  • With only one hundred dollars, Chintana Sengchannavong, her mother and eight sisters moved to the United States when she was just a young girl. Their family moved from Laos, then Thailand and eventually settling in the Rockford region taking very little with them. One thing they did take was the knowledge and ability to make delicious homemade, authentic food. Using skills passed down from generations - along with determination and hope - Sisters Thai Cafe was established.
Just as they were making a name for themselves in the Rockford community, the pandemic hit and created yet another obstacle for Chintana and her family. Never wavering they found opportunities to keep their doors open. Customers turned into friends and supported the restaurant multiples times per week, and the popular Barstool Sports, digital sports media company, provided financial relief to help keep their business up and running.
Today this locally owned restaurant is successfully feeding patrons daily. It wouldn't have been possible without a clear vision, opportunities, mixed with a whole lot of love and support. The Sengchannavong's story is inspiring and will hopefully encourage others with a similar dream to take that chance. It's the first step in making it possible.
