Val Kilmer had two tracheotomies and lost his voice in real life due to throat cancer, so it was interesting seeing how they incorporated his condition into the story. When Iceman speaks, that's Val talking, but with some digital alterations to increase the clarity, as he usually has to use a digital voice box to communicate. Tom Cruise reportedly refused to film the sequel unless they managed to fit Val in somehow.
I heard part of the digital building of his voice included having Val's son record the audio as well, which is pretty neat. Truly wild what can be done these days. So glad they included Val in the film. Wouldn't have felt right without him.
Kilmer lost his voice, he can't speak and there was no "digital alteration". They recreated his voice using A.I. Sonantic, the company that did and that had alreadh worked with Val Kilmer before, put hours of Kilmer’s archival recordings through an A.I. to generate a voice model that is a vocal clone of the actor.
I love that, not just for the Easter egg, but because it makes her seem like the love of Maverick's life. Which is cool. I mean he's lost Goose, he loses Ice, but he reconnected with Penny and Amelia. It's a glimpse of a life beyond the Navy, which is something Mav's never really had before. And I ADORE that she's the only one who calls him "Pete." Everyone else calls him "Maverick" or "Mav," which shows that she and Pete have a special relationship. Everyone else knows the legend; she knows the man.
@@LokRevenant That's due to everyone else he knows being a Naval aviator too. We are called by our callsigns in the air and on the ground. Which is bad for one of the wingman I flew with ;) nothing like getting the callsign "punchout" to add salt to the wound
Alyska, that scene made it into your reaction to the original. Look at the 4-minute mark of your video - their C/O is including it while reminding Maverick that his record isn't exactly spotless, and when Goose hears "...of one admiral's daughter!", he looks over at Mav and whispers "Penny Benjamin?".
Son, your ego is writing checks your body can't cash. You've been busted, you lost your qualifications as section leader three times, put in hack twice by me, with a history of high speed passes over five air control towers, and one admiral's daughter! 🤣
Everyone sleeping on the fact that when Jennifer Connelly is first seen in her bar, David Bowie is playing in the background. Nice little Labrynth homage there from the director.
Yup, Penny Benjamin was Maverick's love interest before Charlie. She was mentioned twice in the original Top Gun, first at the beginning of the movie when they're getting their asses chewed out by Commander Jardian after Cougar turns in his wings, and then Penny is mentioned again in the "Great Balls of Fire" bar scene by Goose's wife.
Vaguely edited, the scene at 30:59 where Rooster says, "Come on Mav, do some of that pilot shit!" is such an underrated reference to Goose! Who says the same thing during the first movie! I don't think there is a better homage to Goose than that! And when Mav says I am sorry Goose I had goosebumps all over!
Gotta say I love this entire movie, but one thing that REALLY got me was Goose's face when Mav tells him to punch out, and you could FEEL the poor boy quickly flashing back to the fact that he's flying RIO in the same plane as what killed his Dad... and then the other horror when the eject doesn't even work. Honestly, I'm glad that we got the delay from Covid in this one regard. This movie is a fine-tuned machine, an instant classic.
What I love about this is Hangman's character arc. He started off as a complete douchebag but over the course of the film he was humbled. He wasnt picked as part of the first team on the final mission but he took it on the chin and ended up being the one who saves the day. He still retained his cockiness but he had a newfound humility to temper that.
Eh, if I was to be a bit picky, I kind of wish we got to see a scene with how Hangman goes after them. Like maybe have him still be on the carrier while he’s listening to what’s happening to Maverick and Rooster. Hangman begins to think about what Maverick told everyone about "Never leaving your wingman." or "Don't think, just do.", and so decides to go after them. But Vice Admiral Simpson and Bates order him to stand down and that there’s nothing they could do. To which Hangman on intercoms says something like, “Seriously?” or “F*** off.”. The Vice Admirals order him him 2 - 4 more times to stand down or they will relieve Hangman of duty. To which the other Top Gun grads then get in the 2 men’s way, giving a look that says, "You relieve Hangman, you relieve all of us.". Things are about to get confrontational, until they get a call that the F-14 Tomcat with Maverick and Rooster are coming back, to which Simpson and Bates agree to send Hangman to make sure the two get back safety. Now that I think would be a perfect balance of conflict, while also giving the team a moment to show that they stand with one another, even improving Hangman's arc.
