Im wondering about the upgraded ESC. I decided a few years not to get one because of the problems. Maybe Traxxas got the message. The price Traxxas charges for the truck, it should have an ESC that doesnt catch fire.

The ones I've used seem to have pretty good safeguards on them to shut them down before any real issues happen. I've had more Castle ESCs catch fire than my Traxxas ones to be honest lol
Great video mate! I just ordered a new X-MAXX and this video really helped me understand what i can expect to be ding in the process of having fun and breaking things! I've heard from a few people that the pinion gear definitely is a weak spot with the grub screw coming loose pretty quickly. People have been taking the grub screw out and putting some red loctite on the threads to stop it coming loose. Do you do this to yours? Cheers from Australia. Thanks for sharing mate!
Yes, adding more loctite to the pinion should help keep it from slipping. I use blue loctite because it's easier to remove than the red stuff, what I do is I let a tiny bit of loctite get onto the very end of the grubscrew, that way there is a very small amount between the motor shaft and grubscrew. Thanks for watching!
Kinda old video so maybe a little late to comment lol...BUT, I purchased the Tekno / GDS gears per your video but they say do NOT use the Traxxas pin system for the mesh. Seems you have changed your gears out quite a bit so I was wondering how you go about meshing? It seems like it might be a little tricky to mesh properly on this truck without using the pin system? @@chrisrodriguez206 WIth stock Traxxas gears that pin system is great. WIth Tekno/GDS spur they recommend you mesh it manually without the pin system. Great video mi dude, I personally learned a tid bit of information watching your video and I thank you in advance kind sir for helping to save me a bit of cheddar and potential frustration. Keep up the good work.
Yeah I have actually never broken any in all my years of Xmaxx carnage, so from my experience it's not necessary to upgrade. Even if they were to break they're real cheap, and if you go over to metal you have to be careful to not over tighten the cap so you don't destroy the shock bladder(I made that mistake before on a different RC)
The one in the background is a ridgid stand, I forget what they're called but they have them at home depot, they come in a 2 pack for ~$80, theyre easily the best stands I've seen! 10th scale cars are a little too small for it but anything 1/8 or larger they sit on there perfect and it's super sturdy!
What’s the silicone ear plug you speak of for the center diff. I’m picking up a Maxx today and wanna go through it and make sure I start bulletproofing it.
So hopefully you know that RC diffs are intended to use silicone oil to tune how much the diff will move for a limited-slip effect, you can buy these silicone putty earplugs to effectively "lock" up a diff because they're super thick, it drives as though the diff is locked but it can still move just a little bit for durability. If you get the right earplugs theyre made of pure silicone putty. Honestly with your Maxx you should just drive it as is, you probably won't need to upgrade much on it, it has a really good diff setup box stock
@@crazycamkalani right on, just getting back into the hobby and first Maxx. Of course I have the dreaded clicking noise (bought it used) going to be pulling the front dif tonight.
So new to this picked up a beat on Xmaxx it seems ok for the most part. Well being farm kid I went through greased the diffs with bearing grease after cleaning black stuff out... was that ok? So what will I expect might happen cause I did... nothing by the motor figured that gets hot don't need grease spraying around there. Well many things on truck were rusty so wd-40 most of it get a coat on.... check back but cool video!! Trying to order bearings now do see 👀 bearing cover bouncing on the wheel drive shaft so should replace asap where do you buy parts?
It's Mad Max Land Grippers, I bought them a couple years ago from a guy that doesn't sell them anymore, but they still make them I'm just not sure where they sell them anymore
What are you using for batteries and charger? Since you added xt90 connectors to max6 esc, curious how your connecting batteries if using traxxas ones. I just received my max6. Currently using traxxas batteries and charger. So thinking about best wiring option.
I run mainly Turnigy batteries because they're cheap and have a good warranty if something goes bad, and yeah like in the video the XT90s are my connector of choice for most of my stuff. The max6 power leads are 10awg so if you're already using their batteries and if you can get ahold of the male Traxxas leads it's not too hard to install them on the max6. Charger wise I use the Hitec X2 and Venom Quad chargers, the Hitec one out of those two is much better.
Another thing you could do is put different(larger) connectors on the max6 itself and use an adapter, but I definitely wouldn't recommend doing that because it's one more possible failure point
I had the idea to make one into Sweet Tooth as soon as I saw one haha. I got it used for $600 when it was relatively new. And yeah everything is the same, the major difference is the body. Shocks are the same with slightly different springs, the rear springs are definitely a bit stiffer, but I believe the front springs are the same.
Haven't tried them personally, I do like the concept but it's not my thing. I'm sticking with the stock motor myself and it's definitely not needed with that, but on something like a 1/5 motor it may be worth trying!
I've had the best luck with stock tires, just have to vent them properly and put some gorilla tape on the inside of the wheel so it doesn't get any water/dirt inside(thats what causes the blowouts)
