  • paulw7uk chess. this is 10-min rapid chess on lichess.org.
not the best quality play overall as we have a number of blunders each but still 86% v 83% accuracy and a decent result in the end though as it turned our we were a little better at the time we agree a draw but well down on the clock.

Your videos stopped popping up in my notifications and I wasn’t getting any recommendations either. So weird. Glad to be watching again! Lol

thank you, appreciated. I have no idea how things work in terms of how content is distributed or not but I do know I have no input into that. I just try to play and upload my few games each day. for these longer videos, I am trying to feature 1 rapid game each day, normally post early morning my time, then a few short bullet clips later in the day. I have though played more rapid games than I intended, so now and again may be 2 of them on a day, but most days just be the 1.

I was very surprised that you took a draw in that position! You've got a protected passed pawn on the 6th rank and his rook is tied down to defense. Looked to me like you had a big advantage. White must have rejoiced. I think once you maneuver your king to d5 it's an easy win.

yes I don't normally agree draws unless good reason, like the position is clearly an easy draw for both sides or low on time vs opponent, as in this game, so a comfortable position can still turn into a likely loss, as I am only playing for my rating, not in big money prize events. so yes as a principle I do try to play games out, lots of games will end in draws just because both players play well and don't blunder otherwise that risk v reward and I would generally rather lose a game playing for a win than settle for a draw.

What happened to I’d rather lose than to accept a draw?

that is true as a principle, especially early in games. I was well down on the clock this game so could have turned a good position into a loss, risk v reward. but yes as a principle I usually play games out, I am only playing for my rating, not playing for big prize money.

14:30 Wasted a move going h2 instead you should've pushed the pawn to b3 and led it to white square not protected by his bishop
