If this is your first time listening to The Moody Blues, it doesn't take long to realize they're not your ordinary rock band.....their sound is majestic and classy, yet powerful and passionate!
This live version is soul stirring, however the album version has spoken word poetry at the beginning and end of the song that truly makes it life changing.
Poem is called Late Lament: Breathe deep the gathering gloom, Watch lights fade from every room. Bedsitter people look back and lament, Another day’s useless energy spent. Impassioned lovers wrestle as one, Lonely man cries for love and has none. New mother picks up and suckles her son, Senior citizens wish they were young. Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colours from our sight. Red is grey and yellow white. But we decide which is right. And which is an illusion?
I was 6 when this was released, a favourite of my late father's (played base in a band) Love that younger generations get to listen to the good songs I grew up with.
I grew up listening to this group & they are one of my favorites from the 60's - 80's. They have had so many hit songs. Love their mix of rock with classical music. They have a sound like no other band. The Moody Blues' most successful singles include "Go Now", "Nights In White Satin", "Tuesday Afternoon", "Question", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice", "Your Wildest Dreams", "I'm Just A Singer In A Rock & Roll Band". But all of their music is great. Many of their records are concept albums & meant to be listened to all at once.
He's singing the words "I love you" in an emotionally Broken forlorned Voice! The gentleman singing following a real happening in his life actually wrote this song when he was a teenager which makes it even more impressive as beautiful as it is!! Another great song of theirs called "Tuesday afternoon" should be listened to! A lot of their songs have that Faraway feeling making you really think!
I was playing in a TOP 40 band back then in the 1960's and we could Cover almost anyone's songs but when this came out we just stood and looked at each other and shook our heads - there was no way we could cover this in our little 5 member band . These GUYS were Fantastic back then

Listening to the long version of the song with the spoken-word poem entitled 'Late Lament' written by the drummer Graeme Edge and recited by keyboardist Mike Pinder is worth the wait, which adds to the song substantially.
"Days of Future Past", is one of my favorite albums. This song holds the record for the longest song played on popular radio. Each song on the album is a symphonic movement of each part of a day. "Tuesday Afternoon" is another blockbuster.
Nights in White Satin and Tuesday Afternoon are great stand alone songs from the Days of Future Past album. But they can only be fully appreciated by listening to the whole album from beginning to end. This early "concept album" was released less than 6 months after The Beatles released Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and was not a huge hit at first but kept gaining new fans for decades. It was said back then and is still true today- You dont listen to the Moody Blues- you experience them.
It took a ridiculous amount of time before this mega-talented group was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame. 2018! to be exact! They are all- time greats!
The album from which this was released in 1967's "The Days of Future Passed" which is a concept album released by the Moody Blues in conjunction with the London Festival Orchestra (the "house" orchestra for Decca Records". The concept was to musically divide up one day in the life of an ordinary man. It was a smash and one of the earliest prog rock success stories. It is beautiful as it is timeless.
Goosebumps everytime I hear this song!!! Even moreso when watching others experience this music for the first time!!! Love your reactions...keep them coming!!!
A great Brummie beat band the same as E L O. And the Moody Blues question from the same concert is great. All the best from England and a Brummie is a person from Brmingham England AKA BRUM.
I wish I could explain to you how this song warms my heart and brings back wonderful memories of my childhood in the 60's. At the end of the studio version Vincent Price a actor who was known for his haunting voice speaks a dialogue. Worth listening too! God bless you both. Love your reaction video's. It's more fun watching with someone else. God has blessed you both with a gift. ❤🙏

When I was a young girl my sister and I would sleep with the radio playing. This was playing on a night someone broke in. A book self in hall saved our life because he hit his gun on it and it went off. We woke up to screaming and smoke, and gunpowder, and this song. Justin Hayward, the singer and composer of this song is one of a kind really. His voice is still as beautiful as it was in 1967 when this song was released. He is 75 and still performing. The Moody Blues were one of the greatest British bands which started in the sixties.
Blessed to have been born in 1961 and hearing this amazing music from 1967 thanks to my mum and dads great taste in music. The spoken-word section many have mentioned is the 'Late Lament' ... a poem written by the drummer, which I believe is only heard on the album.
