Bikepacking Mount Shasta | California
The Shasta Siskiyou Loop is a bikepacking route in Northern California, based on the classic "Mount Shasta Loop" that has been well-traveled by local adventure cyclists. The loop circumnavigates the base of Mt. Shasta, using extensive forest roads and shoulders along railroad tracks. I revised the old route to include mountain bike trails in Mount Shasta and also detour through Weed and over to Lake Siskiyou. This made for a fun, multi-day expedition with views of the mountain from every angle.
In early August of 2024, I was joined by adventure buddies-Dominic Zuckswert, Mike Tona, Joe Tona, and Ben Nadeau-to give the loop a go. Growing up in the Shasta Cascade region, I've always loved the nature areas that surround Mt. Shasta and Castle Crags. This part of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest includes volcanic landscapes, beautiful vistas, pristine lakes, and many backcountry camping and trail options. It is surely a gem of Northern California worth highlighting.
This video is the resulting GoPro footage from our 3-day trip. Hopefully this inspires you to get out there to explore it (or your own backyard).

Jerry and I are back at it again! This time, we're fat bikepacking the southern tier of the Oregon Coast Trail-from Yachats to Port Orford. In late May of 2023, we rode the northern tier. Now, in late September, we're continuing on where we left off. The Oregon Coast Trail (OCT) traverses the majestic 362 miles of Oregon coastline, between the north and south borders. Great video. Definitely on my bucketblist. Thanks for the video and link to route. At what tire pressure did you use for ridding on sand and on hwy?

    • @BikeCampChill
      @BikeCampChill 2 місяці тому

      Hey Joel, glad you enjoyed the video. We usually had our psi set from 6-10. Lower when in sand and higher when on pavement. Usually ended up around 8 if we didn’t want to adjust it much on a mixed day. Also depends on the tire size and tread. You definitely get a feel for it after a bit on what works best. Even the sand density and texture changed along the way.

      Hey there, these are not e-bikes. We rode with good old-fashioned human power. There were many people along the way that thought we were riding electric as well. We do usually charge up a few power banks to bring and charge our phones and other electronics though.

      Good question. There are many signs saying “no motorized vehicles” so it depends on how they classify e-bikes in various areas. We do pass many towns where you could get a hotel room to charge each night. Have fun with it! Thanks for watching.
