Brian Everard Liz Phair too. I even think i hear Superchunk. glad you like them. i fell in love when they opened for the Breeders.(who i love) but Sade stole the show. i was so into listening to the Speedy CD for the ride home after the show.
same! he's ridiculously solid. after watching probably every performance they currently have on youtube, my conclusion is that (while the whole band is obviously solid musicians) he is doing an excellent job at holding all of it together
The Pavement sound was what attracted me to the band. They do a hell of a job aping Pavement, too. She has that disinterested vocalist thing Malkmus does down PERFECTLY. How she sometimes sings and sometimes flattens her notes like she doesn't give a damn. Plus her lyrics have that hyper-literate/maybe doesn't mean anything Malkmus feel. And how the whole band has a general lackadaisical style of the 90s lo-fi bands. Love it.
After working at 4 record stores throughout the 90's and getting to listen to 100's of albums by 100's of artists, I can honestly affirm these guys are wicked sick. More importantly, listening to their songs several times and different versions, these are solid songs that I can't say I get sick of it. I get that they sound very 90's and maybe that's what I'm digging here. Sadie is a bit of a princess (as I found seeing Sad13) and they're allegiance to Pavement is just misplaced but she works hard lyrically and blends well with the fellas who crank all the estrogen out of the whole mess. That's my feel on them. Long live the SO
5:49 is pure heaven.......no one sounds like this namore.. if you guys forget about evrything but composing im sure everyone else will hear and feel what you guys trigger in me..I wanna hear ya mellon collie ya nevermind..,ten, core,..sixtennstoned..F@#ck the current state of pop music..
amazing act. i saw them open for the breeders and speedy was better. to all the negative comments...stick to your rap music and Fun. you dont get this so dont put it down.
I tied my guitar on a rope to the back of my car and let it drag a few blocks on the pavement now it looks as kewl as yours. You guys are prob so sick of hearing about Pavement.
EmotionalBoyz2003 agreed. i've been trying to learn their tunes. there's obviously the occasional power chord thrown in, but some of the other fingerings are hard to make out even when watching their hands in these videos. great band, confusing the brain = growth
SonicSeraphim First of they're not playing out of key and if I were to guess I would say they they're playing ethier jazz chords or they're playing in a different tuning with some octaves, and harmonics thrown in.
reading some of the negative comments....really funny. i was the biggest Pavement fan. have all their albums.......they cant touch Speedy Ortiz. just my opinion. also, when Pavement first started they couldnt really play their instruments....SPeedy Ortiz are awesome musicians. so take that.
madmaxah no you can keep it. im the biggest fan of too many bands. Speedy Ortiz, The Joy Formidable, No Joy, Ringo Deathstarr, Lemuria, Swearin', Juliana Hatfield, Giant Drag, the Breeders. too many. all the best to you too.
So Speedy Ortiz is alive and Broadcast is dead - thanks a lot world. Please consider instrumentals this girl cant find an attractive melody in 40 minutes or years. The guys sound good like real musicians.
No Below is one of my favorite songs on their album. This is a great performance.
This is the love child of Helium, Pavement, and Polvo, and my god, it is beautiful.
Brian Everard Liz Phair too. I even think i hear Superchunk.
glad you like them. i fell in love when they opened for the Breeders.(who i love) but Sade stole the show. i was so into listening to the Speedy CD for the ride home after the show.
4years late but yes Polvo’s sound is so far in their shit
Spot on, now all I hear is Stephen malkmus
No below is my favorite song by them. I heard it in life is strange before the storm.
The drummer.
fuckin' love the drummer!
same! he's ridiculously solid. after watching probably every performance they currently have on youtube, my conclusion is that (while the whole band is obviously solid musicians) he is doing an excellent job at holding all of it together
I wanna see this band live sooooooo bad.
The band's request.
that lady has the best job.
looking back this had a huge impact on my youth
What's up with the dislikes? This is by far the most exciting "new" band I've seen on KEXP this year, and that's really something.
Does anyone here feel like this KEXP show is a seance to bring back the ghost of Pavement?
The Pavement sound was what attracted me to the band. They do a hell of a job aping Pavement, too. She has that disinterested vocalist thing Malkmus does down PERFECTLY. Matt Bates they do it better than pavement tho. and i was huge into pavement. i just love speedy ortiz. big time. hexxy is the fu 'n bomb.
i guess the seance worked lol
Finally something different! Thank you kexp and Speedy Ortiz!
Now I'm really excited to see them play at my Local Record store this Friday!
90s sound! woa! i like it
I like how Mike is still in the band now.
