Brilliant idea... which im considering doing. I was wincing seeing you fit the camera to adapters at high speed as I know what happens when you bend the connector pins... lol. I always fit mine with kid gloves now. x5r - will this handle that weight i wonder.
Hi Whirly, Please I need your help to fix my Zenmuse 5 Camera , it's been working fine since I got it but suddenly stopped responding to commands. Hope to hear from you. Omo.
Hi Whirly Bloke it's Bo who left the first request below, we have a busy schedule from next week running through to mid 2017 a lot of shooting abroad and would love to use the Z axis with our x5 I wonder if you could make a complete spring/shock unit including bolts please?? If you can let me know if you could and how much it would cost please? Many thanks!!
I too have had difficulty removing the captive washer. I used pliers to hold the captive washer and unscrew it but it did not work. Any recommendations?
I found the simplest way was to tightly and securely grip the captive washer with some narrow pliers and slowly unscrew the bolt. At first it seems the nut is not coming undone, but just keep turning and it will eventually come out. I'll put together short video showing how to do this.
@@WhirlyBloke Thank you I see them there for £22 I just wanna make sure that it will work on the pro version as well thank you for your help video was very good
@@RobertVernonAustralia That I'm not sure. i did this several years ago before a z-axis stabiliser even existed. I don't have a pro version to test it with.
It can be difficult to get the captive washer off the bolt, but just hold it with some pliers and unscrew it. The bolts dropped straight out of the bearings then.
good day very good point. is it possible to have this done and send to me. can you print the extension and the shock and you send it to me i can pay you for all that plus your service charges. please advice thank you
Hi Paul. The extension part is available on it's own here www.xcopters.co.uk/shop/3d-print/osmo-x5-z-axis-adapter-extention in several colours. Free UK delivery.
It's quite simple. When I wanted this the X5 version last year it wasn't available and needs must. I've used this on pretty much every single shoot I've done since making it and it's worked perfectly. And technically, a compression spring is better than an expansion spring for these purposes.
Have you tried it with the X3? I don't think the z-axis do a good job, so I was wondering if with the right calibration on the compression spring it would help? Tks
These are now available ready built www.xcopters.co.uk/shop/dji-osmo-x5-z-axis-damper
That was quite genius! Awesome solution!
There are so many on Amazon, I don't know which one to buy to modify it
These are a better solution in 2023 us.scottymakesstuff.com/collections/4th-axis-for-small-to-large-mirrorless-rigs
Do you have any sample footage with this adapter + X5R please? Thanks

I guess you didn't know about DJI part 57 - Z-axis for x5?
My design pre-dated the DJI Part 57 by nearly a year. I suspect DJI followed my lead.😀
@@WhirlyBloke Ah, makes sense. It still looks good, posssibly still better than the newer part 57 for x5.
Thanks man
No problem

Hi Fella,
Did you have any issues getting the bolt out of the bearings ? Mine doesn't seem to want to shift :(

AWESOME!!!~
Did you print the 3D part yourself ? Getting silly prices online for printing a one-off part :(
Are you UK based?
Whirly Bloke Yeah, I'm in West Yorkshire - Huddersfield

Whirly Bloke Cheers!
Why not buy the z axis for the x5
When this video was made the X5 version didn't exist.
Why would you do this rather than just buy the official Z-Axis that they've produced for the X5 instead of trying to use the one for the X3?
It's quite simple. When I wanted this the X5 version last year it wasn't available and needs must. I've used this on pretty much every single shoot I've done since making it and it's worked perfectly. And technically, a compression spring is better than an expansion spring for these purposes.
