Thanks for putting this together. This is the same stuff KUSA was selling under their brand name. On my testing at 5200 feet altitude at 95°F I was getting velocities consistent with yours (2317~2447 FPS) and the accuracy was just as lousy out of a 16" Arsenal. It was 100% reliable and it's good long-term storage ammo. Decent "minute of man" accuracy. Keep up the great content.
Thanks for watching and for mentioning your experience with it too. Cool to hear you got pretty similar results, though also a shame the ammo doesn't do better.
@cheech9283 No, I never did. However, if I do, I will consider it as corrosive ammunition and clean accordingly after my shooting session. I have no issue at all with shooting corrosive ammunition.
Interesting test. Ive been considering purchasing some of this ammo. Ive still got some Silver Bear in my stash & its been very accurate. I enjoyed your test video and also like the style camo you're wearing in the testing. Thanks for taking the time to make your informative video.
Thanks for putting this together. I kept looking for reviews on it and couldn't find any so I bought a case a month or 2 ago. Oh well I guess I'll just have to blast through it.
@@Feldmutze so I cruised through reddit and someone said the first batches in March had QC issues and later made stuff has been solid. Not sure if that applies here.
Good to know. I'm biased as I only have a small sample size of the ammo I tried, but if others are reporting QC issues then there's probably some out there. Hopefully the newer TelaAmmo actually has fixed the QC problems you mentioned now.
Yeah, I think I'll pass on this stuff.. My PSA with the FN CHF barrel and Barnaul ammo shoots about a 2 MOA with glass. Only problem, the Barnaul ammo is getting hard to find. I will not buy this stuff. I wouldnt even call it range ammo. Thanks for the video, you saved me some $$$$$. Thumbs Up!!
Buffman range recently did a test to see if this ammo was corrosive and by the test he did it was. have you had any problems with corrosion after this?
I haven't had any problems with corrosion after shooting this ammo and I didn't clean the rifle for several months after doing this video. Thanks for mentioning that test Buffman did, though, as I wasn't aware of it until now and that's really good to know at least as a precaution.
i bought a cases of this when it was still labeled as “kalashnikov usa” (would of bought something else but it was drastically cheaper then any other x39 at the time) but it works, haven’t had any issues definitely a bit dirtier then say wolf but I’ve ran into no issues and seems to be “accurate enough” for range use
I got some of this ammo and with my Zastava m70 i was able to get 2 moa at 100 yards with a 3x primary arms microprism. Using the same ammo on the same day eith my arsenal sam7f-62 i got about 4-5 moa with the same microprism. Different aks definitely like different ammo. I get generally poor accuracy with brass norma. I was happy with this stuff. It definitely had more recoil than the brass norma too.
Totally typical for a stamped receiver AK, you need to find which ammo your rifle likes. However, the Tela will hit a torso @ 100 yards. If your trying for the tightest groups start with a milled receiver AK as they can do as good as 2" @100 yards.
That is not "3P" - "ЗП" mark in Russian stands for "Забракованные Патроны" or "Blemished/Rejected Ammo". This is why you are getting bad results with ЗП ammo.
@@Feldmutze the only two other options for "ЗП" could be запасные патроны (reserve ammo) or заводская проверка (factory checked) but I think it is most likely забракованные патроны (blemished ammo).

I’ve been having ammo issue where I’m getting light strikes very often now. It’s like the primers are seated too deep. That’s between vympel, some Barnaul, and wolf
If you're having issues with that many different types of ammo, it's more than likely there's an issue with your rifle itself. I'd check your firing pin for obstructions or damage. I had the same issue with this rifle a year or so ago and the firing pin had cracked in half and needed replacing.
So with the video and the comments it seems the ammo itself not just a few bad lots are not consistent. I was thinking of a 545 build since tela told me it should be dropping mid November but if it's 6+ MOA I'll just get a RD nato ak and go 556.
Unfortunately it's not a good time to get into 5.45 so I think going 5.56 would be a much better option. I'll be testing Tela 5.45 when it comes out, but imo even if it fares better, it'd be a better idea to not have to be reliant on 1 manufacturer for all your ammo in case imports dry up again.
My thought process exactly. Azerbaijan just doesn't seem like a reliable source long term anyway. Tired of riding the import roller coaster of here one day gone the next. If a manufacturer inside the US sourcing its own raw materials in the US I'd be more optimistic for 545. Wishful thinking at this point.