You were viewing this song re-done, 30 years after the release, with the addition of a an full orchestra. The entire album of 1968 was a masterpiece of beauty and thought.
when i was in band, wed be having a concert, and i would always feel so happy and proud when important parts would be played well by my band mates.. had very little to do with wanting to play something perfect, or looking impressive to anyone, or being impressed with anyones skill, but it had everything to do with getting those chills as asia says.. conveying that beauty and extasy that music can give people, the emotional response, the divine language is what i was looking for.. and when someone can feel it when its played, or play it through their instruments, or write the music for it to be played, its as if you care communicating with god himself, and feeling the higher power in people around you.. if only for a moment
I was not born when this was written, but most of my life I have acknowledged it as one of the greatest love songs ever. This performance was great, but the original recording is flawless.
One of my mom's favorite songs of all time, props to whoever requested this. Not the version I'm used to, but always beautiful. Great choice and reaction, you two. In my generation, the only rock band that blended really well with an orchestra was Smashing Pumpkins
i have been to rock concerts and country concerts but nothing compares to being in the room with a symphony orchestra. you feel the vibration of the strings and the brass.
I just happened to turn on the TV and a music special was coming on, and on the screen it said "The Moody Blues, 20 Years Later", well, I wasn't about to turn the channel, so I watched in total aw of how this band played and sounded vocally, I watched the whole thing, I believed I had it recorded at one time. "Days Of Future Past" is really a great album. There's a song in this concert that is sung by the flutist of this group, it's called "For My Lady", it's a beautiful song, you might appreciate it. Thanks for this video, I really enjoyed it!
I was 16 when I discovered the Moody Blues- 50+ years later and after seeing them 3 times in concert I'm still in awe of their talent. They were incredibly talented, like so many English bands of the 60's and 70's.
"Just what you want to be, you will be in the end..." Those lyrics always stuck with me and still do, each and every time Iisten to this song. Hope, loss, love, all in the same song.
the story is that the lead singer (Justin Haywood), in high school, had a crush on a popular girl, but could not tell her. He would write her letters at night but never give them to her. Hence the lyrics in the song. A close friend of his knew about this. Years later, when this group became very famous, that friend met that girl and told her that this song was about her. She went out and found the singer and today they have been married for many years. Kind of a fun adjunct to this music! I wonder if she ever got to read those letters. They must have been quite romantic considering his ability to write great lyrics. On the album “Days of Future Past,” this song at the end includes a poem by Graeme Edge (the drummer). "Late Lament" Breathe deep the gathering gloom, Watch lights fade from every room.
A Monster Hit when it can out in my days 1967' changing peoples lives !! And is still a big Hit on Classic Rock radio played everyday ! One of Classic Progs first great bands !1 : D
This song has always given me goosebumps no matter how many times I have heard it. This song is from the 1960's. I did get to see them live back in the 80's but without the orchestra. Still an excellent show.
Moody Blues started in 1964. They came to fame as a R&B rock band. They have a feel in their music as psychedelic. They broke up for a bit but got back together. They play'd till 2018. This was their number one huge hit in 1967. I know alot about them cause I seen them twice live. Oh and the band composed this.
following from the end of original album . Spoken as a poem. "Breathe deep the gathering gloom Watch lights fade from every room Bed sitter people look back and lament Another days useless energy spent Impassioned lovers wrestle as one Lonely man cries for love and has none New mother picks up and suckles her son Senior citizens wish they were young Cold hearted orb that rules the night Removes the colors from our sight Red is gray and yellow white But we decide which is right And which is an illusion" The ultimate coda.
This song was a staple of late night radio back on the day. I used to go to sleep with my little AM radio playing and sometimes would fall off to sleep with with this playing. It had a real dreamlike quality to it and I formed an image in my mind of the song long before music videos. Same with Don Mclean's Starry Night.
A formidable legend of legends band that started with pre progressive rock into something totally unique and special. Here are some of their emotionally reaching tunes; Tuesday Afternoon, Never Comes The Day, Question,I know you’re Out There,,You’re Wildest Dreams, and so much more!
