Nope. It's not that at all. Gehrman only has x2 HP where Gascoigne Has x4. He never had a chance. Also when Gehrman changes form he get a poise buff which gives Gascoinge even less of a chance. It's not at all because Gascoigne transforms.

Just like we mostly experience in the game, it stands to reason that fighting a Hunter and fighting a Beast is a big difference. Those skills of Gehrman are best suited for fighting Beasts, so they come in real handy when Gascoigne transforms. And the poise-buff he puts on halfway doesn't hurt. :P
Yeah GoE videos have some good music transitions(my favorite is in Orphan vs Maria fight). At first I thought they were due to some nice coincidence but having multiple cases makes me think that GoE edits them in well.

Been waiting for this fight. Great arena, very different intro from usual but absolutely nailed it, no massive disadvantage to either, ultimately came down to final forms to decide the winner. That second round was a nail biter.
They could made an update and add his axe 👍. In new game plus you can call him for help to beat the chleric beast. I just stayed away and just watched the show 😅
It's really cool how in phase 1, Gherman fights with the transformed version of the Burial Blade while in phase 2 he fights with the untransformed version. On the other hand, Father Gascoigne fights with the untransformed Hunter's Axe in phase 1 and with the transformed one in phase 2. I like how their first two phases are antiparallel in terms of weapon transformation.
This really feels like some kind of AU story between these two characters. The first fight is possibly when the teacher starts to see the student going down a dark path and tries to deter him, but Gacoigne's rage and conflicting ideals leads to the fight. The fight ends with Gascoigne giving in to his rage and transforming for the first time, horrifying and saddening Gherman as he knows that Gascoigne's truly lost now. The rematch is perhaps when Gascoigne seeks to usurp Gehrman once and for all, but Gehrman can't help but feel pity and sorrow for failing his former student. It's a sad fight, as it's all about quite literally putting a sick down down for his own good.

I am baffled and appalled that Gehrman and Gascoigne were able to send each other flying or even smashed into the ground cause I didn't even know it was possible for them to be knocked back!
Gehrman attaching the scythe blade to the handle and it folding open, then him catching it with his left hand during his entry cutscene is just so smooth.
The match is pretty balanced, sometimes it even feels like Gascoigne is taking advantage, BUT AS SOON AS HE TRANSFORMS INTO A BEAST, GEHRMAN BEGINS TO OBLITERATE HIM, and it is only normal to me after all, because fighting another hunter is one thing while killing a beast, was the daily bread and wine for Gehrman. It is kind of poetic. "WAIT TILL YOU SEE MY SECOND FORM!!". // "Wait, your second form is a beast?... Oh boy, let me tell you what".
I feel like a lot of Gascoigne's effectiveness is dependent on the nature of the arena. Gehrman didn't have any grave stones to get hung up on like we did the first time we fought the good Father.

If you encounter the Cleric Beast first then sure they could be the first boss, but technically speaking Father Gascoigne is the first "main boss" in Bloodborne, Cleric Beast on the other hand is actually just an optional boss that is somehow more likely to be found first before Gascoigne by majority of players.

A lot closer than I thought they would've been, but I'd say the reason Gehrman wins is because when Father Gascoigne goes beast mode he loses the ability to dodge attacks. Awesome battle though. Kinda neat to see that one of the first bosses is around as powerful as one of the last.
I never really noticed this while playing, but Gehrman’s speed and the camera’s distance really help: Gascoigne frequently swings blindly after Gehrman gets a combo in, which seems like a nice little incorporation of the bandages over his eyes affecting his fighting style. I didn’t really notice this before due to Gascoigne’s dark arena and the tight camera, but it’s just another little detail I really appreciate.

Everything the way this was done was Absolutely AMAZING! From the split intro , music transition , editing etc! Bravo GoE! Bravo! Edit - Watching Gascoigne and Gehrman fight it really strikes me how different they are. Whilst I didn’t notice it fighting them in game as I thought they both wanted to end you as soon as possible , Gehrman is far more tactical in his approach , using distance to his advantage and gets the most precise hits where as Gascoigne really just charges head on with no thought , swinging wildly most of his hits barely connecting like they should , truly showing the decline in what used to be a human who had succumbed to beastly tendencies and was on the verge of losing all sense of human sense whilst Gehrman kept his skill even after all this time being out of service. It truly shows why he’s the first hunter.
