- OBSCURIST TOURIST 029 - If you've ever driven out of Toronto on the 427 toward the airport and onto the 401, then you've certainly seen something that is as mysterious as it is confusing. That sight is a cemetery snug smack-dab in the middle of one of the busiest intersections in Canada. The cemetery in question is called the Richview Memorial cemetery, and it's a pioneer cemetery - one in which many of Etobicoke's and Toronto's early settlers are buried. The cemetery is one that I - like millions of other throughout the year - see on the daily while been zooming by it in various vehicles. I would likely guess that it's one of the most seen cemeteries in the world, yet one of the least visited.

You should still go there if you can. Like you, I’ve driven by it countless times over the years - and I finally had to stop in. A nice piece of history, despite it being in the worst possible location.
Such a poignant reminder of our past. Always fascinated by the last survivors of neighbourhoods (e.g. a lone house in the midst of high rises).
I love this stuff too. Sometimes it’s nice to see a stark reminder of what shaped our towns, cities, and roadways.

I grew up in Etobicoke and drove by this and thought about it. Always thought it would have been a pain in the ass to navigate to.
It is not an easy site to get to … and if you miss the turnoff (which is easy to miss), you have to drive for 15 minutes to turn around and try again.
