I built my wife a TOM680 with Akko switches and Keycaps which I did EVA, PE foam and Tempest mod on. I also tuned the stabs. It has since given her an unprecedented experience in typing. She has been using it on her iPad and she keeps on telling me she enjoys using it. This board has great value for its cost.
Great vid as always sir Caloy! :) As per the known issues; I've got my own TM680 and it has been working for the past 4 months on rotation, the problems seems to be stock cable that is included in the box. Users from the group reported that they're TM680's (wired) we're fried because of the stock cable, I however used another cable from the start and haven't had my PCB fried (hopefully never). The Gamakay board may not have that problem though since it's an update tri-mode PCB, and afaik it has been addressed already, just let an eye out on that stock cable. ++Oh and you could try out acrylic and polycarb plates on that, SleepyLT, a fellow youtuber made plates for that board specifically on shopee! :)
Thank you! Ohhh, I also never used the stock cable. Lucky hehe. Yeah I've seen those plates by SleepyLT and the POM one too by PMX.GG. Maybe if I decide to mod this thing further for another video 😁
Hello regarding alternative cables, can i use usb C charging cables for the board? This is the first keyboard that I ordered and am planning to mod and i'm fairly new to this stuff... I got the tri mode one
That one's definitely on my radar 😁. I've always wanted to do a stacked acrylic build too hehe. Unfortunately, it's quite a bit more expensive through local channels than it is on Taobao so I've been hesitant 😅
I got the barebone Gamakay LK67 I had to update the firmware of the keyboard on the old software in order to use the new software version just a heads up for anyone new and wondering about it
Have you ever tried felt sound dampening/absorption? They use it a lot for a bunch of different audio applications. I've used 2mm felt fabric before and it sounds amazing. Way better than any foam I've tried.
Oh no sorry to hear that. You can remove the top without unscrewing anything. The way I do it is by pushing up and out at the same time at the points where the clips are. There's one near the caps lock and another near left control and I usually pull those two first at the same time then work my way around the case.
If I can't remove the knob, I pry the entire top case off and that takes the knob along with it. The way I do it is by pushing up and out at the same time at the points where the top case clips are. Thank you! Oops link should be in the description now. I got them off Shopee Philippines though. I was also able to find the same ones on AliExpress. Not sure where else you might be able to get them hehe
I've tried a few different keycaps and they all do the same, so I guess I got a bad board? . When I press down on a keycap like caps lock and tab the keycap wobbles left and right. I like this board but this issue really bothers me. do u know why these keycaps are doing this?
Understandable its kinda hard to explain over text XD. I can send a short vid on twitter so you can see what im talking about. Someone else mentioned the switches but ive tried like 3 different switches and some keycaps like i mentioned so idk atp lol. Edit- I posted a vid on my channel so that way you and anybody else can help.
I've watched the video and, unfortunately, that's pretty normal behavior. It happens to the longer keys without stabilizers precisely because they're long and don't have stabilizers. It's like a seesaw. I'm not really sure what you'd be able to do to eliminate that. To minimize it, you might have to find a switch with a minimal amount of wobble. From what I've seen, pretty much all switches have some amount of wobble though. You might also want to try slipping some tape into the stems of the keycaps to tighten the fit. I'm not sure if that'll help but it's worth a shot if this is really bothering you.
Haven't tried Lilacs yet. If I understand correctly, they're the usual JWK recolors with the PC tops. In general, I don't like those. I find their top out sound too thin and high-pitched but that's preference.
This is where I bought them: shopee.ph/30Pcs-bag-Fishing-O-Shaped-Ring-Tippet-Connect-Rubber-Ring-Fishing-Line-Connector-Fishing-Buffer-Fishing-Tackle-i.110716569.1773052684?position=5
How many layers of Painter's Tape did you apply? Also recommend covering the Akko ACR series, they are quite popular within the country. Keep up the great work!
Can you please do a silicone pour tutorial or something like things to keep in mind while silicone pouring this board. Since this is my first custom build I am a bit nervous due to the battery being their. Thanks! And as always a great video✌
Thank you! I am actually planning a future video featuring a silicone pour but on a different board without a battery 😅. I asked Keybored about this and he said: "I just poured it around the battery and it worked out perfect!"
The RKG68 is actually really good for much less money with about the same feature set: 65%, tri-mode, north-facing. It doesn't have a knob though but it does have a daughter board and it turned out better when I modded it than this did. You can check out my GF keyboard build video for more info hehe
You mean the cable for your phone? I really don't know anything about cables. I just assumed that whatever cable would work before I learned of the possible issue with this stock cable. In theory, it should work fine. I actually use the charging cable that came with my Nintendo Switch Pro Controller for my keyboards.
I linked it in the description but it's from Shopee Philippines. Not sure where else to get them outside of the PH. I think I saw similar ones on AliExpress
IQunix L80 Cosmic Traveller is what you're looking for. Trust me. It's their only board with Southfacing switches and cherry stabs. Sounds so good with a couple mods. The case is like, perfectly thocky
There are a few ways. You could use a keycap profile other than Cherry. Most other profiles will not interfere although I've had experience with thick OEM profile keycaps still interfering. You could use a switch where the stem peeks out of the housing during bottom out. This isn't a guarantee though. I've had switches like these still interfere with certain Cherry keycaps on row 3. Akko switches also have a different top housing shape that seems designed to reduce interference. But again, not a guarantee. Would depend on the specific keycap set. Unfortunately, the best way really is to use a south-facing keyboard lol
After purchasing this keyboard I can now say with confidence that this is somehow not an accurate review of this board. My board doesnt sound hollow at all and it is stock...

