I am not a musician but I am a teacher and it was so interesting to hear each musician's response. I love the comments about energy and personality and passion. Also listening to know what each student needs, being your own teacher, learning from colleagues and always looking to keep learning no matter how old you are. I appreciated the subtitles.
Thanks!! 😀
Thank you for doing these videos. My most influential teachers were Tim Parry and of course my most influential was Don Jacoby.
Thank you!! 🙏 Great, thanks for sharing your teachers!
Roger’s point about being your own best teacher is 🔥🔥🔥
Also loved Karin’s nod to her colleagues & peers.
It’s true, and it’s been an inspiration to me to see your dedication to your practice even on the roughest travel days.
Great work my friend, keep em coming!
Thank you man!! 🙏
Yes, totally agree. Loved those points from Roger and Karin, so great.
I do miss those lobby/travel day warm-up sessions. Not always ideal after a flight and 2hr van ride ... but I always found them to be excellent ways to center myself and bring familiarity to new spaces.
You guys are troupers and I thank you for what you do!
So. Good. Thank you for doing this!! My most influential teachers were Rex Richardson, Kevin Maloney, and Joey Tartell.
Thank you!! Glad you're digging these. Nice - I didn't know you studied with them, they are great.
Marcus I agree with you!
So. Good.
Thanks for doing all this. I've been playing for over 50 years, have studied with Cichowica, Gekker and Schlueter and follow all the amazing players you interview, still practice/play everday and watching videos like yours are sooooooo needed. I guess this means I am totally a trumpet nerd!! I have really gotten a ton of inspiration from the frist two videos and am really looking forward to the next one. Thx
Wow Many typos....sorry about that
Thanks, Randy!! Glad you dig this, and appreciate you sharing.
All good, made sense to me! A few typos slipped through the editing of the video ... happens to all us trumpet players. lol
It's great reading the comments where people are sharing their thoughts and the memories of their favorite teachers. It's beautiful, touching, fun & inspirational. This is a very cool project!
Who was your most influential teacher? Let's shout out those who have helped us and inspired us along the way.
Here are my most influential teachers - Roy Poper, Kenny Davis, Terry Everson, Michael Sachs, Marcus Belgrave, and Ian Indorf.
Josh, this is a great video! It's a pleasure hearing from all these wonderful musicians. Their excitement for their art and their passion is truly palpable. Their shared memories are sweet and touching. WOW!!
They made me think...
My favorite and most effective and memorable teacher was my 10th-12th grade foreign language teacher Rita Shtull. Her teaching skills were amazing! And my Grandfather Nathan taught me many valuable life lessons. And Josh, you've taught me so much about music, about trumpet playing, about mutes, and about life! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your experience with us. This series is intriguing and informative. And very entertaining! I'm looking forward to more of this awesome series.
Yes sir, Josh! Loving your devoted work! These are incredible! The best out there! Many thanks!
Thank you, JC!! I appreciate the kind words 🙏🙏.
JC you are right. This is already a great series, with so much more to come! I'm impressed.
These videos are great! Please keep them coming :)
My two greatest teachers were Tom Macklin and Phil Snedecor.
Thanks!! 🙏 That’s great!!
These videos are a joy to watch. The passion is glorious and uplifting!
These first two videos have been amazing to watch- thanks for doing this! As for my teachers, trumpet-specific they've been Joe Phelps at Appalachian State and Jay Coble at Univ. of So. Florida (both Bill Adam guys). Jazz-wise, Todd Wright at App St and Jack Wilkins (the sax player) at USF.
Thanks, David! Nice, thanks for sharing! I'll have to look them up.
It's so good seeing all these comments! Their influences and passions are stong. I'm enjoying this and I'm not even a horn player.
What a great compilation of answers about such important subjects! Thank you for the time you invested in this and for sharing ! And thank you to the incredible trumpet players that shared their knowledge and experience!
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Another great video, Josh! I am dying to check out the next one already!!!! My two greatest teachers were Mr. Adam and the trombone professor at DePaul, Mark McDunn. Mr. Adam taught me the fundamentals and McDunn taught me the business of music.
Thanks, Glenn!! Nice - DePaul!
Glenn it's so cool that you shared your own favorite teachers here. Thank you! Roots have always been very interesting to me.
Another great video Josh I love how you’ve assembled such a diverse group!
Thanks!!
Dude! I'm less than 2 minutes in. This is an awesome project!
Thanks, Frank!! I've been working on the next one ... I should be able to release it sometime this month.
Brilliant again, can’t wait for the next one. So inspiring to see the love, respect and appreciation from these great players to the players before them.
Thank you!! Yes, I was getting inspired editing this. So great to hear this all from everyone.