As a die-hard Top Gun fan (since it first came out), I didn't hesitate to say this was a far superior movie to the original in so many ways. The plot, whilst still fairly simplistic, was far more nuanced than the original, the characters were fleshed out better (and it wasn't just a 3 man show like lsat time) and , honestly, as groundbreaking as they were at the time, the aerial sequences are better too. Bravo Tom. This plus the last Mission Impossible movie coming out soon feels like Cruise might be trying to bow out on a high.
Completely agree, I ADORE the original movie but this is just (and I hesitate to say it) damn near perfect. Its not overly complciated in storyline, the characters are mostly kinda cliche and it doesnt really do anything hugely surpriseing and yet... its so so much more than the sum of its parts and sooooo much better than it really has ANY right to be. Its just pure unadulterated entertainment and I cannot remember walking out of the cinema with a bigger grin on my face than I did after watching this (the first of many times!). Its just a masterclass in how to just make a damn fun movie! All too often folks lose track of that trying to create art in their films and forget that first and foremost a movie is meant to be entertainment. It aint gonna win any oscars but I have yet to meet ANYONE who has seen it who didnt absolutely love it, even in cases of folks I know who dont really like the original.
I do love this one, but of the two, give me the original any day. Without the original, there wouldn't be this one. Also, while both the F-14 Tomcat and the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet are very capable, there is NO fighter jet that can beat the Tomcat's swagger and style. The F-22 Raptor comes close, though.
Tom will be running and gunning into his 90s man lol no way he's bowing out any time soon. The guy loves movies and will probably keep making them until he literally physically can't anymore.
@@KS-xk2so I was going to say the same thing. TC will continue to make movies until he isn't capable. There might even be a MI:20 or something like it. (Yes, I know these are supposed to be the last 2).
Penny was mentioned at the beginning of the first movie when Maverick gets chewed out. She was an admiral’s daughter so even all these years later he still gets in trouble with them.
Jennifer Connelly was in Labyrinth in 1986 with David Bowie (the same year Top Gun came out). Then when Maverick meets her in the bar, David Bowie is playing on the jukebox.
Just watched this movie two days ago & yes, this IS the best film of 2022 so far. Fun Fact: Due to Val Kilmer's throat illness, Val's character was voiced over in the movie by his son Jack. Great reaction video Alyska !!! Keep it going !!!
Did you get the Easter egg? When Maverick first meets Penny (Jennifer Connelly) in the bar!! Music by David Bowie plays in the background, with whom she filmed Labyrinth when she was 16.
I feel like this movie also pays tribute to the Legendary 'F-14 Tomcat' a True dogfighter no doubt..! That's why they had to use it one last time in this movie and vs. SU-57s wow..! Love this movie
In reality you’re right. But also in reality the f14 has been given up on and is outclassed by anything the US is currently using. Yeah it’s a bit faster in a straight line. But that’s about it.
@@chrisdef15 if only the could work on the super tomcat F21, long range, big radar and reliable engine; rather than the F35 that is pretty but expensive and short range.
14:43 people forget how great of an actor Tom Cruise really is. The scene was emotional, short and perfect knowing Val Kilmer's real life complications with throat cancer. Love that scene so much.
16:05 Fun fact: The beach scene was filmed twice actually. The first time, Tom Cruise felt it didn't look right. So they called the cast to tell them the beach scene would be reshot again the next day. Problem was, the cast had gone out to drink and have dinner to celebrate. When they got the call, they left immediately to go hit the gym to get their beach bodies back in peak condition.
