- USC football used to be a powerhouse program, but in the 2010s they fell on hard times. After the hiring of Lincoln Riley, the Trojans are on pace to make the playoff, are fun to watch and could be back to their glory days soon. Today, I am going to talk about the rise of the Trojans, enjoy!
What has led to the rise of the USC program?
As a fan, I can tell you that this was ALL brandon Sosna and Mike Bohn for getting our guy in the first place and setting the precendent. Bohn was quick to pull the trigger on clay helton after only 2 games and sacrifice an entire season in order to MAKE SURE Lincoln was gonna come here
NIL legalizing pay-to-win college football, as shown with their Unlimited Supply of Cash(USC).

USC has intentionally resisted NIL collectives where billionaire alums and boosters hand out pay to play money as USC admin anticipates NIL governing bodies to retroactively penalize other schools like Miami, Oregon, Louisville, Tennessee (schools truly handing out bags of cash to 5 star recruits) once they realize how out of hand it’s getting Instead. USC has opted to utilize a 3rd party NIL option: BLVD LLC- an agency and media company exclusively serving USC athletes in their search of partnering with businesses. Students are then able to truly take advantage of their name image and likeness through hard work, on field performance to sign deals with local and national brands. So no they’re not buying recruits as you say.
@@JohnSmith-mt3wf Yet, Georgia has 12 players under NIL deals followed by Alabama and Ohio State. Comparatively, SC has only 5 players with NIL deals along with Texas, Texas A&M and Clemson.

Yup, everyone who's bitching is acting like fans think they should be a lock for the CFP championship. When in reality us fans are just happy the team has a clear top coach. Who is a monster recruiter similar to Pete. Yes the current SC defense isn't really good or that consistent & it's actually the offense & the crazy pressure they put on other teams offense to basically play a perfect game. That's a lot of pressure on any offense & QB idc what coach/team there is on the other side. Caleb has 2 INTs the entire season! The game Saturday is the perfect example of how much that means for not just the offense but the 😊defense as well.

For those who dont watch USC, i wanna fill in some blanks. The reason Gary Bryant isnt playing is because hes redshirted. The defense has a bunch of pretty damn good ball players, its just i dont think they know the scheme fully since its the first year and they force literally the most turnovers ive seen in a long while. Bryson Shaw, Mekhi Blackmon, Calen Bullock, Tuli, Shane, Gentry, and if he picks it up after what happened last game, Korey Foreman are all studs on the defensive side. The defense is either a 3 and out, Int, or 3 plays and the other team scores.
there is very very good talent on the bench for the defense too that hopefully we see a lot of next year, and its really unforuntate bryant redshirted, I think he wouldve made this offense a lot more dynamic

Then he either took our best players or they left. So we had TBOW’s scraps to try to win with. There’s no way usc will rank higher in the recruiting this year considering we are at fourth or fifth depending on where you work. Do you really think we’re done recruiting? You should do a video on Oklahoma fans spitting mad hate at Lincoln Riley this off-season. All over SC chat boards they were calling him a horrible coach and “glad they got rid of him”. Some of those fans (not all, OU fans are generally good peeps) were so vicious and delusional that it stopped being funny at some point and just kind became sad and embarrassing. I wish there was a way to track down those keyboard cowboys from this last off-season and see what they have to say now. I’m a diehard SC fan but I’d love to see Venables bounce back next season and get OU back on the trajectory they had when LFR was running that program.

As an oklahoma fan Riley is a great offensive minded coach but that is all. His defense is trash until he fixes that it will still be track meet games verse good teams. Now I'm surprised they are 10-1 I expected a 9-3 season. So congrats to quick turnaround for the program.

I give USC maybe another season before we are playoff ready. We need to lock down SoCal recruiting again and make sure the rest of the PAC get the left overs like it was with John Robinson and Pete Carroll.
I don’t think USC will lock down Cal for recruiting, Oregon has a bunch of good recruiters too but it will be between those schools everytime tbh

Oregon taking fewer portal players is a result of starting with a more talented roster after years of mismanagement with Helton. Riley cleaned house last off season and used the portal this season and likely the next to fill those holes. Thereafter, I doubt they hit the portal as hard except for DT and maybe OT which are harder to recruit out west
This season has already unequivocally been a success. We went 4-8 last season. Obviously we wanna make a playoff push, but 10-1, going to the PAC 12 conference championship game, and win in the Rose Bowl against UCLA is ideal. Not to mention we’re doing much better in recruiting. ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼

