I think the only this that has stopped me going to the Maldives before now was that I was very scared of the prices! $100 boat rides between islands etc ... So it's great to watch this super helpful video! Nice one Joel! 😊👍🏻
Totally agree! It was the same for us until we saw that you could visit local islands and travel a lot cheaper! It's a beautiful country and highly recommend it! thanks for watching! :)
Was there again this year (the same time as you), and it is quite a budget friendly destination if you go to the right places. I think the biggest downside I've found with the local ferries though is the schedules and having to plan around when they are running (which for many is every other day, once or maybe twice a day). So it does take a lot of planning and not so much a destination where you plan along the way. Heading back next year and definitely have to check out a couple of the islands you visited.
Hello, i am from the island "kulhudhuffushi" its a different experience on a more local island, but there are guest houses still, id say kulhudhuffushi is one of the top 4 best islands, education, medical and job wise
You're doing a great job. This is my first comment ever and it's for you. You're excellent at describing costs to watch whale trips. Take care of yourself and your wonderful girl friend ❤️.
you can have Maldives like experience in Lakshadweep Islands in India too. it is right next to Maldives and has similar beaches but tourism is not as developed as Maldives in Lakshadweep so it is way cheaper. but the colour of water, the beaches, the people, the coral reefs everything is very similar in Lakshadweep as to Maldives. thing about India is most beautiful places of the country are all hidden.
@@HaThuYoga No just Indian visa. But, you need to register with a tour company. They will help you get yourself registered at the Lakshadweep police station once you reach there. It's because it's also a biosphere reserve.
Nice to see Thulusdhoo and many places that I've been to myself, lived there for half a year. You should have done a dive on Thulusdhoo, or even done a scuba course! It's awesome. Those scenes with 30 people and the whaleshark are terrible, I wouldnt do that - awful. And yes, bring USD, you can read this everywhere. Staff are often to be paid in USD and as you said, USD are difficult to get, the further away from Male' you are - hence the exchange rates, which are depending on the distance from Male' - no rip off.. Maafushi really has no proper beach anymore and the cheap mentality makes it difficult to set up proper businesses.. and with all those people comes up a lot of rubbish. Surprised this wasnt mentioned at all - the lack of a proper waste management system is so bad, and worse with all those people who dont want to spend much at all. See it as a support for the local population whose jobs in fisheries and agriculture shift towards tourism. Who walks around shirtless anyway? Terrible behaviour - also not allowed for example in Lombok's Gili islands. Ideas for Maldivian local islands: Bring cat food if you have some kg left in your luggage allowance. And find a guest house to donate your food to and ideally one that will spay and neuter the stray cats. These are the best people. On Thulusdhoo there are several, thankfully.
Hi Joel, thank you for such an informative trip guide. I have made my plans aligned with your recommendations. I have a quick question if you could be kind to support please. Do you need any permits to fly the sub 250 gm drones in Maldives? If yes, how do I get it and what was your experience like?
After watching this video, I feel like I spent the whole day in the Maldives. The sounds of waves, soft sand and emotional moments - all of them are perfectly conveyed in the frames. It's incredible the power such a beautiful place can have. It's definitely worth adding the Maldives to your list of places to visit in your life!
Great video! Could you tell how does it look like with internet connection on the local islands? I'm thinking of going but I would need to work remotley too and not sure if I can count on wifi there, either from place where I might be staying or by buying local sim. Thanks!
what a great information. Thanks for the well guided tips. Just found out your channel and subscribed immideatly. i have one question tho, when were you guys traveled Maldives exactly? i mean which month of the year? i think you almost haven't encountered with huge rains or typhoons. is it Dry season? please let me know. Thank you again!
Joel, I'll advise you to also talk more on the bad things. Dhigurah doesn't really have that much of what you would call a beach. It's non existent almost with the water touching the forest. And as a rule of thumb if you go to a island where the locals live, it will be trashier compared to private resorts because of you guessed it, locals
Really good content, we appreciate the guidance 🙂 P.S: the world map from the wall is amazing. Could you please let me know from where can I get one? Appreciated 🍻
me and my wife just back from Maldives a week ago, we brought a minimum of 10kg of MRE into the island so that we could save on food; the food on the islands (Male, Maafushi and others) were just OK-ish but we did splurge in dinner buffets!
Hello there! I’m from Philippines. Can you recommend your accomodation stay in Maldives? The cheaper one. And also, could you recommend tour guide for the boat tour?
But you cant compare the local islands to resorts… is like comparing Peugeot to aston martin 🙄 the double bed on a first accommodation was small… also food in local islands are not really good .. met a couple on my way back, they spent 3 day on the local island , and they said: “ we hated it , it was so bad “ … so if you are young and budgeting than its ok I guess..🤷♀️
What ever you do don’t go dhigurah it’s a ghost island 2 places to eat they charge you $110 for boat each way to resort islands it’s a 15min ride 😏 then resort charge you $150 entry each best of doing Maafushi only for local island… that’s the best it’s gonna get for local then go to a resort island if you can afford after that rest of the local islands is waste of money and time.. currently in dhigurah myself wishing I never came here instant regret 😂 💀 off to a private resort sat morning can’t wait get of this island.
Hi, I totally disagree with you post… First of all-resort experience is much better, if you get the right price and if you are passing the middle age! The resort gives you all inclusive with free transportation, greeting, alcoholic beverages/no doubt/ for exclusive price…I just booked the Siyam World resort water villa all inclusive for less than $800 in December!!! So… why to move between unsafe properties, with constant worry of am I well dressed in the beach and where I will have my cocktail, if I have better options???
terribly hot and humid in Maldives now, bad decision. Lots of flies and mosquitoes as well with some biting fish! It gets boring after few days if u have planned a longer trip, nothing new to explore after some time. I would rate Cuba, Bora - Bora and Bali much higher and economical with better weather!
I’m wondering, do the locals pay you back in dollars? I’ve used dollars in the past abroad and was always given change in local money which is an absolute pain in the butt
@@Joelfriend Thank you. When you say there, you mean at the airport? Or in the island? If so, don't we need to book the hotel before? Where to book the hotel for local island then?

Yes this is a very god point, the ferry schedule is something you have to plan and get your head around! Awesome enjoy your time here in next year!
Where can we find ferry schedules?

It's because it's also a biosphere reserve.
There is no accommodation on those islands. Google shows 15 hotels, all resorts 100 - 200 eur a night. In that case Maldives are cheaper.
is it al food halal there?

Is it safe for a single female?
What's wrong with feeding the dolphins to see them? Even if it's not natural, so what?

When you mentioned they rip you off with conversion rate was that paying from rufiyaa to when quoted usd or vice verca?
Yes it’s quoted in USD, and if you pay in rufiyaa they will charge you between 20-25% more

A bit misleading! There are resorts now where they are offering $200 - $500 a day.
Can u stay there if you get a letter of invitation from a friend, to stay with them instead of getting a room?

what makes u say that?
When did you visit? I'm very nervous about the weather
