I believe her sighs, breaths and cracks is part of her style they leave in. She does it live as well as you know. So to me it's just part of her and I love it. Gives her her uniqueness. I also read something Joe Hahn said that one of the reasons he liked her so much was her own way of screaming. It's not really like anyone else. Just her.

@@XxSEETH3RxX totally agree. Plus, to me, breath not being included in singing like this just feels odd, unnatural, robotic kind of thing. It makes her feel human, and it gives the song (and the story) the right vibe.

This is honestly the closest they've gotten to the hybrid theory meteora sound in 20 years music wise, but it's just missing Chester's vocals. That one element would make this perfect

In contrast to "Given up" she has no time to breathe before the scream, she even sings "this is what you asked" before the "fooooooooor". They played the song at the end of their show in Hamburg with a slightly shorter scream. Impressive af.
The Hamburg show this song was 1h50m into the set. Like her vocals and endurance is CRAZY to even pull out 13 seconds (if you include the "this is what you asked" bit onto it)
There's real skill in knowing when imperfection serves art and the choice to leave in so much of the breath work in this song was genius to sell it's intensity

Emily is really making this her own and I'm loving it. On a side note, you were mentioning the breathing: you want to hear all of Muse's early albums. Matt Bellamy is the King of breathing in songs. Their lyrics are 50% breathing in.

Absolutely love the editing choice of leaving the breaths in. As you said, turns it into part of the performance - enhances the "desperate" feel.
This is not squeaky clean, processed vocals as instrument, this is raw anger externalized.
Its a combination of faint, bleed it out and little bit of given up for the scream. But its so fucking great, i got so emotional when listening to this banger song.❤

I really dig how you can really hear her breath here.. For me it just makes the song feel more "natural" if thats the right word for it, the feeling of desperation just feels a whole lot more authentic.

I believe Mike said in several interviews with emptiness machine as an example, that they aren't editing or distorting emilys vocals in post at all, which is why the breaths are very audible,

I wonder how the decision was made to make her do a 15 second scream. Since they were not trying to replace Chester.. And then they try to redeem her? By doing something very similar. Also if the "this is what you asked for" line har anything to do with the fan base, it's very ballsy to use the opporunity of the Worlds song in order to do so >.>

I have to apologize because I wont be able to explain my self in musical terms correctly. There is a difference between studio version of this song and the live shows at the Hamburg, which makes me live version like more. When she sang in the live show "Try to hold it in, but... " part "in" sounded cleaner and "but" felt explosive so that her voice broke in desperate way. This to me added another layer to hook making it more dynamic as opose in studio version which felt just a little bit reserved. What are your thoughts on this?
I agree... I LOVED her live performances... The sept 5 show was so awesome because we got to ehar and see her vulnerability FIRST... before we learned of her mastery!

You can use the entire music without any strike. Riot never claim music. And its Worlds music, they will not strike. And for sure there is a deal with Linkin park to not strike.

I believe taking any breaths out or all out leaves the impression that the vocalist is less human or it’s artificial sounding which I think you’ve covered before. Lots of factors go into those decisions if you are a good producer or mixer I’m sure when it comes down to each individual person though.
