      @@kerrileelawrence2402 Please tell me you are joking? Cancer isn't even a virus that you would make in a lab. Most animals can develop cancer. It is just part of a body aging. Each time your cells replicate the DNA gets mutated a little. Sometimes these mutations happen in important places. The cell can then become cancerous because the genes needed to regulate cell growth are no longer working properly.

    • @Graffitus
      @Graffitus 4 роки тому +9

      @@KamiltheCamel I don't see the original comment, but I just wanted to mention that there are some cancers that are virally induced; in fact, HIV can induce lymphoma in some patients. Human papilloma virus can rarely induce cervical cancer in women. Even in animals we see virally-induced cancers; avian leukosis virus (a retrovirus, like HIV) can induce lymphoma in chickens. *Most* cancers are spontaneous, this is true, but there are some infectious cancers, too! For example, the esophageal worm in dogs, Spirocerca lupi, is a parasitic worm that can induce cancer. And both dogs and tasmanian devils have a type of tumor that is directly contagious via contact. For dogs, it's a tumor called the transmissible venereal tumor (TVT), and for tasmanian devils it's called devil facial tumor disease. And in humans, the spirochete bacteria Helicobacter pylori is thought to contribute to some types of stomach cancer, too. So yes I agree, for the most part cancer is spontaneous and is the product of accumulations of mutations - but there are some infectious/contagious causes, too. =)

    • @EdvotekInc
      @EdvotekInc  3 роки тому +1

      Edvotek offers multiple ELISA tests for educational purposes, available here: www.edvotek.com/search?keywords=ELISA
      One strip simulation is available here: www.edvotek.com/S-70
      Please note, while most of these experiments use real antibodies and substrates, they are simulations of the diagnostic test (i.e. the HIV strip test does not contain any HIV antibodies or antigens).

    Hi! I am a Biology student. According to my research, ELISA Method can be used to detect Cyanobacteria on freshwater. May I know how am I going to detect the cyanobacteria in the freshwater? What procedure will I use/follow? Thank you so much! your answer will be a big help for us, future researchers.

    • @EdvotekInc
      @EdvotekInc  3 роки тому +11

      Hi, great question! We at Edvotek have not specifically created an ELISA that looks for cyanobacteria, so I cannot provide a specific protocol. My suggestion would be to start with a search of the literature using PubMed to find a paper describing the assay you want to try, and using that as a starting point for the development of your protocol, including time, steps, and reagents.
      Hope this helps!

    New to ELISA! I have a quick question: is the color change because the detection substrate has interacted with the "sandwiched" antigen? I'm guessing no color changed means we don't have the antigen we are looking for?🤔

    • @EdvotekInc
      @EdvotekInc  Рік тому

      There are many different types of ELISA, so the complex that forms can be a little different depending on the specific assay (more info here: blog.edvotek.com/2021/01/14/all-about-the-elisa/). But, in brief, if the complex can form and the enzyme-linked detection antibody is present in a well, it can break down the substrate and produce color or light. If there is no signal, then the antigen-antibody complex has not formed. This generally means the antigen is not present, but there is always the possibility for experimental error which is why it is important to have reproducibility in your data!

    does the absorbance parallel the concentration? Could they be ran through a spectrophotometer to determine antibody concentration?

    • @EdvotekInc
      @EdvotekInc  3 роки тому +2

      This will be slightly different for every substrate, which is why we would create a standard curve from samples of known concentration. The absorbance of the standard curve samples would be measured using a spec, plotted on a graph, then the experimental sample compared to the graph.
      For more info, check our our experiment: www.edvotek.com/266. The lit covers creating and analyzing a standard curve.

    • @emilie6466

      The assay can be used to detect viruses, but that requires having the antigen of the virus and an antibody that binds to the antigen. Besides, RT-PCR is how we detect viruses nowadays and it is far more precise and accurate in quantifying viral load.