Loved all configs tbh. Great job!
Thank you! 🙏🏼
It's actually a pretty cool base. Got myself a TM680 some time ago, good deal.
it would be pretty epic if you covered the mw65, a good budget option from what ive heard and you can finally experience the 'flex' phenomenon:)

@@CaloysKeyboards yep, i checked shopee and they increased the price after lewis and glarses covered it
Yeah that's also when I learned about it. Bummer lol

Do you know how to change the input mode if the switch brakes off

Ohhh I haven't tried that. I'll have to check it out hehe
Do you reckon, doing a silicone pour on top of the felt fabric is pointless or would it multiply the dampening effect?
recently built this board for my friend and pretty good board for the price. enjoyed the video too!
Nice! Thank you! 🙏🏼
If you like amazon and trust them put Tm680 in the amazon search and you should find the gamakay Lk67 they have both pre-built and barebones
How is the angle for this keyboard? Any adjustments? Any need for wrist rest?
It's not particularly high. No need for a wrist rest, I'd say.
Cool build! May I ask for tips on getting the knob off? I tried pliers but I couldn't put a lot of force into it so as not ruin the stock knob :(
Thank you! Yeah it's really hard to get off. The best way I found is to actually pull off the top of the case. That will take the knob along with it 😅
@@CaloysKeyboards thanks for replying! that was my second option except the 2 screws are messed up so i'm having a hard time getting them off 💔

Hmm not sure what you mean by wobbling. Does it only happen on those longer keys without stabilizers? Not on 1u keys like the alphas?
@@CaloysKeyboards yep only on the ones that don’t have stabs and maybe not wobble more like lean
Hmm I'm still not sure what you mean lol. But if it happens with different keycaps then maybe it's the switch?

would lavender switches work in this keyboard?
I used Lavenders in this video. I talk about it in the 'Switch+Keycap Configs' chapter at 4:49 and then the sound test for the Lavs is at 07:49

Yes, essentially. They're just branded differently it seems.
Nice video, I wish there were more iSO compatible boards in this price range.
Probably better this way though, it's easier on my wallet this way xD
Could you please try out the Jwk quartz switches
I'll look into it hehe
Do you know the stabilizer sizes?
Sorry not sure what you mean by size. Do you mean the spacebar? It's 6.25u.
How many layers of Painter's Tape did you apply? Also recommend covering the Akko ACR series, they are quite popular within the country. Keep up the great work!

Hello bro, can I ask you about size of o ring you use for this keyboard?
Outer diameter is about 4mm, hole diameter about 1.5mm, and thickness about 1mm
the software provided is not detecting the keyboard , have faced that issue?
I mentioned that in this video at 1:40. The software that worked for me is linked in the description.
@@CaloysKeyboards thanks for the reply🤗
Hi sir Caloy, is gmmk pro knob a good pair on this keyboard? TIA
Check the video at 2:20. They fit but are a bit smaller leaving a gap but I think it looks fine.
I want a 65% but the issue with the board shorting out might be a problem for me. Are there any alternatives around the same price?

Totally! That may have been what they were going for with this colorway but they went too orange instead of pink hehe
hello, what switches are compatible with the tm680?
It's 5-pin universal hotswap so pretty much any MX-style switch should be compatible.
Better stick to box switches to avoid interference
I've got the Box Inks on it now and they work great hehe
