I come from a family of generation long apple farmers in south Santa Cruz county, CA. The place where MARTINELLI's Apple Juice comes from. We have always had/have Cat D2's/D4's.. The orchard models. As a kid, International TD6. the real beast. We need them every Spring to get through the mud. We had one that was a dedicated dozer, just like yours, but an orchard model.
Brings back memories of riding on my dad's d4 when was little!😀 1942 cat . Enjoy all the time you can doing what you love as Dad&son time . Love videos and great information on all
What a blessing to have your dad around. With two you can get a lot of work done. Nice work. It must have been close quarters before trying to get a trailer backed into your pole barn.
You don't have to be 'professional operators' to have fun like this. Besides,..for what you two did, it looks great to me. I wish I had a 'sandbox' like that to play in and those 'Tonka' toys too,..now there's a dream way to enjoy life!
PAVE IT, I've been running equipment for 35 years now and still feel like a kid with Tonka toys every day I climb in one, and Everytime I use my grandfather's old D2 makes me appreciate how advanced the new stuff is
Dirt and diesel never gets old. Thanks for sharing, when my dad said to fill the holes in the backyard wish I could have used one of your Cats and not that old wheelbarrow.
I once owned 2 D-2s (5J) one was with a bulldozer like yours and the other was a Traxcavator. They were within 100 numbers of each other 1947 I believe. Really good machines. Pretty good for pioneering if you were patient.
Always a treat to see what these Cats are able to accomplish when they're operated by competent guys like yourselves! My uncles & maternal grandfather were experts in this line of work, as well as 2 of my younger uncle's offspring...to a combined total of almost 100 years in the business! These are skills to be proud of & admired.
Great video, you guys were having too much fun with those old Cats, beautiful machines! I live in central Illinois and we have lots of massive Caterpillar buildings and manufacturing plants, including their track-type tractor facility, really cool stuff.
Ah HAH! Number 2 notch! Sounds like Pop0s tractor's hydraulics were complaining somewhat. My Sea Bee Uncles D-4 had a blasted paper filter inside the tank that would break down and clog everything up Sorry filter and a Cat filter too. But it's still going, just like those. It had a Hyster D4D winch on it. Came with D-6 jacks and he changed it over to a single like a Euc had. Wasn't slow after that, had plenty of power and had a spare cylinder. Thanks Toby and Pop! Job well done!
'Fraid it does. Hope the blasted thing hasn't disintegrated on you. They get where they won't lift anything so I don't think it;s gone that far. Almost sounds like a strainer is clogged about up with the pump whining on the upstroke and not any other time. I know yall will set it right, no doubt, along with #1 notch in the A/C. Thanks, Toby! Sure is good to see 2 Kitties out playing in the dirt!.
The shorter the track length or the wheel base in say a small tractor against a road maintainer/grader the more difficult to prevent porpoising, speed probably has something to do with it too. You guys did great , you got it done in the end. If you had a drag it might finish it more evenly , but the grounds going to continue to settle and it does not have to be a putting green .
Sorry thats too far for me great price though thank u for the repli i drove to nyc to get a skid steer a couple of month's ago and it was 18 hours round trip
Heck, man! I have enough trouble keeping my hands off the wheeled tractors! I have too many more of those that I want! As far as the addiction goes, I think it is already too late. I have been stricken with the illness for some time - and it is TERMINAL! :-D
Try adding 2stroke oil 50:1 mix with your fuel. I can hear the knock from here. The old stuff needs fuel that lubricates well, not so much clean burning.
I used to work for Caterpillar Tractor Co. in the '60's and '70's at the Decatur, IL, plant. Got my apprenticeship from the company and went west to work for Boeing. What is your background with Cat? I like the way you compose your videos and make them very easy to understand. How many Cats do you own?
The sound of a CAT engine running is one of my favorite things. I’d like to find one of these someday. I actually need one. I’ve always liked them. It’s a good size dozer too. How much of a pile can these push? I have a couple huge piles of brush and logs to move back that I need one for.
@@squatch253 is there an email address you take any “fan mail” at? I’m a big fan of the channel and would like to share a story about my grandfather's tractor.
I'm serious about you two doing better crawler work than the most of the pros around here. I used to build fence professionally and there were only three that I liked to build behind. There gone. And the rest leave a mess .😊 it's a shame really .
@@squatch253 Thank you, sir! I love the content here. It was great seeing the Super M go from a bare cylinder block to a like new tractor, I can’t wait to see 5J-1113 ready to run with her patina paint job. If you had a “first smoke” party, I bet people would come from all over to celebrate your loving restoration, maybe at the Antique Caterpillar Owners field day? Just a thought.
Wow, you’re moving to fast. Use a lower gear. Your blade move me to should be before you are on top of it. And for gods sake stop the back dragging its a sure sign of inexperience and talent. I did the same things when I started 65 years ago, I was paid $1.00 hr, so was dump truck drivers. ChiefD

I watched this a year or so ago but rewatched it again, really neat to see you and your dad working together. Good times.

I have a 1949 D2 5U still getting the job done. It just ripped two acres 18" deep this weekend.
Impressive, almost 70yrs old and working beautifully, nice vid
The crawler or the man?
Prolly both. 🤣
Really amazing old iron. What a fantastic diesel sound. Never heard anything quite like it.
Awesome video. In my mind's eye I can see the Seabees using this type Cat to clear runways in the jungle in WW2. What a fine machine the D2 is.
What a blessing to have your dad around. With two you can get a lot of work done. Nice work. It must have been close quarters before trying to get a trailer backed into your pole barn.
Brings back memories of my dad's D2. Like moving a neighbor's mobile home through the field to be hauled off. Multiple dozer jobs.
Quality father son time right there buddy!!

Awesome toys for big boys! Sure looks like a fun father son day to me! Nice D2's!

This video took me back to childhood days playing in the sand with such toys, great video. thanks very much

Great machines - our old 15 is a it smaller and has a gas engine without any attachments. It is so obvious that you take great care of your Cats !

Thats one nice sand box to play in! And cool toys!
You and your dad just having too much fun with those two cats it would be Ultimate Dream for myself to do something like that😆😎😄
You sure can do a lot with a small bulldozer

Fine job sir!
you do good work and don't let anyone tell you different
The 10:50 mark. That old root caught you leaning! Glad it didn't whack you. Been there done that.😬
Making some nice waves.... It's a lot harder than it looks.
5u wide gauge on the angle and tilt blade D 2 there. Nice machine.
It's always fun pushing. Looks really good to me guys. I have a D7E.
MAN would it be nice to have a crawler! But.... I would do WAYYYYY too much damage to my wetland! (LOL) Nice video, bud!

Times changed bigtime. I could drink cup of coffee plus did that work in under 3 minutes with D-11 T.. Downside COST!!!
I reckon it the BBQ pitt boys on them D2s

No tilt blades makes it very hard to level ground I’d the same with my MF65 push and drag.
