Nice! You showed my Orange Squeezer! I bought that at Harmony Music in Reseda CA back in the early 80s (might have been 79' or so). My buddy Paul traded it for me to Josh for a pedal. I knew it was going to a good home, but I never expected it to show up in a video!
@@emmarossignol4445 No, I traded this with Josh just last year. I'm sure he has a number of Orange Squeezers (although not sure how many in original box with the original sales receipt). I've had that since high school (class of 81'). And would pull it out occasionally. I don't know what happened to the lid, but I noticed that the receipt was in the bottom of the box when I pulled it out last year to send to Josh. It was pretty faded, but I left it in for the heck of it.
God I love you guys so much! Name another show where the “main guy” (whose name is literally the name of the show) goes on a family vacation for a few weeks and the show doesn’t miss a beat! Of course you had to drop this exactly four days after I ordered my 3 series compressor instead of the pulp’n peel, after I couldn’t choose between them for months…
These jams are THE BEST i've ever heard on this channel! Let these two play more of these jams please. Oh, and the sound engineering here is incredible....
I was a customer of Harmony Music in the San Fernando Valley (California) on Canby Avenue. The owner was a great person. And 45 years later, I still have some gear from his shop. Thanks for the memory.
The Yamaha FG series is so underrated when it comes to acoustics. Yamaha as a brand overall is underrated when it comes to instruments. Good quality, great sound, and affordable.
Yamaha also pulls their weight if you want a motorbike or a boat, or a synth, a guitar, a kick ass bass, a grand piano, a compact digital piano, maybe a DAW, a Helix stomp, an amp for both bass and guitar, a mixing console, decent set of speakers, a conferencing solution, a saxophone, a recorder, a golf cart ... what the f*ck Yamaha?
Yamaha xeno trumpets are top of the line in my experience. Way better than my Bach Stradivarius. Yamaha makes nice stuff. (Yes I’m a trumpeter that loves guitar pedals. Lol)
@@maxadocious I had a FG-75, it was my dad's that he got from my mom on their first anniversary. It was stolen from my car about 12 years ago. The FG-335E is the guitar i have written about 90% of my music on and just feels like home. All of them were 70s or earlier
Saw this 23 minutes after it was uploaded. Had been wavering on the Pulp N Peel all weekend but was wanting The Milkman as well. With the PnP already in my Sweetwater cart - and seeing you pull out the Milkman - I took it as a sign that I needed both so that’s what I did. Great show. So much fun and learned yet a few more tidbits as always.
Hilarious that Addison apologized to the bassists for using DI instead of an amp. We probably are way more sympathetic about going DI than the guitarists are. Lord only knows how often we get asked for a DI signal by the front even when we do have amps set up. Anyway, you're not going to make me regret getting a whitey tighty instead of the pulp n peel. Y'alls little white compressor is still a fine figure of a compressor.
Great episode guys! The Pulp N Peel is the only JHS pedal I own as of now. I love it, and it's always on. I really didn't realize what I had until I had been messing with it for a couple of weeks. It is truly the most flexible/versatile pedal I own.
Two things: I want one! This was a highly entertaining episode as well as demonstrative of the value of the product and the dedication and talent of Josh's cohorts. One of the best episodes I've seen.
This was the pedal that got me intrigued about what these little magic boxes can do. My drummer borrowed one from another guitarist and told me "it will just make your guitar sound better, I dunno why, just try it". Hooked it up, strummed a chord and I was stunned. Just like Nick, I started turning knobs. Saved up and got one, it's truly great, on anything: electric, acoustic, weissenborn (knock off), bass, doesn't matter. It handles and brings the right options to your fingertips and now I've got a better idea of why. Thanks for the videos as always, and contrary to the builders hints, some people use the dirt switch! I immediately noticed it was a sweet bonus option, though I didn't know it was a rat until the pack rat came out and that was mentioned! Just thought it was a good ol dirt to my ears:)
I opened UA-cam without intending to watch a JHS Episode. But I just did. I didn't planned buying a compression pedal. Now I'm not sure how I will survive without this pedal.
Wow, great job. Definitely the first time a JHS show episode has legit surprised me. The guy who works on my amps has always gone on about how great of a circuit the Orange Squeezer is and it seems the Pulp N Peel is a super polished, versatile and expanded iteration. It's easy to tell that the best of these episodes come when you guys are really into and inspired by the piece(s) of gear being discussed and this one was aces top to bottom. The jams, the tones, the conversation, the drum faces (Addison wins), it was all superlative. 🍻💯
Sounded like a Radiohead song off of in rainbows that I cannot think of the name at this second and don’t feel like opening another app to figure it out.
Dear JHS folks, Thank you so much for the free Gravity pick! I recently bought a Morning Glory, love it so much! Never tried these picks before and I dig it
I love the "everything done for you" compression knob. One of my best pedals is the Stereo Electric Mistress, knobs for "rate", "flanger" and "chorus". I turn the "chorus" knob all the way down, rate about 1:00 and the "flange", feedback, resonance and all that crap already done, at about 9:00.They so got it right.
