  • Sermon on the Mount E20 - We are now halfway through studying Jesus' most famous sermon, which brings us to the Lord’s Prayer. What’s the significance of a prayer being right here at the center? And what’s the purpose of regularly reciting a short prayer like this one? In this episode, Jon, Tim, and others kick off a five-part series on the Lord’s Prayer, exploring its structure, core ideas, and historical background.

Original Sermon on the Mount music by Richie Kohen

My comment is limited to the first 6 minutes. The rest was good of course, but the discussion about the Syrian nun and listening to her singing the prayer was simply incredible! Beyond wonderful

I’ve had stirrings in my heart for a while now that much of our prayers and praise should be sung.
Over and over scripture tells us to sing. Sing a new song. It seems like the tune doesn’t matter.
The Catholics also do something called Liturgy of the Hours where Psalms are sung at different hours during the day.
I believe YHWH is a mathematical genius. Singing to Him is a part of His science. It’s a vibration and frequency wave thing connects to Him in ways we don’t understand.
I’ve adopted the habit of singing Psalms every day. It’s transformative

I was cleaning my kitchen listening to this episode and heard the commission to Tents and call to submit our own sung versions of the Lord's Prayer, and the thought brought me to tears as my mind immediately started to invent a way to sing it like the doxologies I sang as a child before life changes that brought me out of that tradition. Thank you, Bible Project!

The conversation on liturgy is why I ultimately went towards Orthodoxy.

Adam (male + female), fell into temptation and took a bite  out of the kingdom, power, and glory, of our Heavenly Father. This prayer and all others need to be prayed in private. As a group, it needs to be prayed behind closed doors.

      I found this video: ua-cam.com/video/E84PFLtPsa0/v-deo.html
which seems to be a clip of one of Tims old classes ... but if you ever search for The Lords Prayer in Aramaic, you'll find lots of amazing videos, like this one: ua-cam.com/video/YkC_7AxXfLA/v-deo.html
      God bless :)

In Catholicism we have the Liturgy of the Hours which is sung at fixed time each day also follows what is talked about today in the presentation.

WOW! I'm blown away by the beauty of this podcast. And I really look forward to the coming further instalments.I wish there were some way to also learn Biblical Hebrew. It's so difficult to find resources that work, even if you can afford them.

Our Father who is in the skies may your name be recognized as holy
May your kingdom come and may your will be done as it is in the skies so also on the land
Our daily provision of bread give to us today and forgive us our debts just as we also have forgiven those indebted to us
And don't lead us to be tested but deliver us from the evil one
      Amen

29:00 Repetition has a place, for faster memorization but it can diminish the significance of what’s being said. If we believe the Almighty Father hears our request, and in fact knows what we need before we even think to ask, we need not ask once, save for the fact that we are commanded to do so, thus once a day, is sufficient, three times a day is pushing it. The repetition is also a violation of what Jesus Christ teaches us in the Sermon. I am therefore, confident that the Almighty finds such repetition obnoxious, and wants you all who do it, to stop! Paul says, never cease in prayer, you argue! Yes, every moment, we are in the presents of our Heavenly Father, and he knows our every thoughts! How much more so are we obligated to constantly ask him for help in keeping our thoughts pure?
“But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.” (Matthew 6:7-8, KJVA)

The Lord’s prayer is John 17. The our father is an example, given by Jesus, of how to pray. Jesus did not trespass, (sin), and therefore the prayer was not for him.

But wasn’t Jesus on earth “as a man”, divine in origin but also (temporarily at least) human during his time on earth.. and as a human, he was exposed to the potential to sin (wasn’t he tempted by the evil one-just as we all are?)
So, at least for me, the assertion by Tim that Jesus himself would have prayed this prayer just as He told us to is logical and true. You raised a valid point and I hope that God’s Blessings come upon you ❤