Hi i m not a pro in this hobby i got some questions. I found a almost new xmaxx with some rpm upgrades and Max 6 for 850$. If i buy that do you guys think i can sell it for almost the same Price a year later ?
It's possible, depends on how you drive the thing, if you beat it up it wouldn't be worth as much but if you take care of it you can reasonably get more money out of it
Thank you, happy to help! he GDS spur gear I've been ordering from Amazon(I dont know the part number sorry) I would avoid getting them from ebay because they have a bunch of fakes there, Amazon's GDS spurs seem to be genuine and they've been working perfect for me. The tekno pinion I've been using the 20t one and its #TKR4180, I order those from amain hobbies.
Man, that was informative...thank you for sharing! I was literally taking notes. I’m new to all this and have a dumb question...how do the silicon ear plugs improve throttle response/traction and where do you install them? Thank you again. Excellent video!
Thank you for the kind words I appreciate it! Basically the silicone earplugs, by them being super stiff what it does is it "locks" up the center diff where you would normally put some sort of oil (so the differential can do its job for traction). By tightening up that center diff you lose a bit of overall traction but you distribute power more evenly front and rear so the truck will wheelie/backflip/launch harder, when the diff is loose you lose power on the wheels that are up in the air
I bought it used on FB marketplace when the thing came out in ~2018. Snapon truck dealers gave them out and/or raffled them off. They're a legit special edition Xmaxx with that box truck body and light kit.
Great video! Really explained some questions I had before I take the dive into this hobby. Can you tell me where you got the decal for the RC MANIACS body?
Thanks you!! Honestly even though I absolutely love this truck I wouldn't really recommend this as a first truck, I would highly recommend something smaller first like a 1/10 or 1/8 scale, for example the Maxx is an amazing truck, it it's basically an Xmaxx that got hit with a shrink-ray and that one is easily the strongest truck box-stock. The Xmaxx is one of the best trucks on the market but at the same time it's a huge heavy truck with big expensive batteries. Definitely buy one, but to start out I recommend getting something smaller so you can get used to caring for Lipo batteries and get used to driving them. The wrap is from Darkside Studios, that specific one is called the Ruckus. They make that wrap for all kinds of stuff 👍
It wasn't easy on the wallet but man it makes such a difference haha, in my case it makes the whole RC experience better cause I only need to bring one or two radios when I go out to bash cause the higher end radios can hold a ton of different models!
Thank you very much. I found this video very helpful. So I got the tekno 20t and GDS 50t on the way. My xmaxx is pretty much stock except for RPM rear hubs and proline bash body. Will the stock ESC be enough for 20/50 gearing or do I need to upgrade to max6?
With the newer versions of it it should be fine, I've seen people run taller gearing than 20/50 without issues! When I bought mine it was when a good amount of ESCs turned into fireballs because of faulty switches, I never had an issue with it myself but I swapped them over just to have smoother power delivery.
@@crazycamkalani Thank you very much. So I'll be running 20/50 on stock ESC. Just ordered max6 just in case the stock ESC goes bad or I get bored whichever comes first haha. Thanks a lot man.
Rpm pins are better 3mm so you can put them in the front. Rpm wheely bar is the best ever. Rpm arms ? Your break all them and get rpm then break all them but it worst? Sound the same. Best part about rpm arms is they will go on any side. Big money saver
I don't have a link for it on hand but it's the Ruckus wrap from Darkside Studios, my version is renamed to mad max which was from this guy Nathan Cation who used to sell a bunch of Xmaxx upgrades a few years ago.
Yes I have two Maxxes! Got the first one the day it came out in October, and bought the second one in like February. It's the exact same truck but smaller I love it!
It "locks" up the center diff, it's basically the same stuff as diff oil (pure silicone) but it's much thicker so throttle response is great, but since it's just a putty it can still move under huge loads for durability
Haven't bashed hard enough to break any arms recently so I haven't been able to test out the HD arms yet, but I can certainly say they're better than the RPM Xmaxx arms, those were absolutely terrible when I had them!
The one in the background is an old ridgid stand, I forget what they're called but usually they come with the rollers on top, I believe they're called "portable work support" or something along those lines
Yeah first thing I would do is ignore your flag and use my own Australian flag 🇦🇺 but other than that those are some nice rc's I'm getting an xmaxx soon
Hopefully you enjoy them as much as I do! Out of everything I own the Xmaxxes continue to be my favorite RCs, they're definitely not the most convenient to travel with, but if you have the space to run them they're pretty amazing to drive, and when you jump it the sheer mass of it flying through the air is super exhilarating!
@@crazycamkalani i launched my xmaxx 15-20meters x100 & eventually it split into two pieces with repair cost $300.. never again, even when you dont launch it the turn pipes ripp the crap out of the tyres which already have longevity issues with the foam.
I usually don't as well, but in the case of the Xmaxxes I like them so much I wanted another one to have as a "spare", then I got the idea to get another one to use specifically in wet/muddy conditions haha. To each their own though buy whatever makes you happy and don't let anyone else sway your opinion on it!

