    Man that looks like a torque monster! I'm seriously shopping this bike as I have wanted one since the first one was dropped in the 80s! Coming from an older 05 FZ 1, want the cruiser stance but I don't think I can lose my power, plus, I personally believe that this is probably the best looking motorcycle I've ever seen. Be cautious.

      But 90% of my time on bike I am below 120...
      Maybe even 95%
      Plus sitting on the VMax is way more comfortable than on any other bike of that performance class including the diavel (not test ridden a rocket 3 though).
      Another plus is the purity of that bike. No electronic junk, no helpers and no ride modes. Take the bike as it is or leave it. This is for adults only

    Where I live there would be some idiot in left lane going 50 mph every half mile.and police riding behind half of them as if they're doing nothing wrong.and the engineers at Dot can't figure out why traffic is so bad.their solution is always to spend several years and billions of dollars to add more lanes.traffic is no better.I have an idea,if you catch someone NOT PASSING in the left lane write them a 500.00 ticket for the first offense,1000.00 for the second offense and suspend their license for a year on the third offense.no more traffic jams, problem solved.

    SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCE IN THE "VBOOST" OF THE OLDER VMAX BIKES, AND THE NEW VMAX BIKES. DO THE NEW ONES EVEN STILL HAVE WHAT USED TO BE CALLED "VBOOST" IN THE OTHER ONES?

    • @leeschultzracing522
      @leeschultzracing522 7 років тому +1

      Yes its totally different now the intake that sits over the throttle bodys lift up and give it a tunnel ram almost and which gives it a supercharger effect. The old vmax the carbs would open all at once to feed all cyclinders. Probably didn't explain it best but thats a fast way of saying it. Both bikes are so much fun. Only the first gens are sleepers. Second gen looks fast

    • @InsanityHere
      @InsanityHere 7 років тому

      OK, WHAT I UNDERSTAND FROM A PREVIOUS EXPLANATION IS THAT THE INTAKES ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BIKE ARE CONNECTED VIA A TUBE, WHICH HAS A VALVE IN THE MIDDLE. WHEN ONE OF THOSE CYLINDERS IS ABOUT TO START THE INTAKE STROKE, THAT VALVE IN THE CONNECTING TUBE WILL OPEN TO DRAW MIXTURE "FROM THE OTHER CYLINDER" (AND THE SAME FOR THE PAIR OF CYLINDERS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BIKE.
      WHAT i JUST DESCRIBED IS WHAT I UNDERSTAND "VBOOST" TO BE.
      MY QUESTION IS DO THE NEWER 1700 VMAXS HAVE THAT VBOOST SYSTEM? PLEASE BE DETAILED. THANK YOU.

      @paulranges8363 7 років тому +8

      Ray Charles , the newer VMAX has a computer controlled variable intake runner length. Long intake runners give you torque off the bottom, but hurts horsepower at the top end. At 6500 rpm, an electronic motor will lift the long runners up, exposing a very short intake runner. Short intake runners suck on take off, but work best at higher rpms, giving you better horsepower. With that being said, it gives you the best of both,,,, torque to help you launch, and then the higher horsepower for the top speed. It also works in conjunction with the "exup" system inside the catalytic converter. It consists of butterfly valves that are closed during low RPM's to give your exhaust much needed back pressure, which also gives you your bottom end torque for launching hard. At around 4200 RPM's, the valves open up, letting your exhaust breathe better, thereby giving you better top end horsepower. They say that these 2 systems combined increase the horsepower by around 10% above 6500 rpm. I own a 2014 model. Bone stock and it ran a 10.87 second 1/4 mile at 128 mph. Bought it last year and have over 23,000 miles on it already.

      PAUL RANGES, THANKS FOR A MOST CONCISE EXPLANATION - SOMETHING THAT LACKS IN MANY MANY PEOPLES' EXPLANATIONS. VERY BASIC AUTOMOTIVE FUNCTIONS REALLY, I JUST DIDN'T KNOW HOW THE NEWER VMAX DID IT.

    • @sstroh08

      The gen 1 vmax basically has "secondaries" acting kind of like that on an old 4 barrel carb on an old muscle car. It has 4 individual carbs. One per cylinder. Between the left two and right two carbs is a passage separated by a butterfly valve on each passage which are controlled by a little electric servo between the two sets of carbs. (The sound you hear when you turn the key on is that servo function testing its self) Under normal riding the butterflies stay shut making each cylinder run off its own carb. This makes it a somewhat more mild mannered (somewhat key word here lol) bike when just put putting around and makes so you can get a little better fuel economy. Also it keeps it from having to be set extremely rich for running low rpms/idling. Now the fun part haha. When you drop the ol hammer at around 5500 rpm the servo starts opening the two butterfly valves fully opening them by like 7500 rpm or so (can't remember exact rpm figures off hand). Once they're open each cylinder starts breathing through two carbs instead of one obviously giving it a doubled shot of air and fuel and a massive kick in the ass haha! For instance the front left cylinder will pull fuel from the front left carb normally. Once the butterflies are open it will pull from the front left AND rear left carb. As will the rear left cylinder. The right rear cylinder will pull front the front right and rear right carb (with butterflies open) as will the front right cylinder. I'm not sure the HP increase but it is substantial!

    As a vmax gen 2 owner. The one thing you must understand about these bikes are they a cruisers. Thats it cruisers. Now they have sport bike power and acceleration but in no way do they have the handling of a sportbike. The heavy and the wheel base is long . Stability is great at high speed but id like anyone to ride at 100 plus miles an hour for any length of time. It just wont happen due to the wind and driving position. So the outcome . If anyone in my opinion wants the best cruiser ever made . Buy a vmax gen 2 . If you want a sports bike . Buy a sports bike .
