I used to love sewing when I was younger because it was so hard to find tall sizes back in the 70s & 80s. In fact, I even made my own prom dresses. And, you are right - it's so messy, and much more physically tiring than knitting. But the results are so much faster (I write this as I am eyeing my mother's sewing machine in the corner... You're such an enabler, Jonna!).

Hi Jonna, this is my 1st time commenting on your channel, but have been watching and loving it since you both started it. I knit and also sew. You had spoken about all the stuff needed for sewing in a small space. In the last couple of months, I moved from a 2000 sq ft home to a one bedroom apartment. My quilter friend suggested the adjustable 4 ft white folding tables sold at Sam's. The height of the tables adjust low enough for children, the height of an average dining room table and the height that accommodates those of us that stand and cut fabric. I bought 2 of them and set them up in a small space against the wall in an L-shape. One has my cutting mat and the other a rectangular ironing board that I made DIY. There are many UA-cam videos on how to do this. Just a suggestion. Love your top! Sheila

Thank you so much for the catch up Jonna. You and Kim each make my day, together or seperate. About the granny blanket in your house, I think if you use colors that are not 'jarring' to your color scheme, it will be just fine. It's lovely to have a little handmade touch to even the most designer decor. And I think it would be fit in quite well with your seasonal items you add in. Besides, every one deserves a cozy, homey blanket to snuggle up in! The colors you've shown so far are just beautiful. I look forward to seeing it when its done.

Toys we would love to play with: our Bible study group did a gift exchange one year where we picked names and then purchased a toy we thought they would have loved to play with when they were younger. We then donated all the gifts to a local Christmas charity; so much fun!

Your crochet project is looking beautiful, and if scrappy/random doesn’t suit your aesthetic then perhaps scrappy monochromatic is your sweet spot? You seemed especially pleased with the shades of green square. I’m loving the question of what toy would you play with as an adult, and realize that my crafting is both a place/time for playfulness and enjoyment (exploring new techniques, fibers, colors, shapes). Hoping that both you and Kim are well and finding good Summer fun and time enough to fully relax.

It was fun to watch your podcast, so thank you. I was also inspired by Sarah to start crocheting a granny square blanket. I am making the one she has draped over her couch. I could not crochet, but long live UA-cam tutorials 😄 I thought I had a lot of sock yarn scraps, but hey! it takes loads more than I had expected 🙃so it is a good project to get rid of al your leftovers. I now know how addictive crocheting is. Can't stop anymore!

I also love watching It's.A.Sarah podcasts, but I watch her Dutch episodes as I'm Dutch myself... yeah, I'm crocheting granny squares too, she's inspired me, and a good way to use up all the bits of leftover project wool.

Oh thanks Jonna, made me blush! My husband was sitting next to me reading the newspaper and I said listen listen 🤭🤣 I’m like you, no muslins, no tracing paper, baby swatches (unless it’s super important then I’m a good girl) life is short, time is precious, play hard!
My hair is grey, it makes my mum laugh as she colours her hair still. I used to get my haircut once or twice a year when it was very long. Your hair is so lovely 💕
This will make you laugh, I cut my own hair, and my husbands, using my old dog clippers and a pair of scissors. I’m not good, just determined and cheap 😬😆 it’s just another craft project really!
I’d rip back and redo the uneven neck too 😣🫤 when something bothers me I know it’s worth the redo, plus I have no hair these days to hide it. If I did have hair though I’d probably keep knitting.
Thanks for another fun episode, Karen 🥰😘

Your new hair cut looks great. I didn’t realize you had so much natural color. Mine grayed like that as well, but I wear it short.
In reference to your sewing your granny squares together…..one of my knitting group friends does mostly crochet bags to sell. She learned to do the mattress stitch and just loves the way it looks with no seam like on either side. I would never have thought of using it in crochet. It does look great.
I also took a class on how to crochet the squares together, but you do it while you are crocheting the last round of the square.

Your new hair cut looks so lovely ~ and the color is so beautiful. I am a sewist from childhood, but have not yet come back to it. That said, I'm working in a LYS, Nina Chicago, which also sells fabrics. So I imagine I'll get back into it sooner than later! But I agree, sewing does become such a spread out affair, with lots of threads ending up all over the place. For now, more knitting and crocheting!!!

I so enjoyed this. I haven’t sewed in a while and have been challenging myself to do more. I have been a crocheter for years and always loved granny squares even when they weren’t in season. I do have a colorful granny square afghan that is framed in black…it fits right in my vintage home. I started working on a granny square afghan for my bed several years ago and set it aside…it was just so big I got burned out. The Zoria is a lovely sweater…so daunting though. The colors for your academic are stunning…can’t wait to see it finished. I’m awful at putting together colors so I usually follow colors that others have used. Hope Kim had a great trip!

You've inspired me to use my sewing machine more often despite how much mess it creates - you're so right about knitting being a very clean craft, haha. Also, I gasped when I saw your Academic vest, it's been a while since you've shown it to us (completely understandable with all the issues you've had with it) and I forgot how gorgeous it is! Definitely looking forward to seeing more of it in the future updates, glad to know it's no longer an UFO 🛸
Side note, the "rz" in Marzena is pronounced similar to the first sound in "joie de vivre", it's a Polish name! Kołaczek is pronounced something like "kouacheck" (or at least that's the best I can do with transcribing it into English, Polish doesn't make it easy...)

Jonna, could you undo the stitches that join the two sides of the back, then knit a few rows until the one side matched the other and join them again? You'd be off by one stitch because you'd be knitting in the opposite direction, but I don't think it will be visible. I'd try that first before frogging the whole thing.

Jonna!!! Before you frog your Zoria....have you considered asking another knitter to try to fix your neck stitches that "bother" you? If you are going to frog it anyway, it may be fixed to save you some hours of knitting. It is just a thought and maybe you have thought of it but don't want to ask? I love all of your creations and I still want to make the April Cardigan. I also watch "It Is A Sarah" - LOVE her.........and how genuine she is. I agree with sewing being messy and knitting being more relaxing and easier to pick up and put down. I had to laugh at your sewing set up - matches mine - ironing board in one bedroom, sewing machine in another. Our kids are grown & married....their bedrooms are being put to good use. Thank you for all of your starting and stopping in this episode - you make it look easy to those of us who haven't ever tried to podcast. You're rather wrong on the pronunciation of Marzena Kołaczek. the "rz" is a bit like "si" in "vision" or "Asia"; try this: Muh-SIA-nuh Co-WA-check
Also, ribbing in two directions from a provisional cast on will never look perfect! When you start knitting in the other direction, you're in a way moving half a stich to the side

Thank you for the correct pronunciation! And, it’s less about looking perfect and more about it being off-center because I tried to “fix” it by unraveling. I’ll see what can be done!

Hi Jonna, I suggest you restart the zoria before you frog it. Then compare if the new one really looks so much better than the old one. I think because this part is ribbing it will always looks a bit strange…
    I love this minisode. ❤️🧶🇨🇭
