As someone who is both disabled and immunocompromised, this means a lot. Hearing people say "oh, it's only the disabled that get sick and die", it's like, what, my life is worth nothing to you? You don't care if I die? It's like people don't realize that you are talking about ACTUAL PEOPLE. And besides, my disabilities are invisible - if I'm having a good day, you'd NEVER realise that I have serious disorders.

I hated seeing guys on insta comment that the sick people would be the first ones to go, that they’re healthy and don’t need a mask. And then the antivaxers who didn’t want their kids yo be vaccinated for school. (Yet in order for their kids to attend school they need, polio, chicken pox and other vaccines). But sorry just me ranting lol

Felt this so hard! Covid wrecked my immune system! Long Covid caused autoantibodies to produce in my body, which means flu or similar infections can literally kill me! Same thing with my chemical intolerance to otc’s! It increases my risk of complications because I can’t take any medications!
Edit: I also almost forgot to mention the constant joint pain and weakness. Long Covid can cause a lot more problems than people realize! Mask up during high and medium case levels! Get vaccinated if able!

I hate to say it, but only 200,000 deaths at the end of this pandemic would really be a better case scenario for us, even though it's still a tragic loss. The US is huge compared to most other countries. We rank 3rd highest in population only behind China and India, at 331,002,651 total people. That's one country being almost half of Europe's entire population. So it makes sense that statistically more people here will contract the virus or die from it compared to other countries.
I've been keeping track of the charts and numbers reported on www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ . The US is 1st in both total cases and total deaths. We have over 650,000 more cases than the next highest case totals, and 20,000 more deaths than the next highest death totals. But if you compare each of the top several country's number infected to their total population, then the US's infection rate is in the low-mid range. Many countries have a lower infection rate, but a lot of others have even higher rates than we do despite us having way more total case numbers. Also, if you arrange the charts based on 'Deaths per 1Mil Pop', then surprisingly the US ranks 15th at 144 deaths per 1 million population. It's not great, and we'd preferably be lower down on that ranking, but it's still better than the countries who have between 1,100 - 200 deaths per 1M pop. Especially considering we have 100s more million people than those other countries.
But honestly, nobody really knows how many people are going to catch this virus or die of it. The numbers are changing every single day, so every prediction they've given is just pure conjecture. Even scientist's and expert's absolute best educated guesses are probably going to be wrong. I guess what I'm trying to say is that as bad as things are now, I truly believe that things could be MUCH worse, and I hope it never gets to that. So yea, I think 200,000 could be considered a "success" rate while still being absolutely awful and tragic.

    • @jesuschrist4752
      @jesuschrist4752 4 роки тому +21

When the predicted amount of deaths by this point was up in several millions category, technically it is a net win. Not saying that 200k deaths is ideal, but its better that what we all were expecting

    • @itsjustnadia
      @itsjustnadia 4 роки тому +8

And it sounds even worse when you think about how the Pontic genocide at the hands of the Turks came to a number of about 500.000 people that is not far away from the number of deaths from the coronavirus. And how many have died worldwide because of lack of protective measures?

Yes! I ran into 2 people on the internet and they tried arguing with me that we should open back up and just isolate the people who are more likely to get the disease. And kept trying to justify their arguments by saying "well you drive everyday, so you should stop driving because [insert percentage here] die from car accidents".
I quit trying to argue at this point with these people.

When Jessica said that getting diagnosed was such a relief, I felt that on a deeper level. It kinds goes both ways. You're relieved, but also, a ton of things is dropped on you and that is not very relieving, it's the opposite. I'm also currently waiting to hopefully get diagnosed with yet another disease, and the feeling of insecurity and anxiety that comes with that is terrible. I've been on the waitlist for so long, but now I'm finally nearing my appointment.

I remember when I found Jessica's channel, I was suffering from terrible pain in all my body but I was procrastinating going to the doctor cause xmas was near and I didn't want to ruin it for the family in case it was bad news. I actually wrote to her saying I was scared and that I felt like if I didn't have a diagnosis I could pretend I didn't have a problem.
Turns out when I finally got my lupus diagnosis I was glad that I was able to make the pain go away with medication, and when I found out it comes with depression and chronic fatigue it was relieving to know it wasn't really my "fault" to be a sad lazy potato who fell asleep anywhere (craziest one: at my boss' office during a meeting while standing, not even sitting, I fell to the floor)

Every one of our coworkers were pissed. Lucky for them they left (in fear from my friend solely because of their racism) before any of the managers could show up because they would have been banned. I went about a year and half without seeing her in person but we FaceTimes every few days and texted every single day, despite living less than a mile apart. You can totally maintain relationships online with your immune compromised friends, it’s just about putting in that effort. Nowadays we live about 2,500 miles away from each other, as we both moved after highschool, but maintain contact just the same. She told me it’s hard for her because many people give up on having a friendship with her because of her illness. Isolation isn’t easy for anyone, especially for the chronically Ill. The point of this is to say if you have a friend in isolation, be there for them (online, not physically though).

If you even show concern over these marketing practices you get angry comments for "ruining the fun", even though people know that that's not the sassy company mascot tweeting but just someone hired who exploits those people that think they're not influenced by these marketing strategies.

