Saw these guys in Germany in '72. This was taped in the Royal Albert Hall. Sold out at over 5400 seats. Sadly, this was one of the last few live performances for Ray Thomas (flute). He died a year or so after this performance. The drummer, Graeme Edge, has sadly passed as well, leaving only two of the original members still in the group. Justin Hayward (vocals) and John Lodge (bass). 50+ years together...remarkable.
His name is Justin Hayward and he is closing in on 80 years old. He wrote this song when he was 19 years old. Continue to explore and experience the moody blues. They are one of the most significant groups of recent history.
He still sounds great but Justin Hayward this is quite possibly the weakest I've heard him sing. His voice isn't nearly as powerful as normal. I cannot say I "saw" them, but Moody Blues played with the Vancouver Symphony outdoors at Nat Bailey baseball stadium in Vancouver BC. We sat on the side of little mountain across the street. The stage was in centre field facing the seats behind home plate facing away from us so you couldn't see the stage at all. We heard it perfectly fine and it was a great show. They were then banned from playing at Bailey again because Moody Blues and the Vancouver Symphony... were too loud.
Justin wrote this song when he was 19 to a girl he adored from afar. Someone told her a few years later it was about her. She asked him if it was true. They got married. They're still married.
When a singer professes his love for his woman, he generally does it quietly, even a whisper. What makes this so powerful is he shouts it out at the top of his lungs.l....She's gonna get it.
Donatelo.... you know your named after a turtle right...... what the he'll does who you voted for have anything to do with this song? Back in your shell sis
The singers name is Justin Hayward, and he wrote the song when he was 17 years old and recorded it with the Moody Blues when he was 19, you should check out Forever Autumn a song by Justin Hayward from the musical version of War of The Worlds by Jeff Wayne it's beautiful
The song Forever Autumn is special to me. My wife and I (both big Moody Blues fans) would often go for really long walks in the woods here in the central California Coast . We were married for 25 years but together for 30. The only girl I ever Kissed. She passed away from Pancreatic Cancer back in 2009. Those leaves lay undisturbed now, because she's not here.
@@MatthewPettyST1300 sorry for your loss, she sounds like a very special person. The power and beauty of music is it can evoke memories that keep our loved ones alive in our hearts forever.
The voice, the melody, the lyrics. What a masterpiece. This is a prime example of the power of great music. Justin Hayward, who wrote this and is singing, really hit it out of the park with this song.
The original recording was long before this video, and his voice was just as beautiful back then. What's amazing is that with time he just got better. Please check out their other incredible, ground-breaking (for the time) music. Great reaction, you guys!
I'm 31 years old, I was raised on this music. My dad and I have seen the Moody Blues live at least 5 or 6 times. They are the most underrated classic rock band of all time.
This song was unique i think in that Rock music was melded with a full orchestra (on purpose that is!). The Moody Blues were innovative - and Justin Hayward was gorgeous!!! oh, and he can sing!!!!
I grew up in the 90's and my dad was a big fan of MB - we listened to them a lot. Justin Hayward was my first crush, when I was probably as young as 6. I was really confused and a bit disappointed when I left homeschool for public school at age 9 and found out all my age peers were insane about Justin Timberlake and the Backstreet Boys. They'd picked the wrong Justin and I knew it, even if they didn't.
Actually, there was no orchestra on the album. The "BBC Festival Orchestra" never existed. The record complany didn't think people would believe it was all done on the Melotron, so they made it up. Made a great legend, however and it has since come true in some of their live performance.
The power of music, all of a sudden these aren't just old men, they're god's, angels of sound on stage sharing their beauty with the world. No matter what age or Creed, everyone stops to bask in the glow of these men's brilliance. Listen to procol harum playing whiter shade of pale live as an old man for a similar experience
Saw them in 1968 at the Eagles auditorium do their first album. We all went crazy loud in cheering them, screaming more, more. The singer told us thanks, then said no one has ever cheered for us as we did. Then he said they had no other music to play for us. So he said they would play their set again, they did. No recording ever equals their life sounds.
Had the pleasure of seeing the Moody Blues twice in my life. They never disappointed and put on a great show. Nice reaction to one of the best songs ever. Good choice.
