      Jude Law computing technology came such a long way, that the center's original purpose was no longer so important. A shame in a way. It was perfect for its intended role. Building 6 was still a customs house on 9/11 though.

      Stix N' Stones I never even knew there was a plan to rebuild a original version? I remember seeing people saying that somehow it's disrespectful to rebuild the original because the attacks would be forgotten, I think that building a original style would make it harder to forget. I've always been fascinated with the WTC complex, I want to see New York some day.

      @Gus W I think the new tower is an insult to NYC and it's once iconic skyline and it's a betrayal to the city and the whole country. It is a semi-phallic, mishapen eyesore that more fittingly belongs in Singapore or Dubai.

    • @Urlocallordandsavior
      @Urlocallordandsavior 2 роки тому

      I wouldn't be surprised if the NY Port Authority decided to demolish the WTC towers by this point (had 9/11 not occured, RIP to all those who died, it would've been an archaic eye sore that would've better fitted in 1996's "Romeo and Juliet's" Verona Beach than the futuristic looking buildings of Manhattan today, particularly after the WFC complex disturbed the Hudson riverside skyline).

    Question: Have emergency exit strategies been improved since 9/11 ? IS there a way of being able to rescue more people?
    Tragically, it took the deaths of over a thousand people from the Titanic to change laws as far as communications and life boats regulations. (Enough room for ALL on board. ) Either on purpose or by accident, people still died needlessly.

      Fuzzy Bunny Slippers the new building has wider stairways (double width) encased in many feet of bunker grade concrete. The fire department has its own redundantly powered elevator to quickly reach the floor of a fire, plus their own staircase so they don't have to fight the flow of workers escaping. The glass is military grade, inches thick.

    Just think, if they had made the buildings stronger instead of using cheap, light-weight construction methods never before used in the USA, thousands of workers could have escaped the raging inferno and only a small fraction would have died on 9-11-01. The Empire State Building was hit by a plane and yet it survived.

      It's easy to say that now. Building them "lightweight" allowed them to be built at all. Light trusses cost less to transport and lift to such heights, and granted flexibility against wind and earthquakes. They were easier to remove to install local tenant stairways and the like. The fireproofing was definitely subpar though.
      The new building is solid as a rock. But look at the cost. That's why there's no building 2 and won't be for years, maybe a generation. I don't fancy the new building in an earthquake. It's so heavy its weight would act against it.

    The Twin Towers were honestly probably the biggest mistakes in the modern industrial architecture business. Back in the 70's, they were in massive demand because nobody nor did industry have any other means of travel, thus the World Trade Center was beyond what New York needed. But by 2001 they were largely emptied because industry and people had developed other means of trade or industry thus I'd say if they were left standing by 2007-'08 during the crisis? They would've probably been maybe around 54% emptied because of how many industry companies practically died.
    If 9/11 didn't happen? I couldn't see the Twin Towers having a much longer future. The advent of the internet and as the NYC skyline warpped around much more modern designs I'd say that people who said they were outdated in the '80's should've awaited until 2001. Although they are a marvel because people see them today as amazing, innovative, man made creations I saw the lobbies and the offices before 9/11 and I thought one word "tacky". Love the simplistic looks, but it was sadly becoming vastly degraded in quality and in need. This maybe distrubing but on 9/11 there exists a video right below the WTC on fire during 9/11 with the music playing and while I was hearing the massive "THUMP" of people striking the ground, all I could say was "Jesus this music is such outdated elevator music, no wonder everybody jumped". It was a morbid joke but honestly it's a Billy Joel song transfered to a elevator tone alongside the Bee Gees. Not two musicians who deserve to have their music degraded to the quality of an outdated plaza next to a pair of useless trade offices.

    I am kind of still glad we are a little over the crow bar age help people think to keep some feet on the ground. The tower part is sad but many socialist countries with a capitalistic view only on top and how most of the jobs built up described of time period of extensive brick and mortar well usually just crowbar. However don't disagree that was sad. Next it's tiny robots and how people are acting more robotic you can tell that if that is their only job they will start to build like it and then act with it.