My husband, daughter and I are all high risk patients and my husband has been an essential worker the entire time. Our most frightening time was when his supervisor ended up catching it after he'd been teasing those who wore masks to work. He'd get real close to them and "ignore" how uncomfortable he made them then laugh about it.
Since our daughter and I have reactive airway we treated my husband coming home exactly like we did when I was still able to work in healthcare. I hold the door for him, he goes straight to washing machine and strips, don't touch sides it washing machine with clothes and go straight to the shower. Loved the part were they talk about how being sick does not have a “look”. As a disabled, immunodeficient young person who doesn’t always look sick I feel that a lot. There should be much more education about that, getting people to remember that they could always be around sick people and act accordingly. Would that be so bad? Worst case scenario, you’re being extra safe unnecessarily. It wouldn’t hurt anyone.

Everyone in my school knew about this and was careful about bumping into me. But as soon as the crutches were gone, people would purposely knock me over, push me into walls and trip me over. Why? Just because I don’t “look” to be recovering doesn’t mean i’ve fully recovered. I know this is a lot worse for immunodeficient people and i’m so sorry if i offended you. But no doctors would believe me for years because I was to young and it was all in my head, it was hormones, it was I was stressed, over worked ect. But one doctor finally listened after seeing everything they “diagnosed” me with, chronic kidney infection, gallbladder problems, liver problems even though I don’t drink, nerve damage in my back (because I feel and broke my tail bone at 11) my feet was oh your feet just are cold, then it was Ibs then ulcerative colitis, then krons (even though I had no symptoms of any of those besides swollen Bowels) after puking 20x in one hour and having one of my migraines my body covered in a rash all over my back, neck ,chest and legs one doctor said nope at the er and refered me to a specialist and there I got the right meds and treatment. Immune deficiencies aren’t just for older people they don’t discriminate lots of them are hereditary and can start at young ages.

This video literally made me cry, especially at the end when he asks if they want to say anything to the immune compromised people at home, I’m also a leukemia survivor so I’m immune compromised right now, I went into my blast stage in 2018 and had a bone marrow transplant in July of 2018. Cancer wise I’m in remission but I’m still dealing with a lot of issues from radiation and transplant that still have me disabled and at risk of catching literally anything. I can say with 100% honesty that cancer never scared me as much as right now and I almost died in the icu once. At least cancer has treatment, not everyone is as lucky as me to survive after treatment and I know that but we barely know anything about covid-19. When people like me get it there’s not much hope of fighting it off or recovering and that has me scared for my life anytime I see my neighbors outside when I’m sitting in my yard even tho were more than 6 feet apart. I wish the people who are demanding everything get re opened and think that I’m willing to die for the economy could see everything through my eyes. I saw a wonderful thing about how "the economy exists to serve people and people don't exist to serve the economy." At the end of the day you have to realize that the economy is just something we have built to function as a society and is not inherently necessary for the survival of our species. The survival of humanity though, is necessary for the survival of the economy. Even if it weren't, what good is an economy that only benefits the young and healthy while everyone else is left to die? The interviewees make great points about how these "economy first" people are in fact incredibly wrong about what will happen if people go back to work, but really I think that isn't the point of why that mindset is so harmful. You can't let the vulnerable die just so the powerful can survive. In this case it's ableism and ageism and classism (since the people who are in most harm are minimum wage workers rather than CEOs who can work remotely) but this idea is one that justifies genocides, slavery, and so many more awful things we have seen throughout history.

My grandma passed away a year ago, January of 2019. She had been suffering with illness for many many years. She had cancer. Before her passing, she spent her last few months in hospitals. We’d go to see her everyday.
I’m happy she passed away earlier and didn’t have to go through this. Imagine having a dying family member who you couldn’t visit and take care of because of this pandemic. It’d break my heart for her to have died alone.

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost both my grandparents last year and I can't imagine them being alone

I feel the same about my sister in law that battled MS and was so severely frail. I am relieved that she never had to fear this and experience the world like this. I'm asthmatic and that's stressful enough.

"its genocide by negligence" damn i hate how accurate that seems 😳

I hate to burst your bubble but genocide is intentional by definition.

@@torin6258 and so? Negligence can be intentional by definition too.

@Torin finally someone who points out the difference btw negligence and intention. 👏🏼
@Rb LadyB ...no. A crime can either be negligent or intentional - and genocide is intentional by default.

Torin states are being INTENTIONALLY re-opened. NOT because it is SAFE. but because they care more about the economy than the safety of their own citizens. i live in iowa. our governor never shut the state down and now things are already reopening. IOWA HAS THE FASTEST RATE OF INCREASING CASES THAN ANY OTHER STATE RIGHT NOW. THREE OF OUR TOWNS ARE IN THE TOP TEN. THE NUMBER ONE (AND TWO i believe) BEING VERY NEAR ME. they are intentionally opening things up when it is absolutely UNSAFE and many more people are going to die and our hospitals will be even more overworked and overcrowded. so many people are going to die because the government does not give a shit about a single one of us. only the state of the economy. maybe genocide isnt quite the right word to use but come the fuck on. the reality is so fucked up so dont get so hung up on how i quoted the literal video.

Daoko Piano negligence can 100% be intentional. a parent who neglects their child?? most times NOT done by fucking accident. this pandemic?? they are INTENTIONALLY NEGLECTING the us citizens, to save their precious economy.

"Genocide by negligence." That really hurt to hear. So many people think "It's not me or those I love dyeing, why should I care?". We can't think like that. Because if we do, no one will ever help or save anyone. If we do, we have no doctors. No nurses. No fire fighters. No one to help us, or anyone, when we need them. We can't think like this. 8:50
Found the poem I was thinking of that said it perfectly. First They Came - by Pastor Martin Niemöller:
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me
