- Today for this episode of Small Wonders we will be talking about Harvey Houses, the Harvey Girls, and their legacy of settlement in the American West. But before we talk about the Harvey Girls, it’s important to first understand Fred Harvey.

Thank you! This was so interesting and informative! Women had an opportunity to travel , live, and work in areas they would never have seen otherwise!
I wonder what it would take to recreate some of the Harvey House experiences, such as menu items and certain waitstaff practices such as coffee cup communications? Essentially creating a modern Harvey House?
I can think of several tourist lines and historical rail journeys, such as the Pullman Rail Journeys and the Durango and Silverton , that might benefit from the additional historical authenticity provided by a restaurant that recreated a Late-Era Harvey House restaurant as close to fully-authentic as possible while still complying with modern standards and laws.
