly-boop hit me.
    Be well you two! 🙋🏼‍♂️
*EDIT:* I'm so looking forward to your reaction to the Christmas Special, _The Church on Ruby Road!_ I absolutely adored it! Did you do one, or just enjoy it with the family?

Clara flew her TARDIS back to Victoria’s Coronation and took her place. It’s on TV so it’s true. After her reign Clara will show up on the new spin-off with David Tennent’s “Forever Doctor”.

This started off interesting with what looked like there was going to be focused on conflict between the Doctor and Rassilon on Gallifrey which I got so invested in but when the Clara thing happened it all fell apart my struggle with the Moffat era is he never keeps characters dead I was satisfied with Clara's ending she didn't need to come back.
This was the worst finale ever for me along with "The Wedding of River Song".

Although far from the best finale, I actually like this episode, saying that, I do think this was where Dr Who started to go downhill pretty quickly. There are some good episodes to come but for me they happen less often. On a side note, did deepa get engaged or married?. I noticed the rings on her finger at 0.28, then went back and looked at a few older videos and noticed the same in them. If so I don't know how the hell I missed that, Lol.