I watched this pretty high and I couldn’t get over how much cooler it’d be if y’all were muppets talking about the pulp n peel. No explanation. No punchline. Just two muppets vibing on a compressor.
Amazing where JHS Show eventually get,... how it evolve to ... I don't know, maybe, real show, like on TV. Solid work! I'm proud and grateful that have an opportunity to watch this (from another part of the world)
Now I wish you did one of these videos about more pedals. Oh, and explained what type of compressor is built in to the other JHS compressors (series 3, righty whitey, etc)
Something worth knowing about the Pulp'n'Peel for all the low end friends: it works brilliantly as a one-stop shop for a slap preset. Bass boosted, compressor up, volume matched and blend at 3 o'clock. Also, imagine contemplating getting a rat pedal for your bass board only to discover a) that you already have one, b) that it already has a blend knob, and c) that you're using it as a slap preset... Thanks for the video! Also, first ever video comment, congratulations!
As much as I have a new appreciation for this pedal, I have to really point out how marvellous is the depth of your musical vocabulary. It's always fun to see your jams. This vid was certainly no exception. Well played, sirs.
I have played for almost 40 years and never thought i would need/use a compressor. I got the JHS V4 because it had the fuzz switch as well as a tone shaping of the pre-amp. I use the compressor now for my semi cleans and cleans about 25% of the time. It is my 1st pedal in the order... unless i plug in the wah.
Yes!! I have been using mine as a distortion pedal wayyy more often than as actual compressor and, while I wasn’t expecting it, I feel extreme validated after watching this video 🤣
Hey! I am actually thinking of buying a compressor and I wonder, what made you choose it over the Dyna Comp, Xotic Compressor or A Keeley compressor, as these would be my top 4 pick!
@@CirilZupan the Pulp is based on the vintage Orange Squeezer, used by Mark Knopfler in the 70's. Think early Dire Straits. There is an specific feel that I like it. The pedal has control over everything I need regarding compression and, as I said, the tone control does magic for your tone. On the top of all this, it has also a Rat circuit. Yes, you heard it. It is also a distortion. Most people, including me, only use sometimes with a little dirt, but you can use as a full on distortion and compressor also.
Just want to say I’m thrilled you’re recommending MeWithoutYou. They’ve probably had the biggest impact on me, on a personal level, and how I listen to music.
As much as I love rock, I could have listen to a whole record of that last jam. After listening to this demo of the pedal (and that small delay) I might need to build a whole new board.
Alright! Consider me sold- I'll have to get a Pulp 'N' Peel a little further on down the road; it's on my list now and will probably be my first JHS purchase. Well played, Sirs- well played.

I went with some friends from work who loved Circa Survive also but didnt think they liked MEWITHOUTYOU but I told them just wait for their set "they certainly arent what your expecting". The Pulp n’ Peel was my first JHS pedal and if I didn’t have enough reasons to love it, I definitely would after this vid. Another great video of great content. Love it.

It's such a great compression pedal this one and JHS lads and lass's it's commonly sold out at my local pedal shop. Just thought you might like to know your efforts are not in vain and videos like this one are frustratingly going to increase it's harder to come by availability, but hey that's certainly the opposite of a bad thing for JHS. ROCK ON GUYS!!!
New levels being achieved daily at JHS. I remember thinking I would love to work for JHS? Shoot, you better bring some talent to that interview, I’ll tell you what!
So underrated I love this pedal. Well damn I’m all buying a keely caverns too. I use the dirt switch with a chorus and of course for acoustic. The tele tone was perfect. Love that sound. Btw Nick your acoustic sounded great. You guys are beyond talented. Probably one of the best Vlogs by JHS. Great job guys.
Absolutely PHENOMENAL acoustic tone at 11:15! You can hear the “old” seasoned tone of the old guitar, and if that’s relic’d (which I don’t think it is) then good fuckin lord does it sound stunning. Wow, fellers!
Nick and Addison. I'm very pleased with your recent videos! You guys work together well, and Josh is really great, so your videos are all GREAT!!!!! Love the versions of the Pulp and Peel, the newest one that has the Rat is definitely something I'd purchase. Thanks for the great videos, and jams!!!!! Peace, Keith in RVA- That's Richmond, Va. a Musical city.... Well, it was, I don't get out as much these days, but I think there's still a lot of talent here?
Thanks Guy! Seriously, I didn't know how much I needed this peddle until I got one. Wow! Humm . . . Now, I'm wondering what I'm missing out on without the Morning Glory. Sneaky good stuff you guys are cooking up over there. Love it! TY!
Blood Orange one of the best jams I've heard on the show! Right up my alley, I need to play stuff like that. Man, the jam was so good that I forgot that the pedal was a compressor! 😂
I was just thinking the drum faces were noticably hype and then you said you're working on your drum faces. I tell you that's it dude. You got it. More of that please. So hype.
