Just found out about Stefi Cohen yesterday. From the couple of vids I saw yesterday I think she is not only a physical specimen but also an expert in technique and explanation. Which I must say applies to this vid as well. I think I learned a lot from this kind sir and I can't wait to apply these principles at my next deadlift workout. I was happy to give it the 97th up vote. Thank you for posting!
SUPER HELPFUL! I started lifting seriously almost 3 months ago and in my last two PR attempts for deadlift I failed a couple inches off the ground. Today is another pull day so I'm super stoked!
Very useful! My hips tend to shoot so it was helpful to understand how this relates to my suboptimal starting position. I've been so paranoid about over-engaging my back (and potential injury) that I started squatting lower at start position to incorporate more leg/quad involvement, but I think this has actually been to my detriment.
Same! For me it was most noticeable on the heavier sets (lifts like 3x bw) but on lighter ones my form seemed pretty good even starting where I'm not optimal. So he was right in training with the bigger loads to truly get to see what style is best for you
Thank you for making it clear, albeit in a roundabout way, that if you can break the floor you can lift it.and so when novices start deadlifting the only focus should be to see how much they can break.and then address the minutiae.
Hi you didn’t say anything about the lats or bracing the core but I have a question how much back muscle is involved when doing conventional deadlift? I know it’s a posterior chain exercise you push from the floor with your quads and then when it’s gets about the knees you push your hips forward using your glutes the lats keep tight so the bar doesn’t move forward
If you make an Adam Sandler movie reference in every video I promise you I’ll like it and SHARE it every time!! It has to be subtle... “you can do it...-waterboy”
For the deficit deadlift, is it ok to use plates with a smaller diameter instead of a block ? The 15 and the 10 kilo plates in my gym have smaller diameter. So the bar is closer to the ground and essentially you have to reach further down.
Not sure I agree with the accessory selection for "missing off of the floor". There was no mention of halting deadlifts or paused deadlifts and they have much higher specificity then deficit deadlifts or stiff leg. Missing from the floor, assuming the weight isn't just too high, is usually a technical issue; I am not sure I see the use in concentrating on accessories which are basically a different movement from the conventional deadlift, when there are other options that are essentially the exact same movement pattern.
Maybe train Romanian deadlifts with decent weight and focus on slow eccentric motion (i.e. slow lowering of the weight) under load for 8-10 reps / set. You'll feel your hamstrings activated (burning) and develop mind-muscle connection over time. Romanians are also great practice for conventional deadlift anyway. But, I'm not Stefi Cohen so take my advice with a grain of salt.
I've always wondered what back position is most optimal and safe I guess. I've seen videos where people have really rounded backs and they are lifting a bunch of weight lol idk is that ok ?
My humble opinion: it's not recommended for long term back health, but when you see people compete for a 1 rep max, they are lifting a LOT of weight and sometimes form ends up compromised on that lift. Normally your spine should be "neutral" and lower back should not be rounded. Stefi has videos on adaptation and injury that explain a lot about this subject if you look on her page.
@@haydenbowe4610 lol it's cool. You keep my deadlift in check, and I'll keep your movie references in check! Loved the video by the way. Deadlift has been my biggest priority as of late.
Loving Stefi's beard, but her arms have gotten smaller.
Steven Zwier Lol, that was good!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Stefi is awesome.. not the cheater in the vid.
This opening is classic😂😂😂 But seriously this series is gold. Definitely appreciate all of the work you guys have put into it👊

Glad Hayden joined in, make a great team.
Hayden is awesome..!! More Hayden videos.