you know this is a masterpiece and you're taking all the enjoyment and great sensation out of it when you keep stopping it to give your thoughts or whatever on it! I stopped watching after the third or fourth time you interfered with it! I don't understand why you so-called 'music lovers' do this?!?
This is from the concert at Royal Albert Hall and the whole thing is just phenomenal - if you get a chance to see it - they are timeless, some of the best.
This is a brilliantly romantic song. I got to see them in concert in the' 90s. I was in like the 12th row. They came with a full orchestra. They sounded fabulous! When they performed Nights in White Satin it was beyond reality.
Justin was around 60 for this performance. The music was around 40 years old. This version is missing a spoken part at the very end. Breathe deep the gathering gloom, Watch lights fade from every room. Bedsitter people look back and lament, Another day's useless energy spent. Impassioned lovers wrestle as one, Lonely man cries for love and has none. New mother picks up and suckles her son, Senior citizens wish they were young. This song has been my favorite song since the first time I first heard it in the mid 70's when I was a teenager. I haven't seen anyone that glistened to this song that didn't think it was amazing. I'm glad newer generations can enjoy a song from many generations past.
I was super young when I heard this song for the first time. I could hear the depth and longing for love in the music. Its also one of the songs that made me fall in love with the written word.
Bob, I think you mean the 60s & 70s and they put out a few songs in the 80s also. Though one of best groups of all time, I don't think they qualify as a super group or at least the current definition of a super group which is members are already successful as solo artists or as part of other groups or well known in other musical professions then form a group such as the Traveling Wilburys where each member was already famous before forming this super group. The members of The Moody Blues were not famous before starting the Moody Blues though Justin Heyward did a few solo projects while still in the Moody Blues.
Master musicians playing a masterpiece of a song. I've seen the Moody Blues in concert several times-sadly, I never will again, so I'm thankful for these videos.
There is a lot of enjoyment in learning about great musical groups from day's gone by. That's the fun for myself, but people my age lived through it all personally. It never gets old for me even listening to music for over 63 years old. It keeps me young in my heart and mind, even when my body argues with me now. Hahaha
The Moody Blues are so great, plz react to their 80’s hit “your wildest dreams” its way different than their early stuff, but a classic in its own right. Also “go now” is an awesome one from them in the early days. Love your reactions 💗👍🏽
You really should listen to the Full Studio Version. This was an excellent live performance without a doubt but, it was not the full version of this song.
I saw these guys live in 1983. Stevie Ray Vauhan opened for them. It was the greatest show I ever saw. The Moody Blues had an entire orchestra behind them on stage, and Stevie Ray sat at the edge of the stage with his legs hanging over and he said, "I'm gonna play this guitar for you now.", and did he ever. BTW Nights in White Satin as in white satin sheets.
You gotta love that as a bunch of guys in their mid 70's sound just as good now as when they first came on the scene in the 60's... Epic sound without Auto tune or beat boxes....
The Moody Blues were a very innovative band from the late 60s and 70s like Pink Floyd,Procol Harem,Led Zeppelin and a few others I came up in the 60s and I wouldn't have missed it for the world love your classic rock reactions
A little extra for you,,,,,the London philharmonic orchestra there were 106 playing in the background at the concert and came from around the world, with 14 different nationalities.
This song still gives me goosebumps after all these years. Justin Hayward has such a gorgeous voice. Please check out Rush The Garden live from their Clockwork Angels tour. It is absolutely beautiful as well. ✌
Another great classic rock group... they were huge in their day...classic rock can not be beat.. sorry you guys missed it, glad you are keeping the music alive for new generations.
And he was a very young man when he first played this song... imagine it... his voice got sweeter with time... elder singers... masters of their craft! I've seen these guys 3 times while in the military, traveling the world, well twice while serving, once while vacationing
Your reaction to this song made me follow you. I'm happy that you have come to love music that is over 50 years old. It was good music to grow up with and still evokes emotional reaction today.
Do yourselves a huge favor. This song is on the album Days of Future's Past. Get a set of headphones for each of you if you don't have them. Get this album. Hit play and and relax for the next 45 minutes or so. You won't be disappointed
