      You should just use an iphone for "Shot of the lifetime" shots. No setup time. No extra load. And you should just use a DSLR or production camera for professional work.
      The Osmo Pro effectively has zero purpose. Don't spend $2K on it.

    Hi Colin, a couple of questions:
    1. After upgrading the FW, were there any issues when using the X5 back on the inspire?
    2. Confusion about the tripod - according to DJI, the tripod is NOT compatible with the X5 adapter, is this true?
    Thanks!

  • @CameronStotzUS

    I purchased the Osmo Mobile so that I would have the ability to use an iPhone in the Mobile gimbal; which works fine. I have an Inspire 1 x5, so I bought the x5 adapter plate; but I can't find anything online on how to remove the mobile gimbal and install the x5 adapter plate. Is the Osmo Mobile not compatible with the x5 adapter? DJI is unresponsive and I can't find anything on their website to help me out. Might just end up returning it all... Wondering if there's an expert out here who knows?

    Great video! Though if you have enough light available, I would recommend closing the aperture of your camera down a bit so there's more depth of field. It's a little tough on the eyes seeing the gear out of focus while you're explaining stuff.

    Ciao vedo che sei un esperto, ho appena acquistato questa videocamera osmo pro x5 (ottica 15 originale), usata. Premetto che sono un neofita, sono il titolare di una orchestra e autore di brani e l’ho acquistata per girare videoclip sui miei brani. Ad esempio vorrei girare con degli sfuocati, avrei pensato di acquistare obiettivo Olympus 14-42 Pancake (è necessario anche anello di stabilizzazione?), ma non avendo Handweel, non so se riusciró a far funzionare lo zoom. Non riesco a trovare sull’app dji go il comando per lo zoom. Se hai un contatto messanger potrei contattarti li sarebbe più agevole per porti alcuni quesiti. Grazie intanto per il tuo tempo

    HI, I saw your video posted on this post but some how I saw video more shaky, can you explain why as I feel using Gimble should avoid such bumps. Please explain.

    • @photoshopcafe
      @photoshopcafe  8 років тому

      It stabilizes the video well, but it bounces while walking. They made a z-axis adapter to reduce this, but It's not really working on the X5 camera yet, as far as I know. So the solution is to not walk wit it much while filming and if you do, do it slowly, or use a skateboard. This was a test, so I wanted to find the weaknesses as well as the strengths, I was surprised how well it performed in low light.

    This may need a 4th axis. You still see the walking movement which defeats the whole purpose of this rig. I bought the 4th axis for my X3 head and it didn't seem to help much. It almost introduced more up and down movement. And yes, as someone pointed out, the silver phone holder annoys the shit out of me!

    Don't use this for professional video. Don't do it. I own an X5 and an Osmo handle, the footage on the ground is crap. The X5 on anything but a drone is just awful. DJI is extremely misleading in including "Pro" in the Osmo Pro name. Here's a really good entry-level DSLR setup for the *same price* as the Osmo Pro:
    A Panasonic GH4 mirrorless: $1,300
    A DSLR shoulder rig that can hold 15mm rods: Probably $50 to $300 depending on what you buy. I found a $70 one on Amazon.
    15mm rods: Like $10 or less
    Rokinon Cine Lens (any focal length): $500
    Fotga follow focus: $100

      MyFriendlyPup If you think roll-stepping is "ninja walk nonsense" and shoulder rigs went out of style in 2009, it's clear you're not in the cinematography business. Nor should you be. Walk into a pro job with an Osmo, and prepare to be laughed at.
      Have fun trying to use a follow focus on a handheld gimbal. Have fun realizing you literally still need to roll step when using a gimbal.