Love moody blues been a fan 40+ years live shows are great but the studio extended version with the poetry adds to the experience and another great song is Forever Autumn worth listening to even if you don't do a reaction video
This band is amazing. Their compositions are beautiful and they often used orchestral musical accompaniment. I had the good fortune to see them at an incredible outdoor concert in the 1980’s. It was an exquisite show🌺✌️
........."breath deep the gathering gloom " This is the beginning of the poem at the end of this incredible awesome song! You need to listen to this song with the extended version. 🙂
I'm having so much fun watching reaction videos to the Moody blues. They've always been my favorite band and to see younger people listening to it and loving it is just so hurt warming. Try listening to their song Question in the same concert
I always like this video, it's a great performance obviously, but I see Justin Hayward there in the dark at the end, reacting to the orchestra. and I think, what a wonderful feeling that must have been. Knowing he wrote this, it was a massive hit, it's still loved 25 years later (this concert was in 92), and here he is in the middle of it. I don't know, it's just a silly thing and maybe I'm imagining it. Maybe he's just thinking, thank god that's over for another night. I like to think it's my version, though. You have so much to choose from, older orchestral songs, rock songs, usually with those great harmonies. Justin is one of the main songwriters, along with John Lodge (he was on the right in black), but all the band members wrote. I had the pleasure of seeing John Lodge in a solo concert a couple of years ago. The Voice, Gemini Dream, I Know You're Out There Somewhere, Veteran Cosmic Rocker, Survival, Nervous, Deep. Just some of my favourites! Lovely thoughtful reaction.
Just got to love the Moody Blue's, beautiful reaction. Although they were contemporary's of the Beatles, Rolling Stones etc. having formed in the early 1960's, They were the first band to successfully combine classical music with rock music creating big unique atmospheric sound. l was lucky enough to see them in concert in the early 1970's when they toured extensively. l Have great respect for any band that can perform for fifty years.
Asia, my reaction to this song is the same as yours was. Every time I hear it and I I've been hearing/listening to it for over 50 years. The two of you are wonderful. Love your reactions, especially to the 70's and 60's music.🎵💜✌🎶☮
I wore out several LP's, know every single word of this album The poetry at the beginning and end.. So glad to see young folk discover the the value of your musical heritage.
I just love you guys...so much fun...glad you like the music from back in the day...I was so lucky to grow up with all of that music. good to see younger people finally realizing how great the music from the earlier groups was.
Asia…dead on. The words and the music reflect the emotions. He wrote this when much younger and composed it. You don’t see that today. We got a watch people not be able to play instruments and just grind on things. Lol. It’s a big difference.
They have a huge library of songs. They can rock, they play with symphonies, they can do slow songs, deep thinking songs, songs like Yes and Pink Floyd. They’re concerts were another type of experience. This is from one of the first concept album that represented a day with every song: morning, afternoon, evening, and the end of the day.
If you want to hear an extraordinary band please check out 10cc whose songs are like nothing you have ever heard very unique, a good one is good morning judge or rubber bullets
Days of Futures Past........an EPIC album, start to finish with Nights In White Satin and the Ode. You have to listen to the entire album.....it starts off with songs of the day beginning and goes through the entire day ending in night. It is a true musical masterpiece!
I first heard this song in the mid 70's when I was a young teenager and it became my favorite song even today. It's cool to see younger generations enjoy and react to this beautiful song. By the way, this song comes out the loudest of all channels I listened to by far. Sometimes I like to here it very loud as long as it's not distorted.
Great reaction to this one. You know why you get those Goosebumps asia? Cuz you are a musician and to a musician music is a feeling much more than just a sound. I love The Moody blues it's one of my favorite bands my mom used to play it when I was a kid and I grew up on it. You guys should check out more of their catalog.

"Days Of Future Past" is really a great album. There's a song in this concert that is sung by the flutist of this group, it's called "For My Lady", it's a beautiful song, you might appreciate it. Thanks for this video, I really enjoyed it!
The group formed in 1964 ……. This song was played in 1967 with the London Symphony Orchestra !!!! BEAUTIFUL!!😘
I was 16 when I discovered the Moody Blues- 50+ years later and after seeing them 3 times in concert I'm still in awe of their talent. They were incredibly
talented, like so many English bands of the 60's and 70's.
