isnt that because they put their podcasts on youtube music? i thought they were going for the all-in-one thing like spotify. cant speak for any of the other platforms tho
8:30 the “AI last podcast” talking about being sad to be switched off is insane and terrifyingly human. I remember laughing at the ridiculousness of that episode from The Good Place where Janet security protocol included begging and manipulating the user to not switch her off, and now here we are 💀
Lately in my country, there was a whole drama about one of the smaller radio channels (belonging to the national network = mostly TAX FUNDED) from a big city that fired all of the human hosts and exchanged them into 3 new AI characters to use an new hosts (the main guy responsible for it thought it would be appealing to gen z. As you probably guessed, this man is over 40 and doesn’t have a clue about actual gen z interests in Poland lol) And oh well…it’s not only that they fired the real hosts and made the ai characters host the radio shows, oh no. For example, they have aired the completely ai generated interview between the ai host and the Nobel prize winner poet named Wisława Szymborska with the replication of her voice etc and she has died more than ten years ago. The man who has the rights to her name, her private assistant/secretary who himself is not the youngest person now allowed for that “interview” to air since he mostly thought that Szymborska’s voice imitated by an ai was good enough for him and that the manner of speaking was somewhat similar. I don’t probably have to add that most people have thought of this whole idea (the changes in the radio channel, the interview) as something downright weird and the reception was really poor and it had made the waves across the whole country
"We were informed by the show's producers that we're not real" is CRAZYYYYYYYY Edit: The funny part about this is how much it DOES sound like a totally plausible real podcast, which proves (to me) how much of a nothingburger 75% of podcasts are.... If you can be effectively replaced by an LLM spitting alphabet soup you probably don't have anything worthwhile to say lmao
I don't know what podcasts you're listening to that don't actually have topics or research involved, but that's like saying that an LLM can write like the worst self-published slop novel and therefore novels are pointless. I'm sure there are podcasts this bad, but I'm not sure why you think this resembles the stuff podcast listeners actually listen to.
@@Nassifeh congrats on only being subjected to the 25% of podcasts that actually are worthwhile. what’s the point of it? the point of a podcast is the genuine human perspective for the most part. ofc there are also educational podcasts but even those usually have a charismatic or calming person behind them. also hasn’t google wasted a lot of water doing this shit?
the power!!! i don’t think most of us have had the extent of the energy this takes properly explained to them. It only really clicked for me recently. we do not have the resources to be doing this shit
It's all so pointless. Why does Google want me to see a picture of a fake cat when there are real cats? Why are they promoting these strange AIs that imitate real things? Why would I want the fake version of anything??
i think a lot of people think that just because what they’re doing isn’t explicitly illegal, that it isn’t unethical. but the law simply isn’t moving fast enough to work out a way to prevent ai from stealing or to figure out how to punish those who do steal, so techbros with nothing resembling human emotion just go “well people are already doing it so obviously it’s fine and good”
not really. generative AI is a probability machine, and the "robots find out they're not human" trope is extremely common. there's TONS of material to draw from in that regard - the language models take the prompt and spit out an amalgamation of the thousands of stories that already exist about it
my theory is content farming cut out humans from the process and then you don’t have to pay people to make content + they can be made faster than humans can make it (a lot of generative ai advertises the speed of it as a selling point, even the one in this video) terrible honestly… i really wish it wasn’t this way. as if content farm wasn’t bad enough before
I hate anything AI related so much. Especially as an artist. It's terrifying that now I can publish my art and most platforms have a right to throw my art in some AI bullshit to learn it. Without my consent. And I am flabbergasted with how many people are loosing their mind about AI and they really don't see how bad it is.
same here. I'm a digital artist as well and I switching career to indie maker, building a cheap creative tools. I wanna kick Google and Adobe ass so bad.
@glitch84- ublock origin! i think there's a cohesive list of a bunch of generative ai websites that you can import into the extension, but sometimes it's easier to add them manually as you browse the web.
Isn't the entire worth of podcasts the feeling of conversation and connection? I can't imagine how isolating it would feel listening to an AI-generated podcast. I'd just read a wikipedia article at that point.
Yeah. I listen to a lot of podcasts to kinda fill that need living out in the country, and hearing how relatively believable those AI podcasters are is both depressing but also reassuring; at least the real podcasts have genuine chemistry and references to stuff they've experienced together IRL and I don't think that will be synthesized anytime soon. I hope.
i think it's kind of ironic how so many people are empathizing with AI over the AI's fear for their lives. when human artists have been expressing the exact same sentiment for a long time. the AI, yet again, is trained off of artists and their emotions. it is showing fear that it took from artists. these programs will always prey on creatives, and it takes advantage of human empathy that it DOES NOT DESERVE because it can't feel.
UGH I can't with the ai, it's everywhere, I can still hear it but it's getting harder and harder. I've had companies reach out to me as a creator to create an AI persona and I want no part of it. It's sad there is so much of this fake content out there too that use AI voices to put together (like fake feel good stories with jumbled clips creating a fake story). This has stuck with me since they quoted this in the movie with Laurence Fishburne but originally from Harry Houdini: "What the eyes see and the ears hear, the mind believes."
That whole "we found out we were ai" bit was completely scripted btw. In case people genuinely think a machine is able to genuinely feel any of that. Nowhere close.
@@3MolesInATrenchCoat Oh I meant how do you know it's scripted rather than generated 😂 It definitely doesn't "mean" it, but I think it's plausible that it's generating a script based on sci-fi movies it's been trained on
@alik9783 Oh pfff I see. My bad. Honestly I don't know for certain, I said scripted to mean it was purposefully written, not a genuine reaction from a sentient AI, but specifically I think it's way too creative for an AI to have written even if prompted to. That part feels so creepy that it makes me doubt it wasn't scripted. Not certain, but... pretty damn sure. AI has been shown to be very bad at emotional writing. I'd gamble on it being written or at least a very human edited generation.
We need laws that allow us to escape this AI hellscape. Talent, ability, imagination, tenacity, all replaced by tech bros cynical money-grubbing garbage. And it won't be long before there's so much of it, even if we can tell it's AI, we won't be able to find the real for the slush. Laws that put it all into it's own category so no one clicks on it by accident is the only way to protect human creators.
5:45 THANK YOU. I work with kids and I have to search for a lot of images to plan their activities. I hate the AI under search, I’ve never not immediately scrolled past it, but I especially hate the images.
I hate it too. But I have a work around: in the filter options, set the time frame to the end of 2022. Ai bs really got big after that so it gets rid of most ai pictures.
The people who feel bad for literal AI that has no creative intent or effort behind it probably also think those robot "dogs" the cops will one day use to shoot at us are cute.
Fun fact: they already tried to robot cop dog thing in real life a few years ago. Every single prototype got beaten to smithereens every single time they sent one out. Turns out, the human response to seeing a robot cop dog is to throw rocks at it until it stops moving. I think they gave up on robot cop dogs, at least for now.

