That sound of water overflowing the 75g at 10pm while water changing and tending to babies at the same time...

This was WAY before the time of either one of you. Back when all we had was 6 channels over the air for television, no such thing yet as even cable and before the time of VCR's. Early 1970's, there was a weekly show about fish keeping on PBS, OPB channel 10 here in Portland OR. It was great for it's time, was supported by Aquarium Hobbyist magazine. Tuned in to that every week. Times have really changed, now I stream your weekly podcasts on a Roku television broadcast from the internet with a Wi-Fi modem. Some UA-cam videos are good and some are just BS, viewer beware! Yours is generally one of the good ones. I appreciate all that both of you do to make this happen.

    1. I’ve had tank cycle crashes that wiped out one third of my tank’s population, on two different occasions, back when I was stupid and thoroughly rinsed my canister filters in tap water and cleaned both filters on the same day.
    2. A velvet outbreak in 2015.
    3. My dad using my hobby against me when I was a freshman in high school. One fish flushed down the toilet every time I missed an assignment, failed a quiz/test, or had a grade in a class drop down to a D or F. Me and my mom eventually bullied my dad into leaving the fish tank un-involved in my grades.
    4. A bizarre situation where I had an entire school of roseline sharks dropping like flies. I just kept buying more and more in hopes they’d stop dying. Still no idea to this day what they had but it seemed to only be targeting the roselines because all of the other species in my tank were fine. Once they all died off, I just bought more from a different fish store and they started thriving. It was a very weird situation, also expensive because these things were already 4 inches when I was buying them.

This reminded me that I do have a power strip on the floor under my 55 gallon. I was having a tough time trying to attach it to the stand and I decided to try again the next day with zip ties and I never did!! I’m going to fix it as soon as I get home.

PEX would be a great solution to the weak pipe problem in a DIY setup. But at 72 I am trying to keep it to 5 tank maximum. 🤣🤪🙏
PS I will be critiquing the electrical situation in the basement!
    Thank you, Gentlemen!

    My horror stories
    1. Came back from Six Flags happy as a clam to a bacterial bloom and dead fish. This issue happened over the course of two years multiple times only for me to realize I didn’t have enough filtration or anywhere for the beneficial bacteria to grow and I was feeding my fish wayyyy too much . Got a canister filter from a coworker and no more bloom.
    2. I overstuffed my HOB filter and came home from work to water on the carpet and through the ceiling. Got cursed out and had to throw away my Fluval aquaclear 😢.
    3. I try to curb how many times I feed my fish so after three days they unfortunately started eating each other majority of my guppies find was ripped.
    4. I over medicated my fish for possible internal parasites and lost a majority of my guppy colony. I don’t do guppies anymore their wonderful fish but didn’t realize they are prone to so many diseases.
    5. My shrimp colony died due to a bacterial bloom
    6. My betta fish jumped out the tank 😢

Definitely the best fishkeeping podcast on UA-cam and it makes me hate Mondays a little less 😆. The water change horror story at the end is the reason why when I do water changes, I fill up a large plastic tote in the bathtub with new water, add seachem Prime to the tote, then run an electric pump with a 25 foot hose to the tank. Water is dechlorinated before it ever makes contact with the tank.

30 years ago, i had a happy little pair of fancy goldfish. I was really sick one day but noticed the water was dirty, so i changed it. However, i neglected to add a dechlorinator. I walked in the room later, and they were dead with their mouths wide open. I was so disturbed that i never had fish again until i decided to buy a tank last fall. It just looked liked they had a terrible death. It broke my heart.

I happen to guess the rummy nose cause I keep mostly discus, And I guess to me there discus not as much as a hassle to keep as people are leaf to believe, personally. But I have never been able to keep rummy’s for whatever reason the always get ick and die. I would never personally keep rummy with discus lol. Just cool and funny how people differ on the hobby. That’s what I love. and we can have different stories. And experience. Love the vid. Thanks

Loved this episode! I have my horror stories and I have the stories that I can’t believe I was that person, wanna give em a shake lol. Without say Fish keeping brings some things along with it, some challenges. But if it isn’t for perseverance and patience we are left with dreams and feelings, good and bad. I hate it if it became a thing but I always say, never be afraid to do enough, don’t worry about time or energy or money because delays or going half way to repeat it again and Again, will always cost more and some things can’t be replaced. This being said the learning curve to understand what enough is almost like seeing alien life. Until it’s seen it’s just a story, a fish story! Stay happy and healthy my friends! 😊❤

Rummynose are often used in tanks with Discus to be the "Canary" because they are a lot more sensitive. The brightness of their nose often is an indicator if something is wrong. We change large amounts of water with our discus and the discus are fine. They love new water. But we have here only chlorine rather than chloramines which I think makes a big difference. Great episode, thanks again.

I just got some really nice water wisteria from KG Tropicals! I've purchased from big and small online sellers, as well as some local LFS retailers, and KG Tropicals is by far the best. No duckweed, no snails, healthy plants, fantastic packaging...5 stars, highly recommend!

Was it already submerged growth? I got some wisteria from a plant seller that I’ve gotten most of my plants from for my other 11 tanks and it ALL melted and never grew back. 😢 I really wanted those cool fluffy leaves but now I’m gunshy of it

Oh man. Those chlorine shocks…. I still have ptsd from when half my cichlid tank got taken out from one. 15ish years ago. I still double or triple dose dechlorinator for the whole volume of the tank even if I’m doing 10% water change to this day. 💀

I use a big 200L plastic rainwater tub to fill up with tapwater. I add watertreatment and an airstone and let it sit for a few days. And only fill my tanks with that water.

I have a 150 liter tank. I have 10 corydoras catfish, cardinal tetras, and Neocaridina shrimp in there. My Corydoras are not doing well? They appear to eat when I feed them, but they seem to be losing weight and have become very sluggish. I have lost 3 of them already. I do weekly water changes, and my ph looks good. All the cardinal tetras and shrimp look perfectly healthy??
