      The visor is only $17 and you can get some foam board to make the rest of the helmet which is really cheap. If you are a kid like me, you can just ask your parents.

      +Punished Props I get it on amazon use Windex to allow it to slide on the visor surface for positioning then gently squeegee out the excess and trim to fit. I use thin plastic from 2 or 3 liter bottles if I'm being cheap or the really nice plastic from hobby town bout $2-$5 for a 8.5x11 depending on the thickness that also comes in a variety of colors.

Now that i know where to buy the chrome mask, i was wondering if there was a black transparent paint i could use that actually works. Also, how would i light up the mask without blocking my vision because there's a blue florescent triangle in the centre.

  • @Grimmers
    @Grimmers 8 років тому

    Wonder how these are actually made. I know lots of people use idye polymer dyes for some very dark but extremely visible visors, but I don't think there's any chrome offerings. Must be some specialty film layer, probably whatever they make cheap mirror sunglasses out of I guess, especially since you guys mentioned it rubs off easily.

  • @brianwiles3887
    @brianwiles3887 6 років тому +1

    I've learned everything I know from evil Ted and Punished Props tutorial videos, but this one kinda sucks. I ordered 3 of these chrome visors from amazon and they were shipped with no bubble wrap so after they banged around inside the box all the way from California to Kentucky, one was so scratched I had to trash it. I went to Lowes and bought some Krylon gloss krystal clear paint and with only one coat it's so foggy you can't even see through it. $30 wasted and now I'm back to square one trying to decide if I'd be better off chancing another one without sealing it and hope I can keep it from getting scratched to pieces with a simple cosplay outing...not to mention the fact that after sealing it the mirrored effect turned into a brushed nickel look.

    • @punishedprops
      @punishedprops  6 років тому

      I'm sorry you had so much trouble with the visors. I've never tried spraying something like that with Crystal Clear, that's Ted's things. Perhaps he could help you figure out what went wrong?

    • @brianwiles3887
      @brianwiles3887 6 років тому

      No worries brother. I think I used the wrong kind of paint actually. It was the same name and brand but had a different label than what you suggested. A guy that works at the costume shop where I went to get a few more of the chrome masks suggested using non aerosol pump hair spray and that worked perfectly! Hose it down good and use a blow dryer to dry it quickly to keep it from showing spots and pooling up in places!

    Question, what spray do you use for the chrome mask?

    Is it possible to buy one of these masks, strip the chrome with acetone, and dye the plastic black?

      I haven't tried, but I bet that could work. There are probably perfectly clear ones available too.
