A strong message indeed, never give up, progress is about taking risks. Imagine all the humans before us crossing the vastness of the seas in fragile boats and rafts all those hundred and even thousand years ago searching for new land.
I showed this to my father who worked at nasa training astronauts and sitting in mission control for the shuttle program and was laid iff a few years ago. This brought tears to eyes. You did an awesome job on this video
Wow, thank you. That really means a lot to hear that! It makes me sad that we do not have an active human space program right now- people like your father are extraordinary pioneers.
This rocket technology came from war because people are still more willing to spend money on war then Space. NASA engineer here, just want to say thanks for putting this together. I come back every year and give it a watch whenever I feel the tedium of the minutiae starting to get overwhelming and I lose sight of what my little cog in the machine is there to help make happen on the macro scale. Such an amazing time to be alive, and so much more to explore!
It's crazy to think that people once thought going to the moon was impossible. Now we are already looking at landings on Mars. Only years now, we will witness the 1st landing on Mars.
It's amazing that that's what gets me...I'm literally still crying from watching it for perhaps the 50th time...I think that maybe it's because that's the one that's happened during my lifetime. We're from a generation that has kind of rekindled the fire of exploration, and may just see these things again. And when it happens and we see our accomplishments actually being in the same league as those we hold up as almost godlike...it's amazing. For Christ's sake...those folks that landed on the Moon have SCHOOLS named after them. There's a Neil Armstrong Elementary in my town. We might live in a time where that kind of stuff makes history...not viruses or terrorist attacks or Orange Presidents.
yes i cried too, this is one of those videos that could not of been created any better, the editing is what makes this so good, the Discovery launch @4:15 rising with the music, Reagan's touching words of sorrow followed by the roar of the shuttles engines as it blasts of defiantly again perfectly edited with the music, and finally the creme de le creme is the footage @6:00 of the space station floating effortlessly from probably the greatest angle EVER combined with the piano fading out was the perfect way to end this video.

What happened to this America, one where Americans wanted to go places they've never gone before, do things that could have never been done. Not this pathetic political banter that reigns in our country. Great Video BTW :)