Nothing's 100% perfect box stock, for the type of abuse my xmaxxes get it's not a crazy amount of parts. If you watched the video you'd see how little it really needs 🤷♂️ I got some cars that'll break $100+ in parts every run and my xmaxxes usually cost $10-20 depending on what I break that bash session. Keep up the good work.

@@leevongilmore2070 so your one of “ those guys” I am truly sorry to hear that.
I'm surprised you havent changed the plastic shock caps. Good info on everything. Thanks!
That's awesome, needed this thanks
Nice presentation. Very nice details. What kind of stand that XMaxx sitting on please?
The one in the background is a ridgid stand, I forget what they're called but they have them at home depot, they come in a 2 pack for ~$80, theyre easily the best stands I've seen! 10th scale cars are a little too small for it but anything 1/8 or larger they sit on there perfect and it's super sturdy!
Solid video! Great info!🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thanks brother I appreciate it!
Good video and best advice mate. You looks as Aaron Kaufman of RC.
Haha thank you!
Far out Dude tripping out , How eazy is it to change the ESC overto MAX6 from Factory ESC ???
Thanks Dude far out
Its very easy! The motor uses the same size bullet connectors as the max6 and recalibrate it and its ready to rock!
What's the name of the 3rd tire from the stock tire? And where did you get them?
@@crazycamkalani thanks for tips and recommendations.

Thanks for the ear plug trick!
Absolutely! it's a great mod that's super cheap to do and it doesn't negatively effect the durability :D
Nice collection.

Standing backflip time!!!!
I'm surprised the servo is not in the list of upgrades
You upgraded fans man to run 20/50 gearing ?
AWESOME VIDEO MAN! WHAT INSPIRED U 2 BUY THE SNAPON MODEL?! -AAND, IS IT THE XACT SAME MINUS THE NIFTY BODY?! THANKYOU.
What do you think about belt drives for xmaxx I’ve been considering it sense I always have issues with gears
Haven't tried them personally, I do like the concept but it's not my thing. I'm sticking with the stock motor myself and it's definitely not needed with that, but on something like a 1/5 motor it may be worth trying!
How well do the stock tires hold up to the 20x50 gearing?
I've had the best luck with stock tires, just have to vent them properly and put some gorilla tape on the inside of the wheel so it doesn't get any water/dirt inside(thats what causes the blowouts)
@@crazycamkalani Thanks for the info I do appreciate it👍
@@johnsorensen5758 any time brother thanks for watching 🤘
Hi i m not a pro in this hobby i got some questions. I found a almost new xmaxx with some rpm upgrades and Max 6 for 850$. If i buy that do you guys think i can sell it for almost the same Price a year later ?
It's possible, depends on how you drive the thing, if you beat it up it wouldn't be worth as much but if you take care of it you can reasonably get more money out of it
Great vid man. Really helps! I’m having a hell of a hard time finding the gears that you recommend. Can I have the part #s and where I can get them?
Thank you, happy to help! he GDS spur gear I've been ordering from Amazon(I dont know the part number sorry) I would avoid getting them from ebay because they have a bunch of fakes there, Amazon's GDS spurs seem to be genuine and they've been working perfect for me. The tekno pinion I've been using the 20t one and its #TKR4180, I order those from amain hobbies.
Thanks man. Awesome!
Awesome video man!!
Thanks for watching!
@@crazycamkalani makes sense...thanks for getting back to me. Much appreciated!!!
Where did you get the box body from?
I bought it used on FB marketplace when the thing came out in ~2018. Snapon truck dealers gave them out and/or raffled them off. They're a legit special edition Xmaxx with that box truck body and light kit.
Awesome info! Thanks man! Where did you get the American flag xmaxx stickers?
Glad you liked the video! I got them on Ebay a couple years ago, im not sure if they still sell them
need links to the parts below
That 7px remote. And i thought a nintendo joycon was expensive!
@@KangHM no worries, happy to help! Hopefully you enjoy your Xmaxx as much as I do haha
Rpm pins are better 3mm so you can put them in the front. Rpm wheely bar is the best ever.
Rpm arms ? Your break all them and get rpm then break all them but it worst? Sound the same. Best part about rpm arms is they will go on any side. Big money saver
Pins in the front probably help with breaking arms . Same with the top inside pins all around.
Great video 🎉

