  • Jerry and I are back at it again! This time, we're fat bikepacking the southern tier of the Oregon Coast Trail-from Yachats to Port Orford. In late May of 2023, we rode the northern tier. Now, in late September, we're continuing on where we left off.
The Oregon Coast Trail (OCT) traverses the majestic 362 miles of Oregon coastline, between the north and south borders. Many thru-hikers will backpack the OCT, while swarms of cycle tourists can often be seen riding along the Oregon Coast Bike Route (OCBR) that follows Highway 101 and alternative side roads.
Fat bikes are an awesome way to explore the Oregon Coast. We mixed up our adventure, doing sections of the OCT (especially beaches) when possible, then taking the OCBR when bikes weren't permitted or the tide was too high to pass. We checked tide maps to time our rides with low tide (and stay away from cars) as much as possible.
This video is the resulting GoPro footage from our 5-day tour. Hopefully this inspires you to get out on your own wild ride sometime soon. Join the party-like, subscribe, and chill!

Hey, I built one of those benches at the BLM campsite! Glad it survived and you got to enjoy it, too. Thanks for the video.

Glad to know about the closed beach given the bird breeding and that restriction until post Sept 15th. RidewithGPS routes saved for the future. Thanks for sharing!

That was a lot of fun cycling along the coastline, beautiful scenery and great weather. Definitely a good way to bike together with a friend. Cheers.

Wed. 10-4-23. I was out running some errands this AM and my journey took me past Mingus Park. Made me think of you and wondered when the next video would appear. Got home, fixed some lunch, and turned on my computer to look at UA-cam. And just like that... there you are! Nice one! Looking forward to more.

Still dont understand why horses are allowed during plover season and bicycles are not?!!???
Btw:Peters spicy cranberry marmelade is sooo good!

I know! For a public route, we wanted to make sure we followed the state guidelines. Some locals told us we should be fine riding the wet sand, but I've read otherwise during plover season. Luckily, this was still a great sunny window in the season to ride! Maybe things will change in the future, as fat bikes and beach riding become more commonplace. We downed those bottles of cranberry juice so fast!! lol

Yeah your title is all wrong Oregon is nowhere near the Southern tier the Southern tier is from St Augustine Florida to San Diego California nowhere near Oregon if you're going to print stuff or show UA-cam videos at least get your titles right

Hey Scott, this ride/route is about the "southern tier" of the Oregon Coast Trail (OCT), referring to the southern section. Sorry you found that confusing. The thumbnail and title clearly state the Oregon Coast.