    • @IAmNumber4000
      @IAmNumber4000 8 років тому

      theforce34 The gh4 is available on Panasonic's website or B&H, just search it up and you should find it. Takes far better video than the Osmo Pro.
      Rokinon Cine lenses are about as inexpensive as cinema lenses get. They don't use autofocus, but autofocus is generally useless for video anyway. Follow focuses will get you way better focus pulling results, and the GH4 has focus peaking. Using these two things, you can be faster and much more accurate than autofocus. Nothing ruins footage faster than autofocus trying to focus, failing, and retrying 5 times while you miss your shot. Here's the link: www.rokinon.com/lenses/cine-lenses
      For the shoulder mount, this $69.99 shoulder mount from Neweer is actually somewhat cheaper than buying the parts and building it yourself: www.amazon.com/Neewer-FilmMaker-Camcorder-Dual-hand-Camcorders/dp/B00GTMBA7K/ref=pd_sbs_421_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=7RQYK4X6A0FS4C91PKSC
      You could also get a counterweight to mount on the back of the shoulder rig to help manage the weight from the camera: www.amazon.com/Neewer-Aluminium-Balancing-Shoulder-Stabilizer/dp/B0171M3CXG/ref=pd_sim_421_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=FYAJZ8SR9FDNX4MTAC7C
      Fotga follow focuses are about as inexpensive as they get without the quality dropping significantly ($199): www.amazon.com/Upgraded-DP500III-Release-Dampen-Blackmagic/dp/B01AI2AVXA/ref=sr_1_7?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1478208885&sr=1-7&keywords=follow+focus

    • @CinemaStyleVideo
      @CinemaStyleVideo 8 років тому

      I've done a few real estate videos with the osmo. I shot them with manual settings.

    • @IAmNumber4000
      @IAmNumber4000 8 років тому

      Handles it poorly. I do aerial real estate shots, and have the Inspire 1 Pro, so I bought the Osmo handle for it since I've been looking to expand into interior video. X5 is good for aerials, but is a terrible camera for interiors. Terrible for all ground shots, really. Awful dynamic range, the autofocus and autoexposure will ruin your shots countless times. If you're working professionally you *should not* be needing to fight your camera just to get a usable shot, which is what you need to do with the Osmo Pro. Here's a really great shoulder-mounted DSLR setup for interior walkthroughs for the same price as the Osmo Pro ($2K):
      A Panasonic GH4 mirrorless: $1,300
      A DSLR shoulder rig that can hold 15mm rods: Probably $50 to $300 depending on what you buy. I found a $70 one on Amazon.
      15mm rods: Like $10 or less
      Rokinon Cine Lens (any focal length): $500
      Fotga follow focus: $100
      The shoulder mount works better than the gimbal. The Osmo's stabilization is effectively just as good as using footage stabilization in post, there will still be up, down, left, and right vibration. Shoulder mount is far more stable just as long as you learn to roll step.

      thats bouncy because he walked to record it. profesional film maker use rail to make smooth record / not walking. or u can use skateboard whlie recording.

    I've been thinking about getting the OSMO X3. It costs less than a one-hand stabilizer for my GH4 and it includes the camera. What do you think about the X3 as a camera in general? I'd like to use it when I'm traveling to keep a lower profile than even with the GH4.

      +Robert Shaver I've been using it until the X5 adapter. It's good quality as long as you have good light. It sucks in low light

    Thanks.

      Hi Andrew, DJI have now released a z axis stabilisation bar so the Osmo will stabilise over 4 axis instead of 3.

    Dgi 4k recording vs a iPhone or Android 4K recording??? Which is better?

    • @IAmNumber4000
      @IAmNumber4000 8 років тому +1

      Lol, DJI is better, but NOT by a long shot. The iPhone 7's bitrate is 47 Mbps. The X5's is 60 Mbps. And the X5 has a horrendous setup time and carry weight for what is supposed to be a consumer-level for-fun camera.