I heard they re-shot it just after Christmas, so everyone was super bummed about having to miss out on all the good holiday eats, plus Tom Cruise always sends all his co-stars a cake every Christmas, he's famous for it. So not only is Tom making them shoot it again, he's tempting them with delicious treats right before hand hahaha!
0:55 I forgot to mention this on the first Top Gun vid: While they did possibly (probably) overuse "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins and "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin, the whole soundtrack was really good (especially the "Top Gun Anthem" by Harold Faltermeyer & Steve Stevens). Also, and perhaps not coincidentally, both of those songs were massive hits when I was in junior high. 🤘🎶

I loved this movie, the action, cinematography, story, characters, subtle romance, motorcycles were done perfectly. One of my few 10/10 films and probably up there in my favourite films with og Star Wars. A fucking masterpiece The actors deserve all the credit in the world for their performance and dealing with the pressure of flying the jets. And credit to just everyone involved
@alyska I like your reaction to everything but especially the “great balls of fire bar scene”. It was a perfectly shot scene… switching to the bar scene 36 yrs ago, then maverick’s face now and the look on penny’s face. … as she was smiling, then turning to a genuine look of concern when she saw maverick’s sadness… through the window. For most of the older folks here… it’s a reminder of how much time has passed… and having memories of good old times when we were young.. and people we have lost.
Very few box office experts even gave it a chance to earn$700-800 million at worldwide box office without China and Russia... It's truly amazing how much beyond box office estimates and general expectations it performed.
Kelly McGillis, the original love interest, says she's too old and too fat to have returned for Top Gun Maverick. If Tom looked noticeably older, it might have worked...but he currently looks nearly 20 years younger than her.
I know right!!! She didn't age well!!! Saw her online and was like wow!!! Tom seems to be aging in reverse! The volleyball scene, no homo, but he's still cut!!!! I might have to look into scientology😂
They were just a fling in the first movie anyway, both her and Maverick were married to their careers and independent people for anything long term to happen with each other
The reason you were engaged so early in this film is because of the original. As good as this movie is (and I loved it) , it couldn't be this great without the original.
Even though it has been released to streaming services, it’s still on in cinema, if you get a chance, go see it where it was meant to be viewed… the big screen… and IMAX is THE best way to view it. “At least he didn’t die” - he’s indestructible. Ejecting at Mach 10.4 would literally turn the human body to mush, he should be a visceral cloud of pink mist. “I guarantee he’s gonna end up flying it”. Calling it again? You’re good, you’re very good, in fact, you are too good to be true. The bar scene with Rooster playing Great Balls Of Fire, Miles Teller learned the song and this is a live take, the cast and extras all joined in. It was so good that this version was added to the OST, and a music video is available too. Maverick really hits it home how much he wants them all to survive this almost suicide mission: “your job is to teach them how to work as a team, and how to strike the target.” “And how to come home… and how to come home, sir.” “Every mission has its risks, these pilots accept that.” “I don’t, sir.” And debriefing the failed practice runs: “Is there a reason you didn’t communicate with your team?” “I was focusing on..” “One that their family will accept at the funeral?” “None, sir.” “Why didn’t you anticipate the turn?” “I..” “Don’t tell me, tell it to his family.” 😬 “It’s not the plane, it’s the pilot.” “Exactly!” “And he’s saying you’re shit.” 😂 yep. “What’s come back?” Throat cancer. Val Kilmer had throat cancer, and part of his treatment for it was a tracheotomy (part of his trachea removed), so he can’t speak anymore. They incorporated that into the film. When Mav climbs down from Penny’s window and Amelia catches him… she had to already know he was there, his bike is parked outside the front door, she would’ve seen it when she came home. “Is there no one else in the back?” Coyote flies the single seat E model of the F-18, same as Maverick, Rooster and Hangman, while Phoenix/Bob and Payback/Fanboy fly the dual seat F model. So Coyote is it that cockpit on his own. This scene kicks off an absolute emotional rollercoaster of events… tension for Coyote‘s blackout, relief as he recovers, more tension for the birdstrike and Phoenix and Bob having to eject, relief when we hear they are ok, even more tension as Mav and Rooster argue, followed by sadness as we learn Ice has passed away… and breathe. The entire F-14 escape sequence is my favourite part, from when they have both just been shot down, their little “I saved your life”, “I saved YOUR life” interaction, starting up the old girl, “wave and smile”, “don’t think, just do”, and the ensuing dogfight… damn good cinema! 