For some reason this band reminds me of The Dismemberment Plan but the song "No Below" sounds like an old Elliott Smith take from Heatmiser...
Checking these out from seeing a t-shirt J mascis was wearing...fucking wow , just ordered the album. Im in love!
I love how she picks at the neck. People used to give me so much shit for that
ugh I am in love
If you don't like this, I'll assume you're a fan of Dream Theatre.
OMFG A GOOD GRUNGE BAND THATS NOT FUCKING DEAD!
I like at 11:17 when Matt's headset falls off, and Mike's comes soon after.

Fucking cringe comment
i love Hexxy
Yes .... rock music should be dirty .... not a clean rendition of acting angry
reminds me a bit of Nirvana, in a good way
2:55 No Below aproveite
I don't think it really sounds that much like Pavement. It reminds me of Helium a bit...
yesssssssssssssssssssssssss
Genial..
I think Cheryl Waters really wanted to say "FUCK YEAH" after Hexxy but.... she can't.
5:49 is pure heaven.......no one sounds like this namore.. if you guys forget about evrything but composing im sure everyone else will hear and feel what you guys
trigger in me..I wanna hear ya mellon collie ya nevermind..,ten, core,..sixtennstoned..F@#ck the current state of pop music..

it does sound like pavement but it's still great
Why'd you guys take down Gary?
very new
awesome. Reminds me a lot of Pavement lol
Is Cheryl alright?
癌? Get well soon Cheryl.
omg its sarah from prison break
they're a lot more quiet live than on the record
not bad
Really estrange, but I like it
Sadie is so hot
Oh, no... is Cheryl going through chemo? Best wishes if so but I hope I'm wrong.
sounds like pavement
this band would be so much better if the bass was more of a deeper bass sound like a public image limited, rather than that ping pong sound
She reminds me of my cute lab partner from junior year. A lot cooler though.
I wish No Below wasn't so much better than and different from all of their other songs :/
yah theres that 90's bollocks going on, but they have also been listening to don van vliet.....
this band is the proof that the breeders were better than the pixies
Ecléctico Iconoclasta i saw speedy open for the breeders...fantastic show. kim is the pixies imo. so she is no longer with them.....im not either.
I think Breeders is in the same level of Pixies.
Bad is the new good?
I tied my guitar on a rope to the back of my car and let it drag a few blocks on the pavement now it looks as kewl as yours. You guys are prob so sick of hearing about Pavement.
they were better when hannibal buress played for them
Playing out of key is too cool for me.
dissonant not out of tune
EmotionalBoyz2003 agreed. i've been trying to learn their tunes. there's obviously the occasional power chord thrown in, but some of the other fingerings are hard to make out even when watching their hands in these videos. great band, confusing the brain = growth
EmotionalBoyz2003 Out of key, not tune. Harmonic progressions = in key, dissonant = out of key.
SonicSeraphim First of they're not playing out of key and if I were to guess I would say they they're playing ethier jazz chords or they're playing in a different tuning with some octaves, and harmonics thrown in.
Max Mitchelson There aren't enough modes and octaves to justify how bad they sound. :(
reading some of the negative comments....really funny. i was the biggest Pavement fan. have all their albums.......they cant touch Speedy Ortiz. just my opinion.
also, when Pavement first started they couldnt really play their instruments....SPeedy Ortiz are awesome musicians. so take that.
miked4309 Sorry. im the biggest Pavement fan. Malkmus is unique ;)
S. Ortiz really have talent.
madmaxah you took my spot? i love haunt you down.
i just get upset when i see people say speedy wants to be pavement....NO...they are speedy ortiz.
miked4309 it was always mine. well, i can share it...all the best from Portugal.
madmaxah no you can keep it. im the biggest fan of too many bands. Speedy Ortiz, The Joy Formidable, No Joy, Ringo Deathstarr, Lemuria, Swearin', Juliana Hatfield, Giant Drag, the Breeders. too many.
all the best to you too.
Yes, but Pavement are unique. Are u american?
What sounds good to them wont necessarily sound good to you.
So Speedy Ortiz is alive and Broadcast is dead - thanks a lot world. Please consider instrumentals this girl cant find an attractive melody in 40 minutes or years. The guys sound good like real musicians.
If you don't like it just leave.
Relax there Frankie - I think they are nice people
L take
Am I the only one who thinks this sounds kind of not good. Never a big fan of 90s alt sound. Oh well.
Shit, they sound awful live. I loved the album but this was so dissapointing.
This is just terrible...
Awful.