    • @IAmNumber4000
      @IAmNumber4000 8 років тому

      ***** It's hard to beat iPhone's convenience and carry weight. It's got no setup time, for what is essentially supposed to be "The camera you always have with you".
      That's apparently what the Osmo was supposed to be. "The gimbal you always have with you". Except you don't. You don't always have it with you, and if you're going to bother bringing equipment, you should bring a proper DSLR or production camera. You should be bringing actual equipment and not toys when you're being paid to put out good work.
      The Osmo is not a convenience camera and it's not a professional camera. It is effectively pointless. That makes it a toy.

    • @IAmNumber4000
      @IAmNumber4000 8 років тому

      ***** Then get a Ronin M or Came-TV gimbal. It's cheaper than getting the Osmo, and it'll work with whatever _non-shit_ camera you already own. Ronin M even works with smaller production level cameras like the Blackmagic Cinema Camera or Ursa Mini.
      "If you're a casual filmer then you're right... the Osmo and Zenmuse cameras are not for you"
      What's funny is that it's not for casual filmers, but not for pros either. The quality's shit for ground work, and the Osmo itself isn't much more than a toy. I wouldn't be caught dead using an Osmo for a paid job. The Osmo and Zenmuse cameras are damned expensive, though, to the point where you'd expect it to be near production-camera quality. But it's nowhere near even a DSLR-level quality. The GH4 is way better than the X5 in every way, and you can easily buy a GH4 with a gimbal for far less than the Osmo Pro costs.
      And the funny thing is, I'm fairly certain a DSLR on a gimbal would be better than the Osmo for run-and-gun shoots. You need to hook up your iphone to the thing's wifi just to see what the hell it is you're shooting! With a DSLR, the screen is already attached to it. No shitty proxy transmitted over wireless required. DSLRs with gimbal mounts have less setup time, and get far superior footage at a much higher bitrate.
      I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm angry at you. I'm not. I'm just angry at what a bad deal all of the Osmos are. I bought an Osmo handle since I already owned the Inspire 1 Pro, and I was floored by just how bad the footage looks on the ground. I'm frustrated that DJI is selling the Osmo Pro as if it's usable as a professional camera, when it's barely above the level of an iPhone.

    • @IAmNumber4000
      @IAmNumber4000 8 років тому

      MyFriendlyPup If you NEED a gimbal, use the Ronin M. Not the Osmo.

    how much lag is there form the cam to phone screen?
    there is no wired monitor option?
    (I use gopro with removu wifi protable screen and thereis at least 1sec of lag not always great for high movment shots) also is the rolling shutter noticably bad read spec it was 11ms so that is pretty rough esp as the x5 is supposted to be pro level gear

    • @photoshopcafe
      @photoshopcafe  8 років тому

      +Luke Roman not any noticeable lag. An attachable screen would be nice, but unlikely since it's really a drone camera

  • @timhoward9317

    Great to see some test footage of the X5 on the Osmo. I've done this in the opposite way, I have an Osmo with the X3 camera, I'm about to buy the Inspire 1 Pro, the plan being to use its X5 on both platforms.
    The Osmo seems to work very well with the X3 gimbal, but I've found the sound to be very disappointing. Not so much of an issue when the X3 is bolted to the underside of an Inspire as seldom will the original soundtrack be used, but a fairly major flaw in a handheld gimbal which I plan to use for PTC work. I obtained the DJI FlexiMic (which the retailer originally neglected to bundle with the Osmo) and whilst this is a great improvement, it still picks up a lot of noise from the gimbal motors/X3 cooling fan. I will need to look at some alternatives.
    Anyway as ever, thanks for the great videos, I'm looking forward to seeing the improvements in quality with the large sensor.

    Hi mate, I live in New Zealand and watch your vlogs constantly. I have the inspire 2 with the x5s camera . I was wanting to know if you have any tips you could share as to the best settings for the camera when in flight. Sharpness , shutter etc.. thanks

    • @photoshopcafe
      @photoshopcafe  7 років тому

      for video 1/60th is the best shutter speed (30 fps) or 1/50th if your shooting (24/25fps) . I always level out sharpness etc to 0. If you are shooting D-log then all ought to be good.
