- Earth & Fire was a Dutch progressive rockband from the 1960's. The group started with twin brothers Chris (guitar) and Gerard (keyboards) Koerts. They were the main composers of the band. Lead singer was Jerney Kaagman who later also came to prominence as head of the jury of TV program 'Idols'.
Earth & Fire had a string of hits in the early 1970's starting with "Seasons", "Ruby Is the One", and "Wild and Exciting", Later came "Invitation", "Storm and Thunder" and "Memories" between 1970 and 1973. "Wild And exiting was their 3rd hit which reached #5 in the Dutch top 40.
They visited the Toppop studios many times.
This is the very first Eart & Fire recording of Toppop, broadcast on the first episode of Toppop on 22 September 1970.
Unfortunately Gerard Koerts deceased on 20 February 2019 in Pergignan, France.

TopPop was the first regular dedicated pop music TV show in the Dutch language area. Dutch broadcaster AVRO aired the programme weekly, from 1970 to 1988. Presenter Ad Visser hosted the show for its first fifteen years.
World famous music artists performed on TopPop: ABBA, 10CC, Bee Gees, The Jacksons with Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Earth & Fire, Queen, Golden Earring, Boney M, KC & The Sunshine Band, Chic, Donna Summer and many many more.
De gebroeders Koers waren genieën en dat samen met de aanwezigheid van de prachtige Jerney en haar typische nausale stem, maakte het tot een fantastische totale plaatje... Memories feeling very sad..

Au départ comme beaucoup d'autres je présume, je m'étais planté sur le nom du groupe et je trouvais que ça ne ressemblait pas vraiment à EWF, puis j'ai cerné la différence. Bon OK je découvre le truc 50 ans plus tard. N'empêche que c'est exactement le son que j'aime : vintage, claquant, belle performance vocale. Le son que tu as envie de mettre à fond sur l'autoradio en cruisant dans une décapotable de l'époque (on peut aussi essayer en Vélib, mais ça n'est pas le même style).

Never understood how this bunch changed from *this* into mediocre lightweight pop .
Seems they bowed to record company pressure to come up with radio friendly pop .
Songs such as "Storm & Thunder" emphasize that very thought even more, not to mention their album "To the World of the Future" which is an absolute Masterpiece !
Wrong. The record company was NOT amused with the songs written as on reality fills fantasy. Strange enough Weekend was one of the biggest hits Earth & Fire made. My favo is btw Storm and thunder ( long version ) and the complete 1st album, also the first album I ever bought as 11 year old
@@fcamsterdam4364 Really?! Interesting, I recently discovered Earth and Fire and I couldn't stand Weekend. This song and Maybe Tomorrow Maybe Tonight are great. Too bad so many awesome prog bands went soft or disco or pop post 1976.