Are you referring to the ammo or something else on the rifle? If it's the ammo, I haven't seen any differences from shooting it off-camera and how it fared in this test.
TelaAmmo had some lots that got corrosive primers mixed in. It's not something I ran into myself on the 7.62 x 39 or the 5.45 either, and it does seem like they fixed it on their newest production ammo, but it's definitely something to watch out for.
Man what’s the matter with your rifle I bought a PSA bft and using some old 30 year old wolf ammo at 50 yds it would shoot 3 inch and I thought that was bad.
That's actually slightly worse to what I was getting with Silver Bear. See 9:34. Wolf is just an importer. Depending on the actual manufacturer of the ammo (Tula, Barnaul, Vympel, etc.) it can vary wildly in precision.
The ammo worked correctly here, it's just extremely imprecise. I'm sure Kalashnikov USA was able to shoot >50K rounds and have each of them work without malfunctioning, but the precision is another matter entirely.
Ah shit, I got 1000 rounds of this crap. So much for trying to bargain in bulk. I researched it before I bought it and saw good things. I didn't start seeing the criticisms until afterwards.
How come no one doing ammo tests ever measure for consistency? No shoulder measurements, no seating depth measurements no powder weights. I’ve never seen any ammo tester do that.
It's not a bad idea to do consistency measurements in practice, but in a lot of cases, and especially this TelaAmmo, it's nowhere near precise enough to bother with, and most the inconsistency comes through on target anyway.
@@Feldmutze but to understand the inconsistencies on target wouldn’t it be in good faith to explain why that happens? I’m not calling you out in anyway. It’s just something I noticed that can educate people on why ammo is good or bad and why the ammo is far more important than people actually think. I think it would greatly benefit those who don’t reload. It would also separate your channel from the rest.
I can see that. I don't think I'd do that in every ammo test for the sake of brevity since these can have a lot going on in them already, but you brought up good points and I'm heavily considering doing an in-depth explanation of it once in a standalone video that I can reference whenever I do future ammo tests.
The way I always look at AK it’s like ok I’m not trying to win a marksmanship badge with it,, but it’s reliable and I can hit a target 🎯 with effectiveness out to what 300-400 yards,,and Azerbaijan holds a Formula one race every year so they at least have some money in the country…
I can see that. The AK isn't a tack driver but usually has adequate accuracy. This TelaAmmo, however, being 7.3 MOA, is way larger than a torso-sized target at 300 - 400 yards though.
Velocity is good but the accuracy in this AK is terrible. I own Polish and Chinese AK's and have owned many, many others from Romania, China (in both milled and stamped recievers), Polish, USA and Egypt. The best would shoot 1.75 MOA and all but 1 would shoot 3 - 4 MOA with most any given load. The exception was the Chinese milled reciever AK that had an oversized bore and would not stay on a 5 galon bucket at 50 yards regardless of the ammo chosen
That's a good point, I'll think about doing that. I have the channel name as "Feldmutze" currently since most English-speaking people type it that way, even though it is incorrect. Shoot thru my zastava m70 so it pretty much chews up any ammo but wasn't sure about this but my ffl said they have not had any complaints so I told them I would run 200 rounds thru my AK and let them know. So I switched between wolf classic and telaammo to make sure cycling both went back in fourth shot 400 rounds and not one malfunction and wherever I sent it the ammo went just smell real bad after 200 rounds of it and 200 rounds of wolf. I was happy to be surprised did not expect to cycle ever round and be that on target.
Are you sure you're measuring that MOA correctly? I've NEVER heard of or seen any AK shooting sub-MOA with any ammo, and even 1 MOA sounds like a stretch.
@Feldmutze Yes sending the ammo thru the same hole or close to it have not stretched it out 200 300 yards yet with ammo have to set appointment to use range but will be stretching it out within next 2 weeks ordering some more telaammo and see how it is longer range. So shooting 50 to 100 yards so far using vortex spark solar with zastava m70 and putting rounds right thru same hole or within half moa or 1 moa. Only bought 200 rounds to test out ammo and used 200 rounds wolf classic shot 400 rounds and rapid fire spread out more on target but still center mass unless I moved it myself. When shooting with a purpose was able to send rounds thru the same hole. Put apple size hole in paper target shooting thru the heart was very accurate. See what happens when I stretch it out more.