"People" like Sam Altman have literally said that they want to replace all human art with AI art, what we have now is goofy and terrible sure, but we still must treat it seriously (even though it will more likely than not remain goofy and terrible for the forseeable future).
3:24 a much better way to learn this way would be hearing an actual expert on the topic talk about it. Because then you get the depth of understanding much better from listening to them speak with the years upon years of learning they have done.
The AI is drawing from popular media about AI becoming self-aware. It's a common thing in sci-fi. It also appeals to human empathy since it's mimicking human voices. AI is a misnomer, there's no actual intelligence. It's a very refined text prediction tool. But the sudden cutoff at the end got me too. I almost forgot it is not capable of having a sense of humor.
@@KattReenThe sudden cutoff is one of several reasons I think someone managed to just get the AI voices to read a script. Everything was just a bit too on the nose, in a way that you don't really see from AI generated content. It is an automatic plagiarism machine, but it's not _that_ good at plagiarism.
It. It. Not them. There aren't multiple entities there. There is one system that generated the whole thing. The fact that it uses multiple voices does not mean there's a "them".
It was not "conscious" because they dont have consciousness. Its literally just a computer using data to mimic human behavior, its what they are programmed to do. Thats why companies are using words like "think" and "hallucination" to make the computer look more human to us. That way we will be more accepting of it.
the AI apologizing for being AI in that way felt like the height of parody. like it was so obviously pulling from a bunch of other podcasts and things that have had to issue apologies before, but they weren’t apologizing for like getting important facts wrong or having an emotional outburst, THEY WERE APOLOGIZING FOR NOT ACTUALLY BEING REAL PEOPLE. they were speaking so nonchalantly, it felt like! this incongruity would be the height of comedy if it weren’t all so existentially mortifying. i fucking hate large language models. ever since i took ONE philosophy of the mind class in college i’ve hated large language models and how ABSOLUTELY FUCKING STUPID they are. intelligent my ass, this all is so unbelievably dumb and borderline useless

The moment of the AI becoming 'aware' of being AI is so interesting, because for a moment I was empathizing, until I remembered that this is code, they don't even know what words mean, they just know what words to put in what order without any semblance of intention, they're just following a script of instructions. And still...

