- Smallville Season 3, Episode 8, Shattered, and Episode 9, Asylum, Lex finds out Clark's secret and Clark tries to help Lex escape the Asylum with disastrous consequences for himself
A part of me really wishes that Clark had decided to tell Lex the truth and be more open with him. Just imagine the possibilities just doing that could have brought about in terms of future storylines and character development. Maybe the two have a better friendship for a while but Lex begins to change regardless and when the two have a falling out that sets them on the path to being enemies, Clark realizes why keeping his secret is important and thus explains why he is against sharing it willingly.
Or go the fanfiction route and Lex never becomes evil because Clark was willing to be so open with him, thus preventing him from going down a dark path. Maybe have Lionel be the villain and he ends up killing Lex, thus adding a tragedy to the character that kinda goes along with the "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain" quote.
Lex has always had something inherently dark within him. Rather Clark told him or not, Lex was always going to be at odds with Clark due to conflict of interest.
Clark wants to do good at all times and all places, whereas Lex isn’t as rigged, he will cut corners to get what he wants. That ultimately would have made them be at odds.
At least, that’s my opinion, what do you think about that?
Lex was spying on Clark from day 1, and although he promised not to do again he kept doing it. That's not a true friend.@@solarpoweredafricanvegansp178

This would have been an interesting turning point if clark had been honest with lex. It's not like there isn't other people that could corroborate that clark has super powers.
They was best friend lex ask Clark if there anything tell him and said lies destroy his trust because of his father clark should have trusted lex from start
I mean, it might've been different. But to say and always support that Lex would've been good is grossly naive.
See the thing is, from clarks perspective he cant for three reasons
1. His whole life was spent hiding who he was, it’s difficult to break that habbit
2. He really doesnt know lex very much at all, he’s only known him for so long
3. Luthors cant be trusted according to his father, the man he respects the most of all

One thing I hated about this show everyone knew Clarks weakness and had kyptonite
They didn’t know he just happen to keep reacting to it even if it was a small amount or use it by coincidence
What Clark did to Lex here was borderline sociopathic. He knew Lex was being drugged by his father and kept there against his will with his mind being degraded. Yet he left him there to rot in order to protect a secret that was already out of the bag anyway. He could have gotten Lex out and helped guide him towards the light but instead he maroons him in hell.
You're forgetting he went back to try and get him out later. The only reason why he couldn't is because somehow Eric and Ian knew he was there. As for guiding Lex, you can only show someone a path, not make them walk it.
I remember watching this when it aired and thinking all the buildup to the moment worked, and then Lex just forgets about Clark and it always rubbed me wrong. I understand the writers' hesitation to let this stick, I just felt like this was a perfect way to move things in a new way and that Lex could have built a new kind of resentment towards Clark later.
I also hoped they could just be friends and screw comic continuity. TV shows like this can change relationships, Lex could have been a friend in the end. He has different experiences than the ocmic Lex, which could have changed him. The show kind of lost me at this moment and I don't remember enough to give any more details. I just remember this is when the show lost me.
Clark was a jerk. He told others, but not the best friend that was always there for him and his friends 😡
Lex literally told the *very first* people he saw after seeing Clark use his powers.. yeah would’ve been such a good idea to tell him
Lex ultimately proved that he could never be trusted..
@@ChickenJoe12to be fair Lex was basically at the tipping point of his sanity in this scene and he most likely wasn’t thinking straight, but that’s just giving him the benefit of the doubt…
