      I'm happy for Brad and his father, they had what me and my father didn't. Cancer took my father from me, the strongest man I knew, the man I knew would understand me for what I did. The man who if I got in trouble doing something the right way, would high five me, and tell me, "if your mother asks, this was our talk."

      My Dad told me if anyone lays a hand on me I was required to defend myself and make sure that they never tried again or I would answer to Him.
      I was very small and a lot of children with low self esteem had their self esteem lowered even more being beat by the shortest kid in the school district ...including kindergarten. ;-)

      I was lucky, my dad was just like that. I am not a dwarf but my dad and I are both 5'2". When I was little and we didnt know if I might be taller my dad would say "If you get bigger than me that won't give you a right to act up cause I know where you sleep and I'll bring a bat if I have to. And my parents rule was "You can never throw the first punch, but if you are defending yourself then there wont be any punishment on our end. I became smartassed enough to get anyone I wamted to fight to take that swing and learned how to take a punch

      Came to us adults with a skit for stage-night. Pretend football match. Albino is QB. Black giant on opposite side. Albino hands off twice to teammates, they are stopped cold by the giant. Albino takes third snap, and, in "slow motion" , runs through the line, pushing giant over. And then running *over top* of the giant. Giant gets up and cries out in anguish " Pick on someone your OWN size! "
      Most original skit we had ever seen, and totally the brainchild of those two kids.

      My dad wasn't that way. If I got in a fight in school, (which was a regular occurence), he'd leave work, pull me out of school & take me down a back road, and give me a good belting. With his belt. My mom used a wooden spoon, usually for the same fight. He never encouraged me to fight back, but I did anyways, because I was always being bullied. I got the belt because I was a 3rd grader who got in a fight with a 6th grader. Dad's mom told him to fight back, or it was his Grandpa. My two kid brothers got to learn karate. 😡🤬

    • @jacobshort6528
      @jacobshort6528 4 роки тому +1

      I got no encouragement to stand up for myself, or talk back. And I always got punished for trying to do so. My mom even threatened me with prison at age 13. I was the bullies favorite victim. I was bullied the 1st day of school by a 6th grader on the school bus. I broke his finger. And got spanked for it.

    I love the way his dad taught him to defend himself instead of protecting him. Brad is an AWESOME man, thanks to his dad being there for his son, and teaching the important things. This is why dads are so important in children's lives, so dads that actually stuck around their child and raised them, we wanna thank those dads. Also thank the dads that came back to check on the welfare of their children if he had parted from his mom, and apologized to their children for not being there for them, and trying to make things right. Happy Father's Day to these fathers.

      I was welling up, ain't gonna lie. I never knew my Dad. He was around for only the first two years or so of my life and then he split to be with his other family (yes, he had two now). Mom never went after him. Never made a deal about it. She did make me grow up to hate him, however.
      Until the day she showed me an article in the local paper and after reading it she asked me what I thought of the dude in the story.
      "Fucking jet trash." I say.
      "That's your Father." She says.
      Then the truth came out. Dad, it seemed, was a philanderer indeed, but he loved my Mom and he loved his two families, but times were different then. Though he embraced his inner scumbag, she admitted to me that near every day of my life she could see more and more of him in me. Mannerisms, ways of speaking, charisma, presence...shit like that. Hated this man all my life, he ended up a scumbag cheating old ladies outta their pensions...but now I wanted to meet him. Now that I know way more about him than I ever did.
      And I got my chance.
      At his funeral.
      And lemme tell you - it was like looking in a fucking mirror when I peered down into that casket. I was my Dad. Except taller. I even remember the horrified look on the dude's face when he was out front regaling the audience about my Dad and who he was and all that shit and that man never took his eyes off me the entire time. He knew. He knew who I was. He had know. My brother and sister (whom I never met and didn't know) were in the front row and I kept praying for this man to look any other direction because if any of them turned around, things could get ugly in a hurry.
      They never did, thankfully. I kept my cool and laid low as everyone was filing out to head to the graveyard. I was one of two people left in the room, the other being some guy prepping the casket for transport. I walked up to him and his face went white. He knew too. He had to know.
      I gave him a letter I wrote for my Dad, forgiving him and myself. Him for leaving, and me for hating him my whole life. Apologising that and lamenting that I never had the chance to at least see him and talk to him even once in a KNOWN life. I asked that it be put in with him and buried with him but that no soul on this planet could ever know it was in there because I wasn't sure the other family knew about us. He just nodded and put his hand on my shoulder.
      My Dad may have been a scumbag in the end, but according to my Mom, while he was with us he adored us and loved us like no other. One of my biggest regrets in my life is that I allowed myself to hate so willingly on a man I've never met and whose side of the story I never got to hear. One of my biggest joys though is that my Mom finally allowed herself to say, "You're your Father's son all right." She still sees him in me every day.
      Thanks Dad. You may have died a scumbag but you did your best.

    Brad I'm glad to hear your dad beat cancer, I wish I could say the same about my mom and my grandmother, my mom passed away from stage 4b lung cancer I had to watch her whither away from day one and yeah it killed me when she passed, march 28th of this year will be 6 years and yeah it still hurts and there for a couple years I know I became the son she didnt want to have, but I went through a 10 month rehab in boynton beach florida and got clean, and the only 2 people that helped me through that was my 7 year old daughter and my 3 year old son, but I know I have to move on for them, and teach them to be the best they can be and fight for the things they believe in, and that's what keeps me going, but thank you for your time to make people laugh, and you saying it was your lifetime goal to be the man your dad can be proud of, and I'm sure he would agree with me, I think he is very proud of you

  • @edwardcook2973
    @edwardcook2973 2 роки тому +1

    I love Brad's comedy, and his attitude toward life. Take what most people would call a negative and turn it into your greatest strength.
    My dad was like Brad's dad. He taught us " If you start a fight, you better finish it. Then I will whoop your ass when you get home for starting it. So don't ever start a fight. If there is any way possible, walk away from a fight. If they call you a coward, let them. It is just words. But if you have no choice but to fight, you do and use whatever it takes to be the only one able to walk away at the end of the fight. Then you offer to help them up. That shows them you didn't want to fight in the first place, but that you will defend yourself. It also makes you the bigger man. "
    My dad passed away on January 9, 2002, of lung and esophageal cancer. He had turned 70 on November 24, 2001. He was the man I feared the most in my life, and he was the man I most wanted to be like. He was my idol and my role model. I miss him every day.
    Brad is so lucky to have the kind of father-son relationship that so many children don't ever get. Even many kids who have both parents at home suffer from neglect and abuse from their parents, because their parents believe all of the crap about not spanking or disciplining their child, or every child must be given a trophy simply for participating. Therefore they don't know how to face adversity because they never experienced any. These kids have grown up to be SJW's and Antifa thugs and BLM supporters because they they never received their daily dose of Vitamin NO. They were never forced to face reality and so are now unable to recognize what reality truly is.
    This world needs a hell of a lot more men like Brad's dad. And like Brad.