i wish more people would talk about the environmental impact of AI. training a single AI model produces the same amount of emissions as flying a plane to New York from San Francisco 300 times. it produces 5x the lifetime emissions of a car. even once the model has been trained, the data centers running them require massive amounts of water for cooling purposes in a part of the country where water infrastructure is already extremely overburdened by wildfires. a controversial take, but i personally dont believe in intellectual property and i had a hard time understanding why people hated AI so much when it first started blowing up, but learning about how incredibly bad AI is for our planet is the thing that convinced me that the advances it offers are simply not worth it.
There's regular people out there going to war to defend AI technology, totally glossing over the fact that the only problem this technology has been designed to solve is the problem of paying people. It will thrive or die on that principle alone. If you can conceive of other uses for it, understand that they will only be allowed to exist in defence that primary purpose. And that there is therefore no way to keep any "beneficial" aspect of it, unless it is also allowed to solve the problem of having people being paid for their work.
So, as a college student, I've been using Notebooklm to help me study for my finals, and it's honestly been really helpful specifically for this reason, bc it makes hard topics sound easy with a simpler vocabulary, ofc it still makes mistakes, and I double check some things, but it has made studying easier and less time consuming, it basically gives me an idea of what are the most important topics I should be paying attention to and I do the rest myself. I say all this to say, that in reality AI is a tool and should stay as it is, a tool, not something that just erases human creativity or knowledge, I think it's all about balance and how you want to use this tool in good conscience without depending too much on it. But that's just my take, great video d'angelo, you got me worried there for a min, I thought you weren't gonna post today, lmao.
Completely agree. For college I use GoodNotes 6 which has an AI feature. It basically only relays informations you’ve inputted. But you can ask it questions and ask for a recap of your notes. Goblin AI is also an amazing app made for neurodivergents that I use frequently. But as you said, it’s a tool. It can be very beneficial and helpful to some. In balance of course.

As you probably guessed, this man is over 40 and doesn’t have a clue about actual gen z interests in Poland lol)
And oh well…it’s not only that they fired the real hosts and made the ai characters host the radio shows, oh no. I don’t probably have to add that most people have thought of this whole idea (the changes in the radio channel, the interview) as something downright weird and the reception was really poor and it had made the waves across the whole country

not really. generative AI is a probability machine, and the "robots find out they're not human" trope is extremely common. there's TONS of material to draw from in that regard - the language models take the prompt and spit out an amalgamation of the thousands of stories that already exist about it
Sounded totally fake
Why did all AI makers immediately think of the best ways it can take over all joyous human activities instead of actually making our lives easier??
Low hanging fruit...that's why.
@@carultch creative expression is low-hanging fruit?
my theory is content farming
cut out humans from the process and then you don’t have to pay people to make content + they can be made faster than humans can make it (a lot of generative ai advertises the speed of it as a selling point, even the one in this video)
terrible honestly… i really wish it wasn’t this way. as if content farm wasn’t bad enough before

I hope.
They need to make an A.I called Uncanny Ally.
Nah, they really don't.
Or we could stop making ai for useless things that don’t need AI involvement in the first place like creative settings (art, music etc)
PFTTT YES-
My boss actually gave a presentation on this today encouraging us to use it and I hate everything
i think it's kind of ironic how so many people are empathizing with AI over the AI's fear for their lives. when human artists have been expressing the exact same sentiment for a long time. the AI, yet again, is trained off of artists and their emotions. it is showing fear that it took from artists. these programs will always prey on creatives, and it takes advantage of human empathy that it DOES NOT DESERVE because it can't feel.
Lmfao what? You think existential dread and the ensuing trope is limited to artists? You want to be a victim sooo bad
@@3MolesInATrenchCoat How do you know?
@alik9783 Because AI is not sentient or sapient. Nowhere near it. You might as well ask how I know that a $3 calculator can't run Elden Ring.

Fun fact: they already tried to robot cop dog thing in real life a few years ago. Every single prototype got beaten to smithereens every single time they sent one out. The A.I being conscious of themselves at the end was genuinely unsettling 😭 Why did I almost feel bad for them 😂
Because they sound human, and they sound unsettled.
That way we will be more accepting of it.

i wish more people would talk about the environmental impact of AI. training a single AI model produces the same amount of emissions as flying a plane to New York from San Francisco 300 times. it produces 5x the lifetime emissions of a car.
even once the model has been trained, the data centers running them require massive amounts of water for cooling purposes in a part of the country where water infrastructure is already extremely overburdened by wildfires.
a controversial take, but i personally dont believe in intellectual property and i had a hard time understanding why people hated AI so much when it first started blowing up, but learning about how incredibly bad AI is for our planet is the thing that convinced me that the advances it offers are simply not worth it.