30:47 “what the...”, “…fuck was that?” THAT EDITING THOUGH!!!! “Do you think Hangman’s gonna save them?” How do you do this? Are you secretly the script writer? 😂 “Thank you for saving my life.” “It’s what my dad would’ve done.” 🥲 Top Gun: Maverick trivia: Miles Teller revealed that during the flight training, only three of the cast who were taken up in the jets, including himself, didn’t throw up. Anthony Edwards, who played Goose in Top Gun, was the only cast member who didn’t throw up during training for the original… like father, like son. There is a disclaimer at the end of the credits that says “no animals were harmed in the making of this film”, referring to the birdstrike scene 😂 The opening scene was filmed as an homage to original Top Gun director Tony Scott, who sadly took his own life in 2012. Lady Gaga worked with Hans Zimmer on the score for this film, writing her own song Hold My Hand. Harold Faltermeyer is also credited for the score as his work on the original was incorporated into this one. As I did on your Top Gun reaction, here are the real world violations committed in this film: 1. Riding a motorcycle on an airfield. 2. Riding a motorcycle without a helmet. 3. Disobeying a direct order from an admiral, and doing so in a disrespectful and mocking manner. 4. Riding a motorcycle alongside a runway (and without a helmet, again!). 5. Extremely dangerous high speed pass between two other aircraft flying formation. 6. Twice! 7. Flying inverted in close proximity to another aircraft. 8. Breaking the “hard deck” (some things never change). 9. Dangerous manoeuvres during training. 10. Sailing (technically) a boat without a license. I’m not sure even with Penny there to guide him that he’s allowed to take control of it. 11. Stealing a multi-million dollar military aircraft (even though it has his name on it). 12. Twice! 13. High speed fly-by over two admirals. More violations than the first one, and Maverick is supposed to be more mature in this one 😂
I have always been a fan of Top Gun in the 90s, when I was little I really enjoyed watching that movie and now the second part of Top Gun is excellent, I enjoyed it a lot in the cinema.
Grey out in a F-18E by yourself and your screwed unless you come to in time. The F/A-18E is a single seat fighter while the F/A-18F is dual seat. During my time at the stick, I had the chance to take up both variants starting with the E and later on in a different squadron the F.
One of the cheesiest lines is when Phoenix remarks that they're all the best so who is going to teach them. I guess she forgot that everyone in the room was a Top Gun graduate, taught by INSTRUCTORS who were also Top Gun graduates at one time. There's always going to be someone with a little more experience and training than they have.
Yeah, but that kind of arrogance isn't uncommon, especially within military and special forces types, all those guys consider themselves the "best" on some level at a certain point, but I think alot of that is becauae they are young still, they're kids compared to experienced types like Maverick and the higher ups
While Tom Cruise definitely makes himself a badass, I like that this is one of the very few times he acknowledges and embraces that he’s 5’7”. Actors will use shoes or boxes to be taller in scenes or make costars avoid heels, but several times people tower over him or he’s literally carried out like a child by larger guys. Glad he’s accepted it more
There are at least 2 shots in this movie where you can see his shoe lifts, but most of the time it doesn't matter. And he's such a big star who makes movies possible by his presence and who does his own stunts...people literally can't make fun of him about being a short guy anymore.
@@caomhan84 Yeah I’m sure there’s times where you still need it just for practicality in some shots and ofc actors can make themselves appear taller or shorter if they want, but he seems more open to going without tricks
Is there actually any evidence that this ever personally bothered him in his movies? I suspect most of it is the studio wanting him to be taller, as it conveys a greater sence of "power", especially when playing action heroes, as he often does.
