Rika is a legend! I practice shotokan for 30 years and during these time I was been also a sparring partner for the under 21 kumite italian team. Everday watched agonists express themselves on high levels, but everytime I see Rika's kata I would like run to the dojo to improve my style. Her expressive strength, kime, all.. She is a lighthouse, really number 1!! 🥋🥇😍

Been training for 13 yrs and I am familiar with the kata but I have to say this that she has an excellent flow and and agility, she does that with such humility and concentration. She is such a treasure in the world of karate.
In all traditional karate systems, the bunkai (application theory) within the kata are ancient, multi-layered and multi-dimensional. They are therefore often deep, enigmatic and hidden enough to merit a lifetime of ardent study.
I am in awe of her controlled explosiveness. Her biomechanics are amazingly precise. Her foundation of flexible strength in her ankles and feet is flawless.
Knowing how insanely perfectionist Japanese are ....she seems at peace doing this but I know deep in her soul she cried alooot of times to receive such mastery and be a champion 🙏

I watched her world champion win against Sandy and she was laser sharp and INSANELY FAST..... Her speed is outstanding. ...... AND SHE'S BEAUTIFUL TOO.... :)
Enjoyed immensely watching her do the kata, but what brings me even more joy is seeing that she actually understands the moves of the kata, and not just going through the motions like you see so often for competition kata.
I slowed this down to watch at 0.25 speed, and I still had to watch carefully not to miss what she was doing. There were times that she was moving so fast, all the camera caught was a blur… even when playing back at 0.25x speed. Amazing.

Wearing a heavy gi makes for more intense sounds. She probably has a 14oz gi on and you can tell by how unmovable it is. Heavy gis causes even slight movements to make distinctive sounds compared to light gis. It's for show and not necessarily indicative of good form or power.