Excellent video! I love seeing the two of you work together. Very sweet.
Very well explained great videos
Brian Alsruhe also preaches pulling the slack out of the bar. One of the best habits to drill into your head imo.
I'd rather listen to a dead lift champion. I'm listen to stefi
sometimes when you get stuck around your knee check to see your neck position too. I hav a bad habit of tucking chin when the pull feels heavy.
Great thanks
Stefis babies lmfao!. He killed it w that. Yall cute !! 😂😂
Keep it up Mr Stefi Cohen. Great video!
I think Cailer Woolam also does some sort of the bar yanking or I've seen it in some of his videos
That was awesome! You guys are a great team! Thanks again! 😊
From Romania I follow you 💪💪💪
Nice one ....stiff leg deadlift is the best
So much good information thanks so much.
All good advice
Thanks
YEAAAA! STEFI IS BEST UA-camR!
I so needed this my deadlift ain't what it used to be you can tell in my videos
I feel like at 6'6" I'm already doing deficit deadlifts.
Same. 6'4 with T-rex arms feels like a permanent deficit when deadlifting.
Get bigger. Most of the best deadlifters on the planet are 6'3+
I'm 16 and 6,3 going on 6,4 on my grandfather's side the people are 6,9
Same
Perfect I got DLs today
Awesome information 👍👍👍👍
Excellent video
Great job, Hayden. 😁
Steffis babies 🤣🤟🤟
Great vid guys!!
Hayden is my mancrush
please make also a video on press and pull ups
Are u guys gonna do a sticking point video for the sumo deadlift?
Yep, Stefi just put one out on her channel.
Most eksellent dissertation
You da bomb. Gorgeous and strength beyond belief, on top of being an absolute genius. Love ya
Thank you for this video !!
im haydens baby now
"Just tap it in." Got it! Lol.
When I deficit DL I feel like there's more quad involvement/leg drive than standard height. Any idea why?
ur probably squatting the weight up (much like a hack dl)
Taylor Noles try putting your shoulders farther over the bar if possible.
I dont know about that, I rather see Stefi.

Should do a video on knee pain for those who squat 4x a week in their training programs
Solution , don't squat 4 times a week lol
Freedom Of Speech ok
Cool vid
be on your happy place!
More Hayden videos :)
Good video
More Bowe
Thank you for these videos!!!!! 🤘🏽💪🏽
What supplemennts do you use ?
No we don't wana wait till next week☹️ summo deadlift for your babies this week please
If you make an Adam Sandler movie reference in every video I promise you I’ll like it and SHARE it every time!! It has to be subtle... “you can do it...-waterboy”
Hahaha, we'll see what we can do.

Yes, this is fine.

Question: What if you are hyper mobile in your hips and hamstrings and it takes a lot to feel your hamstrings pulling?
Maybe train Romanian deadlifts with decent weight and focus on slow eccentric motion (i.e. slow lowering of the weight) under load for 8-10 reps / set. but what about hips shooting up with low hip position in the clean or snatch where hips need to be lower, how to fix that problem??
They Live We See maybe we can do a video with Fernando Reis on this soon, he just joined our coaching staff.
I always heard that quote from music teachers. Learn the rules before you break them!
It's a great line!
I've always wondered what back position is most optimal and safe I guess. I've seen videos where people have really rounded backs and they are lifting a bunch of weight lol idk is that ok ?

TIP.. If you use white text with black outline it will be easy to read regardless of background.
How do you triple like a video?
Great info but did you really call Chubs Pop? Haha
Colin Embry oof
Great vid Stef, you look a lot smaller here tho
Never had a Canadian call me his baby lol
Hayden just sounds better when he says my babies
oh yeah he loves that little tappie tap,,lol
4:46 There are not good Shoes for Deadlift.
Nice hat hehe
Turning the feet out also helps flex the butt at the top...like your holding a crap in
Informative, but not enough Stephi
Where is Hayden from? Canada right?
Linh Huynh Toronto, Canada.
@@haydenbowe4610 I heard the accent :))
Anyone else notice he called Chubs Pop?

im so, so, so... happy that "whats up my babies." stuck.
9:59
Learn the rules? Just so you can break them? Naughty.
It was Chubbs not Pop. Awesome video though
It feels wrong when Hayden calls us babies 🤔
That intro was creepy unless the girl says it
“Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.”
Pablo Picasso
His name is Chubbs man. Come on lol
Nathan Kaintz as someone who prides himself on knowing his pop culture that is a shameful mistake. Haha
@@haydenbowe4610 We all make mistakes man. Seriously though, I learned a lot from the video. Thank you 🤙
abooot
you are not our Mom Lol
Hayden calling us his babies just doesn’t hit the same 😔
Jeremiah Christich I did my best to make it feel like Stefi never left, haha.
Hayden Bowe It was a valiant effort, my guy.. very conventional. Haha
Don't call me baby.
shouldve went with the crappy latina accent on the intro
wouldve been hillarious