@@Mubiki I personally don’t know (maybe someone else knows) but I’d assume it’s both. Certainly once he started producing his own movies and had a lot more control you’d imagine he had a lot of input into his image. Usually the ego and image grows with the more image control actors get, like The Rock, Jason Statham, and Vin Diesel having it in their contracts that they can’t lose fights or get punched a certain number of times. So idk how much control he had in the past, but knowing he had control here the choice is still refreshing
Both Goose and Meg Ryan make reference to “Penny Benjamin” in the first film. This is my movie of the year; and a sequel that brings in new elements while honoring the spirit of the original.
The difference between the love scenes in this movie compared to the first is that the romance was added later after test audiences said they wanted it, most reactors have similar feelings about it and how it doesn't feel right or fit in the movie unlike this new movie where it was always part of the story.
Alyska, hey! I've been following your channel since your Red Dead 2 vids, great stuff, mate! Here is a thought to perhaps keep in mind for Mav not disclosing Rooster's mother's wishes: Those two go back quite a while since Rooster was a child. So, for my assessment, there might be a tipping scale of loyalty here. Not saying it's the right decision, but certainly, Mav chose a path that got him significant heat with Rooster. As an American, I may have lost the plot completely. I can be be quite thick sometimes lol
The Dark Star Scene is referenced to Tom Wolfe Book, The Right Stuff..Where Chuck Yeager had to eject in the F-104 trying to break an Altitude record. Some kid found him on the side of the road. Half his faced burned off. And dried blood all over it. The kid Thought he was an Alien. Then got a lift into town. To make a call to come pick him up...While also Chuck Yeager almost crashed the D-558-II Skyrocket. Beating Scout Crossfield mach 2 record. As Yeager said, Lets see where them old demons live. As he went to Mach 2.4.. Then lost control...Saying, "Boy, I’m not gonna do that again.” It was his last rocket Plane ride...
You are required to maneuver straight down this trench and skim the surface to this point. The target area is only two meters wide. It's a small thermal exhaust port.
I just finished watching it and I freaking loved it. I was three when the first movie came out. It was still being played in my household when I was six. I remember on the weekends late at night re-enacting the dog fights during the movie with models I made. This movie is so much better because it brings back a lot of the original things and people from the original. It’s a great flashback. When I saw they were going to steal a Tomcat… I flipped my s**t!!!! That has been my favorite fighter jet since I saw the original. Every time I go to any aircraft museum or the USS Midway in San Diego I spend the most time at the Tomcat. I really didn’t think this movie was going to be as good as it is. They had me thinking Maverick was going to die sooooo many times. I am glad he didn’t though but would understand if he did.
The scene at 4:00 is from the first TOP GUN movie. TOP GUN school is no longer in San Diego or even in California. In 1996, the school was merged into the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center at Naval Air Station Fallon, Nevada. Just for the record . . . 🤠
My favorite part of the first Penny scene is that they're playing a David Bowie song in the bar, since it's Jennifer Connelly, star of "Labyrinth"...with David Bowie.
I love how the relationship of Maverick and Iceman began from pure rivalry to end up as a long time best friends. I wish Val Kilmer could get better sooner.
In the original film there is one throwaway line in the beginning when Mavrick and Goose are getting chewed out and they are listing all the things Mavrick has done they say "and one joyride with an Admirals daughter" then goose looks at Mavrick and whispers "Penny Benjamin" it's a blink and you miss it kind of thing
Take notes star wars and marvel in terms of respecting a legacy character rather then character assassinating them and making a film with practical effects we need more films like top gun maverick rather then the cgi blockbusters we get nowadays. Can't wait to see your reaction to my favourite film of this year and very possible this decade. There are talks of a third top gun film I don't think it necessary like two is enough and so that they don't run the franchise into the ground.
Came here to say the same, thank you. Was it really so fucking hard for Disney to 1. Reunite an iconic trio in one scene and 2. Treat them with respect? Guess not when what they actually did was clearly a deliberate, targeted effort to piss on George's legacy.
