  • When I first visited my local Chess academy in Cuba, my friend FM Michel Coto was already a strong player. He used to play me with time odds of 1 minute for him vs 5 minutes for me and he would still beat me.He has been out for a while and this is my chance to give him a hard time:) Hope you find some value in these games!

The most difficult part of chess is remaining indifferent to your loss.

Thank you for sharing this session with us.
I was hyper-competitive as a youth - always wanted to win and shied away from strong competition. That was decades ago, and I didn't play much chess except the odd game here or there - which I always lost.
I discovered NM Ramirez a few years ago - wanting to improve after a roommate coaxed me back into the game. Hell, I didn't even know how to castle - and didn't want to because the youth in me likened it to hiding. I still don't castle immediately - but that's my game if you would call it that
I saw two friends playing each other here - each striving to win but with no tension or animosity or fear. Two intelligent individuals at a board enjoying each other's company. I never knew Chess like that. It was always a test of wills and intelligence that I avoided for decades.
I haven't commented on the openings I didn't recognize, or the tactics I didn't perceive, or the clock management. I like boards with notation glyphs on the edges - but I've come to follow a bit slowly. Besides, I liked the board. I'm rambling.
Brother Robert, I'll check out your friend's channel. I admire how open and generous you are - not just in this case, but with all guests. You're not trying to protect your turf - and it's points like this that remind me that I chose the best coach for me. Thank you.

What’s the deal with that final game… I mean you appeared to resign after your friend blocks check with …Bc7 you can just play Bxc7+! Winning! Black can’t recapture with the queen because his rook on e8 falls with check and if he plays …kc8 you play Bd6 discovered check game over. Were you psyched out here?…. Oh I think I see.. you fell on time right?