The problem with these kinds of videos is the ignorance of the producer. They do this 10,000 ft look down at a program from just 'liking' college football and they don't know any local knowledge. The glaring ommission of why USC lost to Utah is a great example. It isn't even mentioned in passing the the well-known ineptitude of PAC-12 officials cost SC AT LEAST 14 points and could be as high as 21 points with totally bogus calls. Two 'roughing the passer' calls were so bad that both the announcers were strident in saying that they were the worst calls seen in recent memory and made no sense. Yet, playing on the road, SC still led til the end only losing on a 2pt conversion. The 3rd touchdown was probably taken away from SC when a receiver caught the ball, turned up the field, and recovered his own fumble. The officials inexplicably said he didn't have poscession long enough. Yet, on a crossing pattern, he cleanly caught the pass (did not bobble or juggle it), turned up field, and taken at least two steps. Atrocious call. The calls were so bad for USC the entire game that it was openly discussed if there was bias against the Trojans because of their going to the B1G.
You should mail your comment to the CFB Playoff Committee in case they struggle to jump USC over LSU and into the Final Four‼️
Caleb Williams has uncanny escapability, you can't coach that.He has exceded my expectations immensely.But the success of the team is great play calling,and a head coach that players believe in 100%..that's the real difference, just like Pete..Fight On!

Glad to see USC coming back. All colleges and universities that play football should have to have a standard for their schools in which all football athletes should have to take and pass certain classes or they don't play. This would level the playing field and make things a little more equal. As it is, as we all know, that is not the case and most players take no meaningful classes and are only waiting to go pro.
Since you mention USC, it seems you feel athletes at USC do not have to fulfill your suggested requirements. If so, then what is your evidence for your claims about athletes as students? As a non-athlete student at USC, I lived with student athletes and shared classes with them. They had to study, write research papers, and take exams like everybody else. The data show that at many schools, including USC, athletes are graduated at equal or higher rates than non-athletes. Also, feel free to scroll through the bios of the athletes on USC’s website and note their majors. Most even have double majors, just like most undergrad students at USC. Also, there are no “meaningless” classes or degree programs at USC. Also, many athletes manage to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in just 5 years instead of the usual 6. I believe your opinion is based upon myth and stereotype at best. Check the facts. Credible reports and studies are easy to find.

LR put on a clinic on how to quickly rebuild a team in 1 season. It started with 2 Heisman candidates WR J. Addison and QB Caleb Williams. Then he brought in a boatload of starters off other teams. T. Dye, A. Jones, T. Bynum, M. Williams LB, Eric Gentry, CB M. Blackmon. Then he filled in the gaps and hit HR's with LB Shane Lee, B. Haskins. Like of hate the guy. What he did was epic. Very Urban Meyer like. USC lone loss was to a ranked Utah by 1 pt.

A cool video to watch you do is the rise of south Alabama football. I’m a hometown fan watching them since the program started and to go from no winning seasons to a 10-2 record at this point is just insane.
Pete Carroll won Two National Titles in 2004 and 2005. Played for a 3rd in 2006. AP Still recognizes USC's National Titles and the BCS has been dead and Gone for years now.
Technically its the 03 season when they split the title with LSU. And 04 when they won it out right vs Oklahoma in the Orange bowl, and lost in 05 the Rose Bowl to Texas. The New Years Bowl were played in 04, 05, & 06 but the National titles were recognized in the 03 & 04 respective seasons. Its weird i know

brother your info is off when it comes to the pinnacle of USC football in the early 2000's. you can point out all the bad to overshadow the star power there teams possessed, that brought people like Kim K to see what the hype was about.
Stanford was a fast start with a slow middle. USC had no 3rd downs until the last drive of the half.
I think the offense is doing what it's supposed to do..We do need help on defense..I do know our interceptions is top in college..but some teams can just March down the field on us ...NOT GOOD .Our corner backs don't play tight enough to make crucial stops on 3rd and mid to long
grinch plays soft defense but aside from that on the defensive side of the ball USC lacks ATHLETES in the front 7 and in the secondary, now most of that is because the coaching staff did not get time for a proper recruiting cycle, expect this defense to get a lot better over the next few years even with grinch still as dc, hopefully lincoln sees that hes not the right fit tho

Between 2010 & 2012, USC was given the death sentence from the NCAA's infraction committee headed by the crooked Paul Dee. SC had a two year bowl ban and a loss of 30 scholorships in that three year period. This decimated SC. SC to this day is basically still trying to recover from those horrendous & unfair sanctions. In my opinion, SC was given such a harsh sentence, was because SC was kicking everyone's butt from the SEC, ACC to the Big 10, and the powers to be had to put a stop to it. Other football programs have committed violations worse since then, and not given as harsh of sentence as SC was given. But hopefully SC is back to their winning ways, and as a result Lincoln Riley can start to recruit and keep the best high school recruits in the nation from SC's own backyard in Southern CA. like Pete Carroll used to. USC used the transfer portal to their advantage this season as Lincoln Riley is lucky Caleb Williams joined him to Southern Cal. Their transfers became the perfect storm of talent that "purist" coaches like Saban and Swinney may have to change their views of just relying on freshman growing into starting roles by their junior years.

