      i bought myy ibanez 7 string for 90$ mint condition from a pawn shop, and it rips. you dont have to spend that kind of cash to get into extended range, from a company you never heard of. hell harley benton makes one for 150$ and its fine enough

    • @southernpanda33

      @@thehyena1636 no, I’m left handed. How hard is that to get? If you want to go that route, fine. I AM different. For instance, I don’t buy picks. I make them out of wood and stone. I don’t generally buy my guitars, I buy the materials from StewMac and Warmoth and build them to my specifications. So yes, I am different because you probably don’t have 20 years of woodworking experience to fall back on.

    You talked about dialing in a 7 string sound so i wanna give you a few tips that i use. One, you don't need a ton of bass, the lower string will get really flubby with too much. Two, mids (specifically high mids) are your best friend for proper tone shaping. I have a ton of high mids on my 8 string tone and it sounds great. Three, treble is just as good for tone shaping as the high mids, play around with it. Four, overdrives are your best friend, use them

    • @sixstringtv1
      @sixstringtv1  5 місяців тому +1

      I was definitely aware of the low bass thing, I've come to learn that over time whenever I've picked up an 8 string at a store or whatever hahah. Cheers!

    If only I had longer fingers I could play a 7 string

    • @matthewbehrle4428
      @matthewbehrle4428 5 місяців тому +1

      Honestly, you don’t need long fingers or big hands to play extended range guitars! The biggest difficulty with ERGs is the scale length and honestly unless you’re trying to play something like an M80M or a Schecter Damien Platinum 9 string most ERGs will have a 28 inch scale or shorter.
      Most 7 strings range from 25.5 to 27 and that’s a negligible increase from a standard 6 string. After about 28” you may start to notice it but even then it’s a VERY minor increase and if you’ve played bass at all you’ll feel very comfortable on a 28, 29, or 30 inch scale guitar.
      Honestly, I’d just go to a local guitar center and sit with one in for about 10 minutes, Schecter, ESP, and Jackson make some great guitars and anything that’s more modern will be perfect! 99% of the time those brands 7 strings will be 26.5 inches or 27 inches and they feel pretty comparable to playing something like a Strat.

    • @Metal-lz8td
      @Metal-lz8td 5 місяців тому

      The biggest reason I like 7 strings is because I have long spindly fingers and they're just more comfortable for me to play lol. But at the end of the day there are only 12 notes and only so far down you can go in register before you're actually playing a bass, so just play what is comfortable you you

    "How to dial a tone for 7-strings". This is what I do. A Klon/Precision Drive-style overdrive as a boost up front with some gain, do not add too much gain on a high-gain amp (~at 3 on the Revv Generator 120 Red Channel), cut bass and boost mids on the amp, EQ to taste depending on the cab. Glenn Fricker might disagree, but V30's and Greenbacks are fail-proof staples.

    • @sixstringtv1
      @sixstringtv1  5 місяців тому +1

      What a coincidence, my Marshall is retrofitted with Greenbacks and V30s 😏
      I know in THEORY how to dial in a decent sound for extended range, but it just always ends up kinda sucking hahah

    • @cellarcatband
      @cellarcatband 5 місяців тому

      @@sixstringtv1 A general rule for a good djenty ERG tone is "use less amp gain than you think you need" :) Me and our band's main guitarist recently bought 8-string guitars. Was a bit of a challenge to make the 8th string sound good on my regular presets. Good luck with your tone chasing!

      @@cellarcatband Best advice you can give. Once it's in a mix, the less gain, the better, and the more powerful it will sound. Achieving consistent pinch harmonics can really be a struggle with this amount of gain though.

    Highly suggest trying out John Brownes tunings for 7 string. A# F A# D# F A# D#. Basically open A#. He also drops the low A# to G# for some songs too. 7 strings are so much fun. Opens up a whole new world of possibilities to the point where I prefer to just play a 7.
