    I can't believe this is how it ends when the prosecution's own witness said they didn't think the victim was hit by a car... THAT'S THE WHOLE CASE!

    • @cookiealexd123
      @cookiealexd123 4 дні тому +5

      Not necessarily. And it does get dicey regarding the specific charges. Did she ram him over with him in the center full speed? No. The evidence doesn't support that. I think we can all agree there are other ways she could have done it using the car. Could she have bumped Into him at an angle similar to the prosecutions theory at a lesser speed, with the snow causing him to zoom down then smack his head? or dragged him with him flying off as she turned and she sped away? Possible. And that would still be considered a hit and run/vehicular homicide. Even if the cause of death was the head smacking the Pavement and hypothermia. She lied minutes after dropping him off in those voicemails. The taillight is also interesting and I can go into that if you want. But I can see why they jurors would be fine with voting guilty. But did the prosecution do a bad job in their time constraints of proving likely manner of death involving the car? No. Hopefully it will be retried with better experts.

      The judge clearly said if the prosecutions theory is only equal to another theory they havent proven their case. The prosecutions case is clearly improbable. They cant explain how his injuries or lack of injuries can result from being hit by a car. Someone on the jury believes she did it without any evidence. Just trusting the police narrative and even disregarding the medical examiner.

    The fact that they didn’t return a “Not Guilty” verdict within the first two hours of deliberation is beyond terrifying… The prosecution didn’t come within a country-mile of proving a single charge ‘beyond a reasonable doubt’.
    This outcome shatters any remaining faith I had in the US justice system, and confirms a troubling reality: there must undoubtedly be tens of thousands of patently innocent people locked up in American prisons for crimes they clearly did not commit.
    Utter insanity.

      Of course, prison industrial complex needs slave labor. Look at 13th amendment. How else are they going to fill the prisons and make money on their back? Private prisons are a dystopian concept.

I can see people defaulting back to witness statements and what the defendant herself said. Those statements along with the tail light pieces are the entire case. Its not enough for most, but it was enough for some and I think that has to be respected. We don't all see things the same way.

    • @VenathTehN3RD
      @VenathTehN3RD 3 дні тому +5

      @@Blackened30 There might not be a smoking gun that points to what killed him, but there are dozens of smoking guns strewn about that point in pretty much any direction EXCEPT for a vehicular collision. Two experts with years of training and experience specifically in the field of reconstructing accidents from both a mechanical and biomechanical point of view saying in no uncertain terms that both the damage to the vehicle and injuries to JO were entirely inconsistent with a vehicle-pedestrian collision and would effectively have to overcome the physics and mathematics as we understand them isn't indicative that it was "less likely to have happened," it's a pretty definitive indication that it COULDN'T have happened.
      The fact that "we don't all see things the same way" doesn't prevent one of the parties involved from being objectively wrong. Plenty of people out there are convinced that the Earth is flat. The fact that they see something differently than the majority of us doesn't make their opinion worth of respect or consideration, because their opinion on the matter is in direct conflict with scientific evidence that blatantly contradicts their views. And that complete disregard for physical reality in favor of "Well, that's not what I think is the case" absolutely doesn't have to be respected.

    I really wish this was surprising to me, but I've been on a jury before. I and another juror were verbally attacked by the other jurors for daring to express any doubt or mistrust of the police. Some people truly worship the police and refuse to see anything wrong because "well, they're the police, it must have been justified!" The police are just regular people. They can be wrong, too. And unfortunately, some people have the mindset that "well, they wouldn't be here in the first place if they were innocent" and completely ignore "innocent until proven guilty."

    Can someone explain why the US doesn't let jurors discuss the case amongst themselves during the trial? In Australia, we get to discuss the evidence as we hear it and we get to review the transcripts in deliberations. If you can't discuss the case at all until deliberations, how can you let the judge know someone on the jury is not engaging with the trial in good faith and get them yeeted? If jurors can only rely on the published exhibits and their own notes, how can you get a unanimous verdict in any long trial like this?!

    • @theConquerersMama

      I was told it's because it's the attorneys jobs to present the cases. If jurors talk during the trial/compare notes they are already deliberating and arguing the case- perhaps adding or changing the attorneys' case.
      Having served on juries- I wish there were better instructions on how to do it from the get go & frankly competency tests. I know some on our jury didn't understand the vocabulary & had to have explained a lot. Plus in our state, we didn't know what the sentencing might be. So I think that can impact people's decisions.

