  • This NAD 2400 power amp was defective when I received it. There was a blown fuse due to the defective power transistors. In fact, I used my dim bulb tester to test the left channel (cut off power to right channel) first and it was no short. Then I went through all the components on right channel, found the defective parts and fixed them. This unit sounds very clear and smooth. It is worth to keep if you own one.

    Thank you very much for this video. I've had 2 of these units sitting on my shelf for a bit longer than a year already as I am a beginner in audio. The issues you experienced here are very similar to what mine are doing and I will certainly try to confirm accordingly. I want to let you know that I truly appreciate you for posting this.

    Your tutorial makes even a novice like me follow and fix easily. Please upload how to fix sansui 5000x right channel not working. Thanks

      Thanks for the comments. I don't have a Sansui 5000X to show you the repair video. However, I am working on another Marantz 2230 repair project which will show how to detect and troubleshoot the non working channel issue.

      No. There is a new 2230 repair project which I have done recently. I am editing it right now and will post it in next few days. This video will explain the steps are needed to deal with the non working receivers.

    Another great video.
    Well done for this repair.
    May I know how you pick the replacement transistors?

      I always check the OEM transistor datasheet first. Then I gather information from website for the equivalent replacements. Here is a link which covers the info. for how to select the substitution (same as my method) :
      www.bustedgear.com/faq_transistor_substitution.html
      Also I prefer the selected transistors are designed for low noise hi-fi audio use.

    I have the same amp. quick question: my speaker (KEF C85) indicates "IMP 4Ω AMP 150W (4Ω)" at the back. currently, the NAD is set at 8Ω. Should I switch it to 4Ω?

      A 4Ω amplifier can drive an 8Ω loudspeaker but it will produce 50% less power. Conversely an 8Ω amp driving a 4Ω loudspeaker produces 50% more power.

    Not as tube sounding as the integrated amp but clean and dynamic.

    Is biamping is possible in this amp?

    • @VintageAudioFan
      @VintageAudioFan  2 роки тому

      It can be bridged to 200W per manufacturer's spec but needs (2) 2400s or adding an amp to do bi-amp for speakers.