I’ve been watching this channel for a while and put this pedal on my Christmas list. Just opened it up and I can’t express how excited I am. Love your content; keep it coming please!
This video convinced me to convince Shelby to get me one for Christmas. Been wanting a “fancy” compressor for a while and this is all I hoped for and more. 👏
Great timing. I'm looking for a compressor pedal, and this one just shot to the top of my list. Thanks for the comprehensive demo. And thanks for including country in the jams - it's a genre that often gets forgotten/ignored.
Honestly, I thought this was going to be a boring episode but my mind was blown. Nice work! Just can’t believe Jets to Brazil’s “Orange Rhyming Dictionary” didn’t make record time.
Great way to highlight all the things you can do w this pedal. I own one and while compression isn’t sexy this pedal makes it tasty and versatile. I’d also point out it has a foot switch output for the dirt feature and an xrl output. This is a great pedal for range of features and applications. Plus it looks cool. Buy one you’ll always find a use for it.
I feel like Nick and Addisons’ style of jams speak to my musical taste more than Josh’s (sorry Josh). I would have never known the awesomeness of this pedal if not for this episode, it’s basically like a mixer channel in a box. I think the name compressor totally understates what it actually is.
That a VINTAGE MIJ YAMAHA FG ACOUSTIC?!?! I absolutely love the sound of that through the Pulp n Peel, gonna eventually have to get BOTH! Keep up with the informative vids and tasty jams guys!!

Great job. It will be my first JHS pedal ever.
Hey! What an amazing reduction of the amount of "like"-abuse! I'm truly impressed, just as I was by the whole show. Great playing, guys!
This may have just sold me on my first JHS pedal purchase. THANK YOU
It's such a great compression pedal this one and JHS lads and lass's it's commonly sold out at my local pedal shop. Just thought you might like to know your efforts are not in vain and videos like this one are frustratingly going to increase it's harder to come by availability, but hey that's certainly the opposite of a bad thing for JHS. ROCK ON GUYS!!!
I've got an AT+ on the way! Can't wait! Been wanting one since the first time I heard the demo 👍👍
Cheerful presentation of the versatile pedal by the versatile talented guys 💖 Wish it could compress after drive also.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I was just thinking the drum faces were noticably hype and then you said you're working on your drum faces. I tell you that's it dude. You got it. More of that please. So hype.
I’ve been watching this channel for a while and put this pedal on my Christmas list. Just opened it up and I can’t express how excited I am. Love your content; keep it coming please!
Great tones out of that box, but also just a lot of great playing and inventive musicianship on display. Thanks…
I feel like you made this video just for me and my love of song graphics interjections. JHS rules.
This video convinced me to convince Shelby to get me one for Christmas. Been wanting a “fancy” compressor for a while and this is all I hoped for and more. 👏
My biggest wish for 2024 is a Pulp'N'Peel with boost, Wampler Cory Wong style... Congrats from Spain!! excellent episode
Great timing. I'm looking for a compressor pedal, and this one just shot to the top of my list. Thanks for the comprehensive demo. And thanks for including country in the jams - it's a genre that often gets forgotten/ignored.
Wampler ego comp is also pretty good.
Umm...no. Every single compressor demo is a tele chicken pickin. We need other genres.
Honestly, I thought this was going to be a boring episode but my mind was blown. Nice work! Just can’t believe Jets to Brazil’s “Orange Rhyming Dictionary” didn’t make record time.
Just… such a good episode 🥲
19:58 “Ajjison knows this” WURDZ IS HAAAAAARRRRDDD
Great way to highlight all the things you can do w this pedal. I own one and while compression isn’t sexy this pedal makes it tasty and versatile. I’d also point out it has a foot switch output for the dirt feature and an xrl output. This is a great pedal for range of features and applications. Plus it looks cool. Buy one you’ll always find a use for it.
First off, Caverns is such an amazing pedal. Second, while I miss Josh, you two did a great job of filling in for him. Lastly, mewithoutYou!
I love this orange squeezer, I'm convinced I'm going to get my first compressor.
Big support for the Nick and Addison episodes. You are both very talented and very entertaining to boot. Josh, not so much...SICK BURN!!
The jams were so tight in this episode and I'm officially sold on this pedal. Didn't think I needed a compressor. Well done guys!
Keep up with the informative vids and tasty jams guys!!
you just sold some Pulp N Peels and Keeley Caverns! the acoustic sound was great/inspiring/joyful
B'S Music, right here in Central Michigan!! Love those guys, Been going there since I got my first guitar! ROCK ON DUDES
I’ll have to look at this, powerful multi-purpose pedal that could be useful on my minimalist board.
I could listen to blood orange all day! Nick is such an excellent drummer
Great video! I love how Addisons hair grew back in the jams😄
Great video! I would love to see more JHS pedals have their own feature on the channel. Along with the pedal history / pedal builder spotlight stuff.