When I was 21 I first heard this song while on shrooms and for whatever reason this song to me conveyed the meaning of life. Everything all at once made sense and an overwhelming love surrounded me telling me everything was going to he alright and every thing was exactly how it was meant to be and everything....every second matters more than we can know and that everything that happens to us is all part of a bigger story that's has immense meaning. A truly wonderful experience.
Greatest song of all times by a group that has been around since the 60's. Finally on August 2018 the band was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. TUESDAY AFTERNOON and THE STORY IN YOUR 👀 EYES are also worth a listen, actually that's a small sample of their massive catalog of songs.
I'm 55 When I was five this song was on the radio all the time. That's how much this song stood out. They were of romance mystical and grandeur band. They had many good songs even a popular song from the 80's. Remember when
These 5 musicians could play 35 different instruments between them. This is why their studio recordings sound like they have full orchestra backup. Some of the most talented musicians in a band ever.
This is Justin Haywood vocals, John Lodge on bass, the late Ray Thomas on flute and Graham Edge on drums, this is the Moody Blues with the World Festival Orchestra at Royal Albert Hall 2000
This song is 57 years old. This particular concert was at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2000 with the London Symphony Orchestra. Two of this line-up are sadly no longer with us. Ray Thomas the flautist and drummer Graeme Edge. Vocalist Justin Hayward and bass player John Lodge still perform today.
You don't have to do a react vid to it, but you 2 should sit down one evening and listen to the entire Moody Blues Days of Future Past album. It is truly transcendental.
Baton guy is a conductor. He not only keeps the beat but interprets each aspect of the song - speeds up, slows down, highlights certain instruments, etc. Having said that, I also think I can do his job. 😂
Music performed by brilliant musicians is food for the soul. It brings joy to all who here and seeing someone's reaction which is obviously the reaction of your soul getting such a delicious treat is absolutely awesome!
Always feel that no woman no person, can live up to that passion, for me it belongs to human's Creator and the Creator of music itself! It's beauty and its love, love itself. That feeling put into music like no one's done before or since!
I've seen them in concert, and yes this song is hauntingly beautiful. It was the classic slow dance song since the 60's 70's and on. It's still being played. They have surpassed playing as a group for over 50 years.
I was lucky enough to be at that concert, it was sensational. There were two on consecutive nights, and both were filmed. They were brilliant live ( I’ve seen them more than a hundred times), and their studio recordings were outstanding too. So good to see your honest first reactions. Our old music was special eh? Thanks for sharing
Song originally released the day I was born in 67...earliest memory is mom dancing around with me in kitchen when it would come on the radio...needless to say has always been a treasured song to me.
Who could not love such a song, such a voice, such a group, such a performance? Keep in mind, that this amazing classic is just the ending to their amazing concept album, "Days of Future Passed". The whole album is backed up by the London Symphony Orchestra, and to miss the rest of the album is like watching only the last few minutes of a great movie.
This song was the last track on Days of Future Passed. One of the first (If not the first) rock concept album. Also the first to use a symphony orchestra. In fact, they had trouble finding an orchestra that would do it. This was in 1965. There is a poem on the album as an ending to this song.
As noted below, the singer / guitarist is Justin Hayward - and he's been singing like that since he joined the band in 1966! This performance (might be the 2005 tour?) is *very* close to the original studio recording from 1967!
Great band, and Justin Hayward is a really nice guy met him years ago, he was going to see his mum in hospital and I was dropping my mother off, I was star struck but he was just a normal down to earth guy...fantastic spoke for about 20mins..what a memorable day
Saw these guys back in 1993. Wife and I took our oldest daughter. Beautiful outdoor venue in N.Michigan. They had the entire Boston Philharmonic orchestra with them and it was just an awsome show!!! First time hearing this song 1967, my oldest brother sat me down stuck headphones on me said listen to this! Blew my 7yr.old mind!
Livie, just so you know, the conductor of most orchestras are usually masters of many instruments. The musicians in the orchestra depend on the conductor to oversee the timing of 40-100 musicians all at one time to produce that amazing sound.
Been rocking with the Moody Blues since 1968 and saw them live in concert twice, one in Philly’s Tower Theatre and at Red Rocks, Colorado. Great shows.
Saw these guys in Germany in '72.