Penny Benjamin was the Admiral's daughter that was mentioned in the first film. 1 low fly over an Admiral's daughter and Goose said.." Penny Benjamin?"
btw a lot of the film is real. As in real footage from camera in those aircraft. The actors just sit in the other seat while the actual pilot flies from the seat in front of them.
Probably one of the fewest movies that surpasses the original. It's a masterpiece. I loved the 86 Top Gun, but this is on a whole another level of being epic. And also the fact that nearly 90 percent of the scenes are practical and not CG, makes it even more epic. Top Gun is on my top 5 all times fav movies list.
Another great couple of easter eggs was; typing "86" on the juke box. A reference to the year Top Gun came out. The other is the Porsche's. The love interests in both movies drove a Porsche.
You say, “not the most graceful of landings“ When Maverick jumps out of Penny’s window; however, what I noticed about it was that it was perfect technique for a parachute landing. That is how you land when you eject from an aircraft in order not to completely wreck your knees and everything connected to them. That is exactly how a fighter pilot would Jump from a second storey window. I thought that was remarkable realism- Incredible piece of detail.
At least they finally upgraded to F-18s because even by the time the first film was made, the Navy had already started using them so there was no reason for them to be flying F- 14s.
The visuals and sound design to overwhelm you in the theaters but more than enough story to keep you rewatching at home. There’s only been a handful of movies ever made that did what Top Gun Maverick did.
"That's a terrible reason to have that nickname." Most pilot call signs are not given with respect. For example, I would presume that Phoenix got her nickname from something embarrassing that happened in that city.
A few Tom Cruise film suggestions (to stay with a theme): Risky Business Days of Thunder A Few Good Men (this is a must) Collateral Edge of Tomorrow (that's a pretty decent spread from across his career) Also the Mission Impossible series (assuming you're not already familiar)

This may seem weird, but when I first watched the movie I kept thinking of how similar it was to Cars 3. Both have protagonists that were once the “best of the best”, but are now getting forced out due to age/changing times. They both revolve around training arcs, and end with an older protagonist and younger protégé working together to defeat a newer model. It has been years since have seen cars 3, so if anyone can correct me, feel free. Loved the movie though, great sequel.

I like hangman. He needs his own movie. Thatd be a good direction to keep this thing going. And im not a guy to favor sequels
Two more MI movies, actually. The next MI is only a part one.
I wish the Academy gave films like this its due.
Val actually spoke himself, but it was cleaned up in post.
They used AI to enhance his voice to what you hear in the film.
@@Wheelygonzales They used A.I. to recreate his voice, not enhance it, he literally can't speak.
Love this movie
in reality, su57 outpower the f14 even with a non skilled pilot.
@@Nick86ITA Couldn't agree more mate..! 👍😁
@@Nick86ITA in reality, su57 have no military exploits, and you are blindly believe the spec they have announced lol
The concept of dog fight football sounds very interesting with a group of friends that could end up being an absolute blast
"Another happy landing." Ahahaha. You quoted Obi-Wan!
33:49 - The Porsche 911 is a nod to Maverick's love interest from the first Top Gun who drove a Porsche 356 Speedster.
Best film of 2022! I love it even more than the original Top Gun, and I grew up with that movie back in the 90’s! ❤️
Huh?
Actually 1 of best of all time! Oscar worthy!!
@@dariusparks3954 hell yesss! I hope it gets nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Production, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song
@@Soundtracks92 it was a good movie I really liked it but the story itself wasn’t anything special tbh
Prey was better for me personally… I would have rather MAV died saving Rooster, would’ve been a more poetic and realistic ending 🤷🏽♂️
0:43 Yes the intro was in the previous film but had one change. Now it says "handful of men and women".
I loved this movie, the action, cinematography, story, characters, subtle romance, motorcycles were done perfectly. One of my few 10/10 films and probably up there in my favourite films with og Star Wars. A fucking masterpiece
The actors deserve all the credit in the world for their performance and dealing with the pressure of flying the jets.