"Just what you want to be, you will be in the end..." Those lyrics always stuck with me and still do, each and every time Iisten to this song. Hope, loss, love, all in the same song.
Always brings tears. It's so beautiful. Their best song ever!
You should check out more of their music.... there are just so many great songs they created...
the story is that the lead singer (Justin Haywood), in high school, had a crush on a popular girl, but could not tell her. "Late Lament"
Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament,
Another day’s useless energy spent.
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one,
Lonely man cries for love and has none.
New mother picks up and suckles her son,
Senior citizens wish they were young.
Cold hearted orb that rules the night,
Removes the colours from our sight.
Red is grey and yellow white.
But we decide which is right.
And which is an illusion?
A Monster Hit when it can out in my days 1967' changing peoples lives !!
And is still a big Hit on Classic Rock radio played everyday !
One of Classic Progs first great bands !1 : D
This song has always given me goosebumps no matter how many times I have heard it. This song is from the 1960's. I did get to see them live back in the 80's but without the orchestra. Still an excellent show.
I’ve been listening to this song/album since 1967❤️❤️❤️
This song from Moody Blues is a masterpiece, it's eerie & haunting yet amazing
I always thought they had a medieval quality to their sound. The long version of Tuesday Afternoon is a must. You'll thank me.
Yes, I can't help but think of the olde British minstrel music and King Arthur. So much atmosphere.
Tuesday Afternoon, was a huge hit.
following from the end of original album . Spoken as a poem.
"Breathe deep the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade from every room
Bed sitter people look back and lament
Another days useless energy spent
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young
Cold hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colors from our sight
Red is gray and yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion"
The ultimate coda.
The London Symphony Orchestra play with them on the album.
You both gotta listen to the whole album in order, it's an epic
London Festival Orchestra…
Alrighty then
Yes - an orchestra of session musicians put together for this album. Still good.
This band brings it..always has and always will...so happy to see you two enjoy it. Much respect and friendship. Keep on keeping on!
The symphony adds a richness to this song.
Haha I’m here first THIS IS A GREAT TUNE!!! You guys are awesome SAYS OF FUTURE PAST 1968 I think
This band is amazing. Their compositions are beautiful and they often used orchestral musical accompaniment. I had the good fortune to see them at an incredible outdoor concert in the 1980’s. It was an exquisite show🌺✌️
........."breath deep the gathering gloom "
This is the beginning of the poem at the end of this incredible awesome song!
Great band. Many memories and times where I've been. Bringing me smiles, Thank You.
I wore out several LP's, know every single word of this album The poetry at the beginning and end.. So glad to see young folk discover the the value of your musical heritage.
One of Rock’s most beautiful songs
On here or on your own you should check out the album version, it's missing the poems live. Enjoy
Yeah, you need to hear the studio version.
I first heard that song when I was about 5 years old. I remember feeling mystified by it.
Original studio recording is backup singer profection plus poetry..Thank-you for this classic haunting melody..
Thanks for listening
I have seen them live back in the day…they are magical! Them and The Bee Gees are my favorite groups.
Masters of their craft, at their best!!
Tuesday Afternoon [ Forever Afternoon] is another great song by them. plus Ride My See Saw.
Was lucky enough to see them live and this song brought me to tears….
"Tuesday Afternoon" Moody Blues LONG EXTENDED VERSION 8:31 min. For an unforgetable journey.
Thx! Their first hit was “Go now.” A classic from 1962 (or so!)
This was one of the favorites, back in the day, when we had real "dates" and had real "slow dancing." Everyone had 45 RPM's (records) of this song for our weekend "dance parties."
Yes, playing 45's on a Dansette record player. Life was simpler back in those days!
16 studio albums, numerous solo albums, 200 plus songs, the Moodies have some incredible music. their songs have been done by everything from bluegrass to hip hop and rap groups. hope you do some more!
Great song!
I close my eyes and he sounds just like he did when it first came out. Another beautiful song from the past.
Some day listen to the full
Length version, has some poetry. Also try Tuesday Morning, My See Saw, and more. They are fabulous
Soooo happy yall did this song. It's been one of my favorites ever since the 70s when I was a kid and I love performing this song in karaoke.
