    I've often found that long pauses on any type of retrieval with jerk baits can make all the difference. It is usually my go to if I'm struggling for a bite. Great video as always 👍

      Yep agree. That’s the beauty and advantage of jerkbaits….. they can be suspended where many other baits sink too quickly

    Great video, super helpful!
    I had quite some luck in the Spring in some smaller water using the low floating official roach, however in the bigger and much deep lake I just cannot seem to get a bite on these. So what you said does make a lot of sense.

    Bought a few different types for different applications but broke my ribs collarbone and shoulder blade in a fall which put a halt to my fishing for this year basically. Well done Tom on another video please keep them coming. I even bought 2 Westin 6 rods and 2 Shimano Vanford reels to accommodate so will have to fixate on next years campaign

    Jorgen Larsson also has a technique shown on one of his updates / videos where he makes one long sweep action with the rod … then reels slack (fast) this puts a great action on the swim lure … one of my favourite lures 👍🏻

    Hi thom the swim is a great lure, however it would be great to see them without a rattle as a lot of waters are pressured now and a noisy lure can sometimes put them off.
    Great content as always

      Yes totally agree…. The more pressured a water then silent baits work better. 👌

    I have recently attached a tail to one of these and it works a treat. The tail is from a hard eel lure.

      I’ve done the same with a large curly tail grub but not tried it yet…. Let me know how you get on!

    • @lexingtonlad5745
      @lexingtonlad5745 Рік тому +1

      @@Thomhuntfishing the tail works OK but it creates a straight retrieve. I'll leave the tail off during the cold months as they are only taking suspending baits at the moment and not chasing lures. I've been using the 15cm suspending swim in natural pike, the jacks are hammering it.

    Hey Tom. Now that it‘s getting colder I try to find some sort of glove for fishing especially with BC. Can you recommend some models or what do you do if hands get cold. Thx a lot man. I really love you content. It‘s super helpful. Tim

    • @Thomhuntfishing
      @Thomhuntfishing  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Tim, yeah so this is a tricky subject as I hate lure fishing with gloves as you lose all the feel but I also know how painful it is when your hands get really cold. For me, I try to fish without gloves 99% of the time and make sure my body is really wrapped up well. If you keep your core temp nice and high your hands/feet shouldn’t get too cold. If they do, I tend to stop fishing and warm up with warm drinks/walking briskly on the bank but avoid gloves as much as I can!

    What are your thoughts when it comes to chancing spots vs changing lures. It‘s super hard to decide when to try some other lures and when to just move on to the next spot. Is there anything you can say about that? Thx a lot

    • @Thomhuntfishing
      @Thomhuntfishing  Рік тому

      Hi Tim, sorry for the delay only just seen this message! If I’m in an area that I know holds fish then it’s either a case of changing baits/presentation (remember the same bait at a different speed or different depth can also completely change your catch rate) or simply waiting for a time when they want to feed. As a tournament angler I don’t get the luxury of Dawn/dusk feeding periods so typically go to an area….. spend roughly 10-15mins on each bait, swapping lures regularly…. Then if no bites I go looking for more fish that may be more active

    Do You think, jerk baits can be effective on any water? I never was a fan of jerks, but while i was fishing glacial lakes of Poland i had effects using them just a little from time to time and in uk where i live now i have never had effects neither on the canal or reservoir i fish… just wondering is it a lure that works everywhere while you learn how to work them?

    • @Thomhuntfishing
      @Thomhuntfishing  2 роки тому +2

      That’s an interesting point you make, I have definitely had days when they work brilliantly and then days on the same waters where I can’t get a bite on them. Time of year is important, for me they are a classic spring and early summer time bait. Maybe some waters if the pike feed differently, say mostly in deep water or if they eat a lot of bait off the bottom like crayfish or grondels then midwater baits won’t be as effective

  • @danielnystrom7310
    @danielnystrom7310 2 роки тому +1

    Cast out, leave alone 3 seconds, quick twitch, reel slow, stop, leave hanging. Reel slow, speed up slow down. Thats how i do... pike learn the swim so change it as you go and you will catch. 3D official roach 12cm works best for me.

    • @Thomhuntfishing
      @Thomhuntfishing  4 місяці тому

      Yes but need to keep the speed quite slow and it will run pretty shallow. A better trolling hard bait is the Westin Rawbite in 11,15 or 17cm