I saw the original the year it came out at a drive in theatre and at the end you could literally see people get out of their vehicles to cheer ..
It's now the highest grossing movie of the year, $1.4 billion dollars.
They were just a fling in the first movie anyway, both her and Maverick were married to their careers and independent people for anything long term to happen with each other
@@Mrs.Deanna_Ember, Exactly. At the end of the first TG, she got a job in D.C. and was leaving for that job.
Charlie wasn't in the film because, unlike Tom, she's aged since 1986.
Penny is mentioned twice in the first movie. She’s the Admirals daughter
The reason you were engaged so early in this film is because of the original. As good as this movie is (and I loved it) , it couldn't be this great without the original.
True.. Very True
Maverick really hits it home how much he wants them all to survive this almost suicide mission: “your job is to teach them how to work as a team, and how to strike the target.”
“And how to come home… and how to come home, sir.”
“Every mission has its risks, these pilots accept that.”
“I don’t, sir.”
And debriefing the failed practice runs:
“Is there a reason you didn’t communicate with your team?”
“I was focusing on..”
“One that their family will accept at the funeral?”
“None, sir.”
“Why didn’t you anticipate the turn?”
“I..”
“Don’t tell me, tell it to his family.” 😬
“It’s not the plane, it’s the pilot.”
“Exactly!”
“And he’s saying you’re shit.” 😂 yep.
“Thank you for saving my life.”
“It’s what my dad would’ve done.” 🥲
Top Gun: Maverick trivia:
Miles Teller revealed that during the flight training, only three of the cast who were taken up in the jets, including himself, didn’t throw up. Anthony Edwards, who played Goose in Top Gun, was the only cast member who didn’t throw up during training for the original… like father, like son.
There is a disclaimer at the end of the credits that says “no animals were harmed in the making of this film”, referring to the birdstrike scene 😂
The opening scene was filmed as an homage to original Top Gun director Tony Scott, who sadly took his own life in 2012.
Lady Gaga worked with Hans Zimmer on the score for this film, writing her own song Hold My Hand. Harold Faltermeyer is also credited for the score as his work on the original was incorporated into this one.
As I did on your Top Gun reaction, here are the real world violations committed in this film:
I have always been a fan of Top Gun in the 90s, when I was little I really enjoyed watching that movie and now the second part of Top Gun is excellent, I enjoyed it a lot in the cinema.
this was THE movie to watch in theaters
Grey out in a F-18E by yourself and your screwed unless you come to in time. The F/A-18E is a single seat fighter while the F/A-18F is dual seat. During my time at the stick, I had the chance to take up both variants starting with the E and later on in a different squadron the F.
My 2 favorite Cruise films: Edge of Tomorrow and The Last Samurai, I believe you will love them, both have great character arc.
Currently watching this on patreon and absolutely loving the reaction! Keep up the amazing work Alyce!!
Have you done Edge of Tomorrow yet?
That's another great Tom Cruise film, and the Mission Impossible films too, especially the last few
I can be be quite thick sometimes lol
hahahahaha "oh boy, here comes the lizard tongue *sigh* " hahahaha Alyska has my favorite turns of phrase.
Penny Benjamin is the Admirals Daughter he did the;
" fly-by's over five air control towers and one admiral's daughter!"
I hope that with this movie, the expectations of the new generations have increased. They deserve more than a few average comic movies.
Yes, they payed homage to the original Top Gun and to Star Wars in this movie.
@@mjc1389 had me laughing in the theater. Loved it.
Just for the record . . . 🤠
I just watched this in theatres with my grandma and it was just like I’m in my plane
As of today, I feel Top Gun is the one of the best movies of 2022. It’s so freaking good. Top Gun and The Batman are like 1A and 1B. They’re so good.
I love how he said rooster was his wingman and then in the run rooster is in the other element 😂
My favorite part of the first Penny scene is that they're playing a David Bowie song in the bar, since it's Jennifer Connelly, star of "Labyrinth"...with David Bowie.