That of "beyond" is where that music came from.
The singer is Justin Heyward. He’s led the band since 1967.
It is Hayward and he has not led the band
One of the all time classic songs. The studio version is more haunting but this is an amazing performance.
I like this live version and I've seen The Moody blues perform this song live but I like the long studio version better than the live version

The one with Michael Jackson.
Yes, studio verson is better. For me, i hardly like live performances.
I prefer the studio version because of this same reason but yeah good performance live
Justin wrote this song when he was 19 to a girl he adored from afar. Someone told her a few years later it was about her. She asked him if it was true. They got married. They're still married.

Now that’s true love ❤️. Congratulations to both of them and wishing them many more years together

Justin Hayward's voice is just amazing, like others have said "Forever Autumn" off of The War of the Worlds album is just beautiful.
Loved that Album, nearly every song was great, Richard Burton's narration, fantastic.
Still listen to that album today. Ahead of it's time!

Lonely man cries for love and has none.
New mother picks up and suckles her son,

And which is an illusion?
Pinprick holes in a colourless sky,
Let insipid figures of light pass by,
The mighty light of ten thousand suns,
Challenges infinity and is soon gone.
Night time, to some a brief interlude,
To others the fear of solitude.
Brave Helios wake up your steads,
Bring the warmth the countryside needs.

As great as this was, check out the studio version for yourselves, it’s even better!
What a classic, grew up listening, to the moody blues, still sounding fabulous, never gets old. Love these old classics. Groove on.
Baton guy is a conductor. He not only keeps the beat but interprets each aspect of the song - speeds up, slows down, highlights certain instruments, etc. Having said that, I also think I can do his job. 😂
His name is Larry Baird, and he also wrote all the orchestrations for the live shows since the original music sheets have been lost to time.
Legendary song....haunting but wonderful. In concert they just stop and stare at the orchestra at the end.
Music performed by brilliant musicians is food for the soul. It brings joy to all who here and seeing someone's reaction which is obviously the reaction of your soul getting such a delicious treat is absolutely awesome!
You need to hear the studio full (Long) version.
Justin Hayward, lead vocalist. He wrote this song at the age of 19. Something to aspire to.
Thank you for that. First time seeing it sung live and, i enjoyed watching your vid😊
His name is Justin Heyward, his voice is incredible. More MOODY BLUES. 👽👍
Hayward
Song originally released the day I was born in 67...earliest memory is mom dancing around with me in kitchen when it would come on the radio...needless to say has always been a treasured song to me.
Who could not love such a song, such a voice, such a group, such a performance? Keep in mind, that this amazing classic is just the ending to their amazing concept album, "Days of Future Passed". The whole album is backed up by the London Symphony Orchestra, and to miss the rest of the album is like watching only the last few minutes of a great movie.
The finest love song of all time
This song was the last track on Days of Future Passed.
👍👍
One of my favorites of all time!!! Beautiful.
This was My Mom's favorite song. I was glad I got to take her to see them twice with a full symphony which was amazing.
Love it! Seeing them 20 years ago in a casino in Michigan (front row center) was special! They are so good live.
When this came out, it was about 1974. It put the Moody Blues in the Hall of Fame!
Released in 1967, re-released in 1972 and became a huge hit
I find it amazing that a man of his age can hit those notes but its even more impressive how effortless he makes it
Livie, just so you know, the conductor of most orchestras are usually masters of many instruments.