They weren't taking any chances - that poor pup is gone, for good. And, there may be some blood and DNA buried their too. Also, Lally lied in his closing argument - changing times to meet HIS ridiculous timeline and claiming there was no other DNA on JO's body, which there was. Lally, in my opinion would do anything to win this case for his boss, And his boss may have brought it because of pressure that was put on by his financial contributors who may have been friends with the real suspects. I find this really hard to comprehend. There was literally nothing to suggest that the victim was hit by a car. There were no witnesses that saw anything to suggest that he was hit by a car. The only evidence that suggests it was from a police officer who decided off his own back without doing any investigation that Karen was to blame, and the other officers who wanted to back up their colleague. A conclusion he came himself to that he had no feasible explanation for. I'm absolutely lost on this. How does this happen?

    The jury selection needs to be reevaluated. More screening, background checks, inteligence levels etc. They took an oath and clearly some members were not willing to stick to it.
    Next trial, the jury needs to be sequestered and the trial time cut in half.

    Wondering if someone on the jury is too close to police department or was warned away from guilty. This feels sketchy.we need a link for her defense fund.

    I've only served on a jury once, and we were also a mistrial, because only myself and one other person felt that an armed guard pummeling an unarmed and unresisting man before throwing him skull-first into a concrete pillar was *not* self defense. The elderly retired cop on the jury insisted that it was entirely justified, because the guy was rude to the guard, and *could've* become violent. The other antediluvians on the jury immediately switched from "undecided" to "not guilty" as soon as the ex-cop spoke up. The couple of other younger folks never spoke up to explain their position, they just went with the majority.
    It was so extremely frustrating: the stuff the older folks used to justify their decision was absolutely irrelevant--just anything necessary to impugn the character of the victim.
    I felt like that spongebob meme ("This wallet has your name on it, so it's your wallet, right?" "Nope."). I walked them through each logical step of how the guard's actions fit the criteria of the crime, and were *not* self defense, and they would agree with me on each point...then just say "but it was self defense!". At one point, I got them to agree that it would've been wrong for the guard to hit the guy in the head with a chunk of concrete after his flurry of punches to the guy's face..."Yeah, that would obviously be wrong". But they blue-screened when I said "that's what he did, except he threw the victim instead of the concrete".
    So frustrating. And that was a case with extremely clear footage of the entire event, and no dispute about the actual actions taken, or the identities of the involved parties. I cannot imagine the absolute travesty of reason that must've taken place during the deliberation of the Karen Read jury. Whoever sat through all that testimony and still thought that the Commonwealth had proven their case needs to be tested for carbon monoxide poisoning.

    I got called for federal grand jury duty once. I was a government major and wanted to do it. It was every Monday for six weeks unless it was a political political or international drug case. My dad cautioned me bc of the danger of being involved in a corrupt political case but was scared of me possibly being involved in anything involving cartels. I ended up not doing it bc i had just graduated college, looking for a job and had a baby. He said it could be dangerous for my son. I filled out out and marked that I had a child. I was excused. This was only hypothetical and it was only grand jury, not a real trial. I can completely see a jury being scared of a corrupt law enforcement voting for a mistrial bc it could be dangerous. If they retry it, it should be moved far away. Everyone in town has heard about this csse. So has everyone in other cities, but another jury in another city won't have to go back to their everyday lives in a corrupt cit. It is horrible. But ît happens. If i had been chosen and ended up on a grand jury cartel case, and i felt threatened, it would have been impossible to do the right thing with my newborns safety at risk. I keep saying cartel bc that was actually mentioned in my subpoena. They shouldn't retry her.

    I rewatched Trooper Paul’s testimony and I have no clue how anyone can believe that nonsense. His poor mother. 😢 💔 I really think the Defense shot themselves in the foot with calling only 3 witnesses. They were excellent witnesses, but they really should’ve spent more time on their case.

    This was not based on the evidence. The CW did not come close to establishing that JOK was even hit by a car, let alone by Karen - they barely even presented a case for it. So - either directly or indirectly (through media etc) - they got to some jurors.

    This would’ve been an easy not guilty if it wasn’t such a popular case. They should seek to change county/judge and wait until media stop covering it.