Maverick made the same look as Cougars face in the first topgun when hangman saved them
Ice Man illness is duo to Val Kilmer also being sick, he was fighting a cancer for years and he lost his voice, gladly he is still alive.
I love how the relationship of Maverick and Iceman began from pure rivalry to end up as a long time best friends. I wish Val Kilmer could get better sooner.
In the original film there is one throwaway line in the beginning when Mavrick and Goose are getting chewed out and they are listing all the things Mavrick has done they say "and one joyride with an Admirals daughter" then goose looks at Mavrick and whispers "Penny Benjamin"
it's a blink and you miss it kind of thing
"here comes the lizard tongue"😂. Great reaction👍
The reason why Iceman's character can't talk is because Val Kilmer, the actor, has throat cancer, so they incorporated that into Iceman
I hope he and everyone else is kicking Cancer`s arse right out of existence.... :):)
"I'm sorry, Goose!"
When Maverick thinks he killed his friend's kid!
Other Tom cruise movies you would like are The Last Samurai, Edge of Tomorrow, and his most underrated film imo Oblivion
Glad they used Val Kilmer’s real-life struggle with cancer as part of the story to give Iceman’s character weight and honor at the same time.
btw a lot of the film is real. As in real footage from camera in those aircraft. The actors just sit in the other seat while the actual pilot flies from the seat in front of them.
"He's gonna break her heart again"... yeah... it's just one more masterful plot line for people who are genuine and mean what they say.
Fun fact!! The P-51K Mustang in the hanger scenes where Maverick is working on the P-51, is also owned by Tom Cruise!
and he flies it at the end of the movie - he as a license in aerobatics
no plane in history will ever be as cool as the F-14.
Except SR-71 Blackbird.

The emotions felt in the theatre when I saw this for the first time after not seeing the original in a decade was unbelievable
Hello Alyska, I'm actually going to watch it tonight with my family! I hope you have an awesome weekend 💛
"That's a terrible reason to have that nickname." Most pilot call signs are not given with respect. For example, I would presume that Phoenix got her nickname from something embarrassing that happened in that city.
all the actors choose their call signs and have a back story for them
The scene with Val Kilmer made me cry. He made a documentary about his career called Val on Amazon Prime.
I love the f-18s they use in this movie it reminds me of how cool the behind enemy lines movie was lol

Risky Business
Days of Thunder
A Few Good Men (this is a must)

Also the Mission Impossible series (assuming you're not already familiar)
Oblivion too

The first one was great ... perfect silhouette implied without revealing too much and a great romantic song. lol
I'm subscribing to your channel just based on this one video. I loved your honest and funny reactions. And your accent. The funniest part of the video, and my favorite one to be honest, was when you did your "lizard tongue" impression. Thanks for showing that more than once.
I love Hangman! i also want to punch him for being so cocky! Also BOB the actor who plays him. His Dad is Bill Pullman who played the President who flew F18's against the aliens in Indepedance Day. :D
Take away The Mummy and Jack Reacher 2, and Tom Cruise is just absolute quality in terms of the films he's done and produced! This one was fantastic!
and these 2 are still watchable...
For the record GiB gets credit for kills so while Hangman shows off that he has two kills, Rooster has two as well.

Fun fact: Glen Powell(Hangman) revealed that he was originally slated to play Rooster. He didn't get it but tom cruise liked him and they made a whole character for him
I recommend the Bill & Ted movies and the directors cut of Robocop (1987)
This may seem weird, but when I first watched the movie I kept thinking of how similar it was to Cars 3. Both have protagonists that were once the “best of the best”, but are now getting forced out due to age/changing times. They both revolve around training arcs, and end with an older protagonist and younger protégé working together to defeat a newer model. It has been years since have seen cars 3, so if anyone can correct me, feel free. Loved the movie though, great sequel.
It was an amazing experience to watch this movie in theatre for me.
Love this movie, watched it 5 times in the cinema. Joint best film of the year along with Everything Everywhere all at Once