What wrap did you have on the unbreakable body an got a link for it
I don't have a link for it on hand but it's the Ruckus wrap from Darkside Studios, my version is renamed to mad max which was from this guy Nathan Cation who used to sell a bunch of Xmaxx upgrades a few years ago.
cool
Thanks for watching!
Guess u like an x maxx, wonder if u have any of the maxx's 🤔 good info inside here my man🙄💎 absolutely Awesome, thanks for the time taken
Yes I have two Maxxes! Got the first one the day it came out in October, and bought the second one in like February. It's the exact same truck but smaller I love it!
@@crazycamkalani intoxicating package that small maxx, more so in Green😎
What do you use the Mack's silicone ear plugs for???
It "locks" up the center diff, it's basically the same stuff as diff oil (pure silicone) but it's much thicker so throttle response is great, but since it's just a putty it can still move under huge loads for durability
@@crazycamkalani ok Kool thanks
What receiver did you use with your dx5 in your xmaxx?
Umm I would have to double check the name but I'm pretty sure I have the SR2100 receiver in there(2 channel rx with an internal antenna)
Hello sir. Nice review.
Shouldn’t be called unbreakable bodies, it should be called harder to break bodies!!🤣
Awesome video thanks for the tips when my aarms break I'm goin with the traxxas hd arms and see how they are
Haven't bashed hard enough to break any arms recently so I haven't been able to test out the HD arms yet, but I can certainly say they're better than the RPM Xmaxx arms, those were absolutely terrible when I had them!
I've been sticking with stock forever cause I'm fine keeping that as a breaking point because they're cheap and easy to get to haha
Go Traxxas HD in front, and RPM rear, jumps sooo much better with some flex in the rear:)
what car stand you rocking?
The one in the background is an old ridgid stand, I forget what they're called but usually they come with the rollers on top, I believe they're called "portable work support" or something along those lines
Yeah first thing I would do is ignore your flag and use my own Australian flag 🇦🇺 but other than that those are some nice rc's I'm getting an xmaxx soon
Hopefully you enjoy them as much as I do! Out of everything I own the Xmaxxes continue to be my favorite RCs, they're definitely not the most convenient to travel with, but if you have the space to run them they're pretty amazing to drive, and when you jump it the sheer mass of it flying through the air is super exhilarating!
.. another mod "Don't goto skateparks", will also improve your bank balance.
Yup! They stay a lot cleaner but man I break a lot more haha
@@crazycamkalani i launched my xmaxx 15-20meters x100 & eventually it split into two pieces with repair cost $300.. never again, even when you dont launch it the turn pipes ripp the crap out of the tyres which already have longevity issues with the foam.
Where did you get the hoonigan body
It's just a sticker 👍 the wrap is Darkside studios and I just threw additional stickers on top of it
@@crazycamkalani thanks
Can you put a 8s in a stock xmaxx?
Every single brand new xmaxx yes, the only ones you can't put 8s in are the original 6s versions
I don’t understand why a guy would want multiple of the same RC 🤔 I have 2 & wouldn’t buy the same of either unless one was unrepairable.
@@crazycamkalani well I suppose if money ain’t an issue heck buy half a dozen lol I’m thinking I’m stopping at 2, a big basher & a 1/10 SCT for speed, between the 2 I have enough RC stuff laying around 😂

It's a wrap from Darkside Studios!
Good video but dude you seriously need to slow down on talking and showing things lol

What tires are best
For the type of bashing I do the stock tires have been the best, they're super lightweight for their size so you break less parts
The answer to 1984 is 1776!
We could definitely use a good revolution right about now haha
I just got my xmaxx
How much price xmaxx
Too much 😂 well actually for what you get its a great value, its ~$899 usd

Oh yeah it gets a bit annoying when I'm editing I annoy myself sometimes haha! Still getting used to the video thing, thank you for the feedback I appreciate it!
Hey twitch put the joint down .
The only mod that you need is to dump any Traxxas product you own and buy a new one from a respectable RC company, not those sharks called Traxxas.
yeah let me spend a 1000$ on the xmaxx 8s 500$ for batteries and charger and now have to replace almost all moving parts to modify upgrade everything because the whole interior of parts are all junk what a waste of money total fricken rip off. 👎👎👎
For the size of truck it's unbelievably reliable and cheap as hell to upkeep.
What Receiver are you using with your blue xmaxx and the DX5 RUGGED?
I forget the exact name, but it's one of the receivers that doesn't have an antenna on it. It might be called the 2100?
