- D8's built the roads, D2's built the homesites.
The D2 was the smallest Cat, weighing just under 8000 pounds with blade. Cat sold many thousands of them.
This one is owned by a contractor, who uses it for jobs in tight spots.

Love the little D2's. CAT is reintroducing the D2, but the jury is still out on how good it'll be.
I watch U Tube a lot and its really nice to watch some one like this that really knows how to use a D2. Many could learn from him .
He knows exactly how hard he can push the machine, and great blade control on such a short track base. He got a lot done in a short time, and left a nice surface.
Wish my D2 had the solid front idlers and a factory blade. Nice looking machine.
bloody good operator
Lisen too the torque on that lovely engine he'll of a guy operating it too
Muito boa essa maquininha
cant kill em
Did you get a video of that Insley????
I have a good video of the yellow pipeliner hoe, not as much on the orange Insley dragline or shovel. Need to pull together a video on what I do have.
That is a D4
It is identifiable as a D2 because the drive sprocket is exposed, with a separate pivot shaft ahead of the sprocket, like the earlier small gas Cat 10, 20, 22. D4 has the pivot shaft around the drive axle, like the old Cat 30 + 60, and all the bigger standard Cats.
If you see a D2 + D4 next to each other, the D4 is much bigger than the D2.
Also the blade lift on the D2 is direct acting, while the D4 has a bell crank. (The standard Cat blades, not the toolbar version).
There are several more videos of D2's and D4's on my channel to compare.