USC has all the problems that OU had the past 5 years. Horrible defense with a Heisman level QB masking all the team's flaws. Sure USC has had success in year one, how can you not with Caleb Williams in a weaker conference? When Riley gets to a bowl game or plays a team that's physical, he will lose.
OU fans are still glad he's gone despite the 6 - 5 record. With all that we had left after the mass exodus of players, realistically we were looking at a rebuild year. OU will be better for the long haul not the short term.
Not really sure you can call the PAC 12 a weaker conference this season. Look at the head to head matchups. Alabama lost to LSU. LSU lost to Florida St. Florida St lost to Clemson. Clemson got destroyed by Notre Dame and Notre Dame lost to Stanford, who are the last place team in the PAC 12. You could make an argument that the PAC 12 is up there with the SEC this season. The PAC 12 definitely isn't weaker than the BIG 12 this season, after all it has 6 teams in the top 25, while the BIG 12 has 3.

They got a bunch of transfers and play in a week conference what did you expect was going to happen? Meanwhile Georgia didn’t take a single transfer and is doing it off of coaching and talent alone. That’s what’s really impressive.
I don’t think the conference with half their teams ranked this season is by any means a “weak” one.
USC offense is way better and can outscore Georgia, now if our defense can create turnovers like we been doing all year It will be a 4qtr game ✌🏽

Just would like Riley to not consistently blow up at least half dozen plays every game because he's compelled to wait to the last second with finalizing a play. Caleb is obviously sick of it. And rightfully so. Same thing every game. Delay of game, inappropriate burning of time outs and if neither of those then just a shit show play because it's hurried and it lets the defense fire with near perfect timing. All because he thinks he can force D coordinator to commit and it will afford an advantage. A stupid game of chicken. That he can't help but always play it instead of finding other approaches says a lot. He's one dimensional. With upwards of ten percent of plays getting blown up by this nonsense, any result good outcomes are wholly offset by the bad ones. One or two times is all he should allow himself. After two fuck ups, he should hold himself accountable and stop with the dubious (costly) approach. Odds are high this will be the proximate cause of any upcoming loss. Well...setting aside the shit show on the other side of ball. That will be the primary reason. The play call fiasco will be the straw that breaks the back.

@@proplayer2010 Since I out earn him by a considerable amount...and I have zero blemishes on my resume of multiple blown plays ten games in a row...I'm undoubtedly a genius. No one who is smart about the game would dispute this valid critique... irrespective of wages...or record. That's not the way to handle a glaring problem. And when your QB gets as animated as Caleb did last game, it needs correcting. Make no mistake, it's Caleb's uncanny ability to improvise on busted plays that has lifted SC. Far from anything to do with the (incessantly late) plays called by Riley. I'd be willing to cut him some slack if he was outright winning a good chunk of games. Instead, they live on the edge (except Colorado, Rice...Utah). All slop on the offensive side needs to be cleaned up. Because that's their only hope. Needless to say, Riley hasn't earned a damn dime on the defensive side. I thought it was just some ironing out that would get resolved after the first few games. Instead, it's as bad or worse now. It's really is ridiculous. Especially given how good Caleb is with backyard football.

Super weak non-conference opponents and they did not have to play Oregon or Washington. Only tough opponents were UCLA and Utah and they went 1-1. Not saying they aren't good. Just hard to tell. Notre Dame is decent. They have played better the second half of the season. USC needs to schedule an Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, or Oklahoma. Oregon and Utah at least had the guts to take on the SEC. They paid for it but respect to them.
Utah should’ve had that game against Florida. I think Utah wins that game 8 or 9 times out of 10.
Why is the Utah game always brought up as if they were blown out? USC went blow for blow with Utah and that was before Caleb caught fire too. Had there been more time SC would’ve marched down and scored on the mighty Utes…

They’ve only barely beaten two of the three ranked teams they’ve faced and it’s not like they’ve been battling real top 10 teams either. For those who dont know, LR intentionally left coach Roy manning at OU to tell players to leave and recruits not to come. He tried to recruit them to USC while on OU's payroll as coach. This is all per instruction from LR. He succeeded and OU lost a lot of recruits and players transferred out. When he got caught he was immediately fired and immediately hired by LR since he did what LR said. Pretty sure this was NCAA violation but he got off scott free. This is in addition to the crap LR pulled that is common knowledge. THIS is why Sooner nation is so butt hurt.

This is not going to be an easy game for USC. They’ve struggled against every ranked team they’ve played and even lost one of those games. USC is perhaps the most overrated 1 loss team in the country and are just benefiting from big name bias.
ND were very much overranked to begin the season, and the inexcusable losses to marshall and stanford can't be forgotten. That said, the same team still beat syracuse (Before they completely collapsed), UNC, and are clemson's only blemish thus far. It's an odd yr
