- Det. Supt Steve Hackett (Patrick Mower) investigates the curious theft of rare old paintings from wealthy homes and finds a dedicated young woman (Jan Francis) determined to advance the careers of several young artists. There is another channel on UA-cam that has uploaded the entire series but I merely wanted to highlight this first episode from series two because it co stars the lovely Jan Francis, plus its in better quality than you will find on the aforementioned channel elsewhere.
Target was a British police action drama series involving the 13th Regional Crime Squad. This episode of Target was originally broadcast on the 15th September, 1978.
Trivia: Upon its short lived two series it received over 5,000 letters of complaint from Mary Whitehouse's League of Light whom criticised the series for its level of violence.
The actor Lewis Fiander here playing the character of 'Kingham', the gallery owner, I am a huge fan of as he costars alongside Prunella Ransome in one of my favourite Horror films of the 1970's 'Who Can Kill a Child?' from 1976.
Target had a big advantage over other Police drama's; it was EXCELLENTLY acted across the entire cast.
Well scripted and of its' time. Quality from the time the BBC had their finger on the public pulse. Long since gone
Ah ! The days when we had Medallion Men. ! ( I WAS one !! ). Great stuff.!
Great cast !! Great cars ! Great everything..!
@@2msvalkyrie529 Oh I'm an eejit, I thought You were saying there was a show called "Medallion Men" on BBC and I was looking for it.🫣
Good work putting this up. Now for the other 16..... perhaps. Thank you.
Your welcome, but if I did that my channel would be for the chopping block ;)
@@majordolbyscatYou can upload to Mega or similar and simply link it under the YT video or in channel 'about'. That's what a chap who uploads all Play for Today episodes does.
Thanks. Always a pleasure watching Jan Francis ! Strangely enough, the gallery mentioned in the episode, Kaminsky's, was also the name of the gallery in the 90s auction house series Under the Hammer, which Jan Francis starred in, alongside Richard Wilson
I just noticed that too, it's not like it's a name like Smith
It's still a total mystery to every archive and 70's TV fan, as to why the BBC will not allow, at minimum; Talking Pictures to show this?? It is utterly perplexing. Thankfully I have all 17 eps on good quality bootlegs. Great to see some eps in fine form on here too!
Selfish and above all, the BBC today show a total lack for their heritage, bar BBC4
@@majordolbyscat10-15 years back there was a big push amongst archive fans to get a half decent dvd release with some decent comment and extras attached. But no dvd company would touch it and there was total silence from the BBC. Worse in today's world i don't doubt, where everything and anything appears to be hyper offensive....
The BBC take liberties with our cultural heritage. We all know about wiping. But there are still many programmes the BBC refuse to make available - Mr Wroe's Virgins, arguably the most powerful drama ever produced for television, and early Poliakoff dramas including Stronger Than The Sun. In the third decade of the 21st century we're still viewing archaic videotape copies, usually atrocious quality, of some of the most memorable dramas existing.
😊@@majordolbyscat it's like they're ashamed of the things that made them great.
@@--legion hi there, I just wanted to point out to you that Play for Today of Poliakoff's Stronger Than the Sun is available on UA-cam. Century by poliakoff is on here too. If you want I collected as many P4T as I could find and put them in order in playlists.
Remember this series; quality drama.
This looks like a very interesting series, thank you so much! Jan Francis is a wonderful actress, I just watched the funny episode The Devil Wept in Leeds (Stay Lucky), she was marvellous alongside Dennis Waterman and Michael Jayston. 🥰
I have just watched that episode myself, some very funny moments, and I see it was written by Steven Moffat. I must rewatch that series on the DVD's I have, it would be perfect timing as I have just finished watching Minder ;) Jan on narrowboats you say ;)
Good ole 1970s TV. Days when there was much more freedom to drive around London . Patrick Mower , apparently applied for the role of 007 , reputedly more times than anybody else.
Fancy giving Patrick's Mower's character the same name as the famous Genesis guitarist !
Great to see this - I believe a rights problem prevents it from being given an official release. Many thanks for the upload.
Thanks for the comment and information
Thank you so much.😍😍😍 Thank you so much. 😍😍😍Thank you so much.😍😍😍
More than welcome!
I'd forgotten this! Great seeing it again. Love your channel🌈☀
Very kind of you to say.
Thank you for sharing this
Lovely, thanks!
And you are very welcome!
Absolutely great to see this for the first time in ... a very long time! S2 had a bit less thumping. not that it was exactly graphic or anything. and Bonney without a beard; corking story. "Queen's Pardon" from S2 was my fave episode, I remember Max Wall being a revelation at the time. I think CI5 did an art theft episode as well. Lovely to see Fiander again, Tryst in Doctor Who's "nightmare of Eden" had an ... interesting accent!! Thanks a heap for posting this, great qauality, if only we'd get it on disc ...
I am glad you enjoyed it and thank you for taking the time to comment.
Wow. 🥰🥰🥰 Thank you so much. 😍😍😍
You’re welcome
The driver of the green Cortina in the final chase, was he Regan's driver in the Sweeney?
When was the last time u heard the phrase "dolly bird" 😂
Here for Jan
44:58 and 46:28 - That's "Bill The Driver" from The Sweeney! Regan's permanent Ford Consul chauffeur! Ones a cop driver alway a cop driver?
Thank for sharing this! I’d love to see the rest of the series and series 2. Does anyone know where to find them?
I own all of them on DVDr, which often, in the past, turn up on eBay, not official releases mind you but the quality is like this.
Philip Madoc "Don't tell him Pike". 😃
Oh yes, your right, I'd not made that connection before Brian, I must return to Dad's Army, not something I have watched in many years.
There is something of Bergerac about this episode.
I can see why this garbage didn't run past 17 episodes.
I'm surprised it got that far.
Jan Francis = posh and a solid 9.6
I dont wish to be pedantic but I've seen this Boucher, it's in the
Louvre, And as I remember it, it's not that big . However, you would be talking several million even if it came up for sale !
Thanks for the headsup, good to know if I win the lottery :)
Terrible car chase filmed at 25mph lol
